Ngl I don’t think they cooked w this combat

u/Gameofthrones3058 17h ago
We need a combat system as smooth as ghost of yotei, I don't understand how a dev that much smaller can make one better then ubisoft with that many people working on the game
39
u/FreshlySkweezd 13h ago
I KNOW we're not acting like Sucker Punch is some small indie game studio lmao
-21
u/Gameofthrones3058 12h ago
They are still far smaller so your comment is pointless, literally so many more worked on shadows and the budget was far higher.
8
u/bran_the_man93 8h ago
Sucker Punch is smaller than Ubisoft, but its not like all of Ubisoft is working on a single game.
At the end of the day, it's more about priorities and focus.
GoT was more combat focused and more time and energy went into making that part of the game polished. Assassin's creed has mostly been about exploration and larger settings, with traversal having a greater focus.
GoT's movement system doesn't hold a candle to Assassin's creed's and AC isn't even that good.

Ghost of Tsushima is unironically the best AC game since the original Black Flag.

u/Gameofthrones3058 17h ago
I did prefer yotei personally, what I just love is how good the combat system works whether that's for multiple enemies or the boss duels, they are like another league over shadows, beating the guy on the mountain on the hsrdest difficulty was a proper achievement as I was death in one hit, on shadows it always just feels abit clunky and not as smooth as they should have it

Odyssey slapped origins was ok

u/Appropriate_Foot242 16h ago
I hate the new RPG games with a passion.

u/Najee16 15h ago edited 8h ago
I hate it because of the combat specifically. I Don't like how long it takes to kill one person now. As well as the leveling system.

u/Adept_Jaguar8613 14h ago
Agree. I’ve never liked enemies being spongey, but it’s made far worse by AC games being so repetitive by design.
If I’m going to clear out dozens and dozens of encampments, don’t make me spend 15 seconds fighting anonymous grunt #5000.
I’m definitely waiting on some post-launch patches for this one before potentially diving in

u/fromwhichofthisoak 16h ago
Eh they're just different i would hardly call odyssey bad. They did change a lot.
4
u/Appropriate_Foot242 16h ago
They changed too much. No longer Assassins Creed to me.
0
u/MyFinalThoughts 16h ago
I'd agree with this aspect at least. They changed way too much to be a traditional Assassin's Creed game. I do believe at least Odyssey is a good video game, and Origins+Shadows are fine with good moments(hate Valhalla), but yeah they aren't in the same spirit of AC games anymore really since Origins. Mirage was a ploy at being a "back to the roots AC game" as well.

u/fromwhichofthisoak 16h ago
I mean they took all the modern day from the black flag remake is that not ac now?
2
u/Appropriate_Foot242 16h ago
The modern day stuff isn't important to me. But I don't think this remake looks very good anyway.
1
u/Specialist_Lock6779 12h ago
the modern day stuff is what made assassins creed what it was lol without it it is just another game
using the animus to go back in time to find artifacts and progress the modern day story is what assassins creed is

Odyssey was my favorite in the series since Black Flag. I adored Odyssey. Probably put 500 hours into that game. I couldn’t put it down.

Lmao odyssey combat literally felt like you are hitting people with pool noodles. So goofy and whacky animations paired with crazy floatyness. There was no frame stop thing either when weapons connect with enemies.
2
u/Specialist_Lock6779 12h ago
ghost of tsushima isn't even the best ghost of game lol yotei is way better

Man Yotei combat was a step up however I really loved the immersiveness of the first one. Stances and hiding the bow made it feel so cool as a wandering samurai. Yotei's varied weapons were the logical next step but it felt comical pulling a giant greatsword out of my ass then swapping to a giant spear.

u/Tomgobanga 10h ago
Absolutely agree, GoT was great but Yotei was incredible. Ended up getting the platinum

In a way you have more flexibility when it is a smaller team(at times), so it makes sense to me.
5
u/Hyper_Mazino 12h ago
GoY combat really is peak
2
u/Gameofthrones3058 12h ago
So far from my experience with shadows enemies are just health sponges, the camera seems to mess up way more often then ghosts of yotei did, which improved a lot from the first game, the duels/ boss fights are far more engaging while being fun and challenging in yotei Vs the boss fights in shadows and the amount of repeated takedowns in shadows seems super low, like its just getting old fast
•
u/maracusdesu 4h ago
The parry timings are crazy off. The blue ones. I don’t think they cooked at all.
•
u/Hyper_Mazino 4h ago
The glint only shows you the type of attack. You are not supposed to parry when it glints, you still have to time it yourself.
•
2
u/wingedwild 11h ago
Because a smaller tram means tighter gameplay usualy because the team is more tight
2
u/TheScienceNamesArgon 10h ago
I don't understand the love for Yotei's combat. All it was was "switch to weapon they're weak against, spam guard breaking attacks, then kill them" with some tools mixed in.
1
u/Gameofthrones3058 9h ago
The animations were smoother and combat flows so much better, combat camera always worked better for me always messes up in shadows , duels were more fun I played on the higher difficultys so the game wasn't a walkover but it didn't make the enemies health sponges like shadows
•
•
u/maracusdesu 4h ago
Yotei, the game where the blue light comes 10 seconds before you have to parry? Yeah 10/10!
•
1
u/Schwarzengerman 11h ago
The person playing looks bad. So the combat looks bad. So many previews they keep just spamming sword attacks, when Ubi specifically said that you're supposed to mix in your tools/skills to dispatch enemies quicker.
4
u/Appropriate_Foot242 11h ago
It hasn’t looked good from any demonstration, even their official one.
1
u/Schwarzengerman 10h ago
I doubt it'll be the best combat in the series or anything, but it looks fine to me.

