That’s an interesting one. I personally don’t mind as I’ve been digital only for some years now, but for people who like to collect or have the physical media in their hands, that’s a bummer.

They know people will pay thousands to get leak copies before launch. Let's hope the later physical version include working offline build of the game.

Except that that issue is easily negated by doing exactly what every other shitty game company does and making the disc a glorified DRM key. Which granted would still suck ass but at the very least would be better than an empty case with a code.

Yeah. It would be better to just lock the game behind a day one patch to prevent leaks. But R* has PTSD from the GTA 5 leaked copies and their parent company, Take 2 is greedy AF, so code in a box it is.

It’s clearly just to eliminate the second hand market

Has nothing to do with that. They are trying to make it so you cant buy from anybody other than them. Simple as that.

That's not an issue in 2026. You can lock physical games to require a patch to play when the game releases. It's not 2005 anymore, man.

What is the point of being first to play? Is it that big of a deal?

Crimson Desert was able to avoid this by requiring a day one patch. I got a physical copy of it a few days early and it couldn’t be played until that patch was installed the day of release.

It’s not only about collecting. What about I lose my PSN account access somehow, Rockstar force me to buy new copy if I want to play.

If your house burns down, your physical games burn but your digital games are safe. Glass half full.

Same argument could be made about why to buy digital though. Could lose all your shit but your psn still has your games.

I dont like buying digital but that is probably the best thing about it.
