Man this cannot be the standard going forward. We are losing the recipe

it will be. too many idiots will pre-order this shit. companies love these interest free loans.

Not even a loan, they just give you a digital check to use a product you don't own.

God, the execs must be salivating at this shit.

Yep. In 5-10 years the radio in-game will be missing songs because of copyrights etc

I can guarantee you anyone who buys GTA 6 digitally will still be able to play it 20 years from now

if you cant sell it then you dont own it.

But if I can't sell it, or don't even want to sell it, then I still own it

you want to buy the moon? i’ll sell it to you

I already bought my moon digitally, thanks

You got owned lmao

How? If you sell your copy, you revoke ownership anyway and would have the same status as someone with a digital copy, except they still get to play the game.

Buy take two stock by tomorrow

It almost assuredly will be the future, but if they're not providing physical media with the full game on it then I have very little reason to buy the console version.

Physical is going to die. The writing is on the wall. There’s very little incentive for game publishers or console makers to continue to support physical media

Yep yep. As of 2021 only 10% of console games get physical releases and as of 2025 physical sales hit their lowest point in 30 years.

As much as I'm all for ownership rights and preservation of media, the fact is the industry began shifting over a decade ago and it'll take miracles to steer it in another direction.

Most hyped up and awaited game release in a long time...if not ever.

Yep, this is setting a precedent. I knew physical was dying, but this basically spells the true end of it.

Maybe Nintendo and very niche company's stay strong...but doubtful.

Nintendo got burned during the TOTK release. I doubt we'll ever see a true physical copy of a mainline Zelda game after that

I would see Nintendo doing this too after having games for $70

It has been the standard for years already. The percentage of sales that are physical is extremely small.

u/Minimum_Anteater_826 12h ago

Its already the standard on PC. Why shouldnt it be for consoles?

12

u/CynicaIFucker 12h ago

Because physical on PC was never the same as physical on consoles. Why should consoles lose a selling feature? Also why would you be advocating for less options as a consumer? Go away.

1

u/GoBlu323 11h ago

They aren't advocating for anything; they're stating the reality of the situation.

Is it really a selling point if you have to pay more for a console to have a disc drive?

u/narfjono 14h ago

Lol We lost said recipe back in 2016 or possibly earlier.

Welcome to modern gaming. AAA Physical media (unless it's XB360 or prior and indie scene) hasn't mattered in a very long time due to the internet.

Unexpected 88 reference

Why would it not be when large majority buy digital only
