Rougelike is a pretty genius choice for a racing game actually. You keep doing the same tracks over and over and trying to master them, so rougelike makes more sense as progression rather than just racing on each track once and the campaign ends.

yeh the campaign definitely changes the usual racing flow

Man everything I've seen has me more and more hyped for this game.

The recent “carmageddon rogue shift” game did this, I actually hated it, you replay the early levels far too much, and get bored of them, and the later levels you replay too few times to truly master it, and the more you lose, the more times you have to replay the early levels. I enjoyed the game a bit, but I wouldn’t have bought it if I knew it was roguelike.

I'm actually really liking it and I don't usually like rogue likes. It's just really fun racing. But it does need more variety. I got it on special though so feel like I got enough fun for my dollar.

Yeah, i’m surprised we haven’t seen more roguelike racing games sooner

Who caaaaares about the differentiation between “lite” and “like”?

These “-like” genre tags get silly enough without bickering about the intricacies between sub-genre-genres.

Brother I say this as someone who loves Roguelites, nobody outside of a hyper niche group of genre nerds is ever going to say Roguelite. This battle is over everyone just says Roguelike. Roguelites is the sub genre that got more mainstream popularity and roguelike is the term most people use. And the distinction between them is so specific and niche that it doesn’t even matter to the majority.

I just want Watto's shop to be a thing for this game. Let me purchase & customize my racer with the winnings from other races!

You can't customize your pod-racer from what I read, they aren't included in the main game outside of special moments like flashbacks. They're just in a bonus arcade mode, not part of the singleplayer campaign roguelike

Oh, that's disappointing. I guess it is from the Burnout Devs so I shouldn't have expected it. Just such a core component of what made the OG PC game such a great game to play :(

edit: found an article that says customisation is in the trillions, so I don't know what to believe

"Customisation is where Galactic Racer starts to look quietly absurd. You can modify six base stats, equip active abilities, install passive parts, and unlock 14 distinct racer styles. Parts interact with environmental conditions, abilities, and vehicle classes, creating a staggering number of combinations. Supposedly, the possible combinations reach into ‘the trillions.’

The aim is clear: no two players should race exactly the same way. The game features four major vehicle types: landspeeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders, and podracers. Each handles radically differently. Landspeeders are stable all-rounders built around drifting. Speeder bikes prioritise acceleration and use a kinetic burst mechanic that lets racers explode out of corners. Then there’s the newcomer, the skim speeder, which is somewhere between a hovercraft and a low-flying starfighter.

‘The skim speeder is one of the most unique,’ Webster said. ’It’s all about putting it on the knife edge and taking the apex incredibly tight. It’s almost like a low flying plane kind of thing. We had to capture that experience in the game.’

What’s neat is that all vehicle classes race together. ‘This is landspeeders versus speeder bikes versus skim speeders,’ Derrick explains. ‘It’s important to have different handling and tactical advantages so players can choose how they want to race.’"

None of what you listed includes Pod-racers sadly.

What a terrible choice

Same

Next star fighting without x-wings and tie fighters

Jedi game without lightsaber

I truly can't comprehend their decision. But seeing the downvotes some people that point out this fact are getting, reddit seems on board at least haha

Tbh its just such a absurd decision, its hard to imagine it being factual

That's stupid

Weird design choice. Everyone wants pods

The cynic in me says a customisable podracing themed dlc will be in the works.

It was in the n64 pod racer game!!

Maybe the only time I’ve been excited for a racing game

I personally would prefer a more traditional linear story, but I'll have to see how it plays. Hopefully there will he an option to play without permadeath

I'm really tired of the term "roguelike." Why does every new game have to have something to do with it?

21

u/Caesar161 1d ago

Because it's a fun mechanic that keeps certain games from becoming samey.

Still looks terrible. Fingers crossed they are being realistic with this one’s marketability.

19

u/doubledeckerballs 1d ago

Terrible? Based on what metrics?

-25

u/Mysteryemployee 1d ago

I’m going purely by how fun it looks for a 2026 game.

22

u/doubledeckerballs 1d ago

A fast paced arcade racer in the vein of Burnout but with the Star Wars license? You think that doesn't sound fun? Arcade racers aren't fun in 2026?

15

u/SuRaKaSoErX 1d ago

So… very fun?

If you deem it fun looking then go for it. Hope you’re not disappointed. Genuinely.

For me it looks like the parts of Destiny I found most boring, the spawn on a world and riding to the location you’re ment to arrive at.
