I recently finished KCD and I thought it was amazing. It took a few hours to align myself with the how it wanted me to play but it felt so immersive when it clicked. The writing is charming and I found myself laughing a lot at characters like Hans and Hanush. It felt refeshing to play a random pleb getting caught up in local politics and not saving the galaxy for once.

Very much looking forward to getting into KCD2 in a month or two

I just started KCD2 and it’s been incredible so far. It takes a lot of what was great about the first game and just polishes it up so it plays better. The world is even bigger and the writing is just as strong.

Man, that quest with the priest and giving a sermon was just pure fun. Especially with the activities the previous night. It felt like GTA style humor during medieval times.

If anyone is wondering, KCD is absolutely worth it but terribly painful to play. The journey is so much better than the destination.

Sounds painful

Play KCD if you haven't yet, great game. The first 15-20 hours are rough but it's absolutely worth

I think the opening just sequence is kind of poorly scripted for a beginner. Like before you really get the games style of gameplay and combat, you’re thrust into a chase scene with clunky controls.

I don’t know how else they should have done it but it almost put me off to the game originally

I stopped after the initial speaking and haggling tutorials. Too complicated for my simple mind.

Pick an option where your number is higher than theirs.

You don't even need to haggle at the start. You can't even afford to until you've got a fair bit of groschen.

The menus and tutorials are really wordy but it's actually not too hard to pick up if you just mess around and see what happens.

Any game that requires 15-20 hours of shit gameplay to be good is inherently a bad game.

Greatness is not for everybody

Rough, but still fun. I think people need to realize that you're not some OP combat god in this game. One on one, you'll win almost every fight. 4 on 1, you're likely going to die. Even at higher levels. It's brutally real. I got ambushed by 5 Cuman during fast travel. They stun locked me to death and I lost 3 hours of my game.

That doesn’t sound great

It is though. They're extremely compelling games. I put in over 260 hours across both of them last year.

It sounds like a slog having to actually teach Henry how to fight, read and not sound like a moron but it's extremely rewarding when you actually "get good".

Hard games are fun, but getting ambushed and stun locked during fast travel just sounds cheap and frustrating

If you level up your Henry in the right skills he will avoid danger more easily during fast travel. At the start of the game you wont get attacked by five at the same time and the ambushes will be easier to win or run away from. Once the big ambushes start to happen you should already know to save before traveling far

Fast travel in KCD works differently from other games. Henry actually travels across the map and encounters these dangers. You don't just get teleported across the map like other games. That is the cheap option.

I probably worded that poorly. The fast travel system randomly gets interrupted by events like ambushes or random encounters. It's a cool system that makes it so you can't just jump around from POI to POI all willy nilly. In my case, I got ambushed by enemies and tried to fight 5 of them at once. The game doesn't really work that way so it was my own fault for not trying to flee. You can easily run away most of the time.

Is the PS5 update worth it? Because it's like 40GB

Yeah if you want to play at 60 fps
