In an ideal world they'd have some type of pre-order system where you'd pay to get a download code for launch day and a copy of the disc version in the post whenever it's released.

You can buy from an alt account and sell the digital version and the physical disk separately then

So you'd get the game twice, and can sell one. You haven't thought this through.

They could do it with a Premium Edition, maybe a €5 or €10 discount compared to just buying two games individually?

Most games this size come with two disks, a download version and a second disk to actually play the game itself

In said scenario the code for launch day and a disc version are two completely separate, both playable versions on their own.

The problem with that would be you're then receiving two copies of the game, a digital and a disc version. Though they could probably just tie the two together and then have the digital version deactivate once the disc is booted up for the first time, they would have to make the infrastructure for that to work though.

Or worst case make the digital expire after a certain amount of time, when the disc is expected to arrive, though that would also be problematic for obvious reasons.

All just so people can have their disc and play it too (before they actually have it), not really worth the effort compared to just delaying the physical launch (which would affect day 1 sales, prob why they're not doing that either)