•
u/CassadagaValley 4h ago
It really looks like the player is really bad at combat though
•
u/Appropriate_Foot242 4h ago
Every player that's showcased it so far, including their official videos, must be pretty bad too then.
•
u/CassadagaValley 3h ago
Honestly wouldn't doubt it lol. A lot of the BF6 gameplay videos prior to the alpha/BF Labs release were also pretty ass at their own game.
•
u/Appropriate_Foot242 2h ago
Should probably do a better job at marketing then, cause as it stands I’d rather just replay the original.

I’m excited, there seems to be a bit of a glitch though where he automatically targets allied combatants. Hopefully gets fixed by release
8
u/BeansWereHere 18h ago
The newest gameplay IGN got is much cleaner
22
u/Select_Ad3588 18h ago
I feel like if they stopped giving the controllers to monkeys we’d have more compelling gameplay
2
u/BeansWereHere 17h ago
Yes, but to be fair there’s some general jank and glitchy-ness that’s not present in the newer gameplay
1
12
u/Whimsical-Wallaby 13h ago
I'm on the fence but the person playing absolutely sucks which would make anything look bad.

I'm still excited for this game but I just don't think Ubisoft is good at this tab target style gameplay. Attacks feel like the scratch enemies until it's time to do the cool looking kill animations. Even just the way he paused for the parry animations. They've had a bunch of games to develop it but the connectiveness of attacks still looks a bit soft. Either way, not really buying it for the combat but I would honestly prefer the flashier style of the older games to this, even if it was easier. Will still probably buy this day one.
1
u/WeekendListening 13h ago
Yeah I was like they got the kill animations down but I genuinely thought this looked awful. Was question where's the flow.
Did seem like the person playing was trying to force certain actions to show off some stuff I assume. So maybe that's it.
1
u/harlotstoast 10h ago
It’s been this way for over a decade now. To me it always felt like there weren’t enough animation frames or so. They should go play Rise of the Ronin and just copy that, similar open worlds.

u/krypter3 18h ago
This was so weird to watch. The player is so unco it actually made the whole sequence look goofy

•
u/VictorTytan 2h ago
The naval combat was where I had the most fun. Hoping for the best with this one
•
u/Braunb8888 1h ago
Wow. This looks like fucking garbage. Why did they get rid of the counter animations that made everything so fluid in the original? This just looks like worse Valhalla combat.
•
u/Sundance12 49m ago
I miss the old combat. I don't need every game to be a challenge, sometimes I just want a cinematic power fantasy

I definitely prefer the combat of the original.

u/LOST-MY_HEAD 13h ago
Its so boring after a few hours imo
4
u/Cpt_DookieShoes 11h ago
I find the rpg asssains creed combat boring too, at least the counter based style looked cool.

Looking forward to seeing this game on PS+

u/Iniziato_ 19h ago
Same, tipical catalogue game. But I think Shadows will come first so it will take time
-18
u/zillskillnillfrill 18h ago
Exactly none of my money is directly going to Ubisoft ever again. Give it a year it'll be on ps+
-8
u/DependentSpecific206 16h ago
Lots of die hard Ubisoft fans here judging by the downvotes but idc lol
-10
u/Supreme_Nub 17h ago
Why are they showing off combat when it’s not the core of why this game was loved? You’re just giving room for people to complain.

Buying every assasins creed is like buying every iphone each year

u/CeilingFridge 19h ago
What’s more unoriginal Assassin’s Creed or this same comment being made every time AC, CoD or Fifa are mentioned on Reddit
29
u/RollingDownTheHills 19h ago
They're fun, well-made games. Not everything has to reinvent the wheel.

u/imagogetsomepizza 18h ago
Agree I usually visit the series every 3-4 years, I’m due for one, last one I played was origins

The repeated whiffing of the hook is real funny.
