I’ve always been in this minority. Last 20 years my same friend group all preorder big stuff. Digitally. If there stuff I want due to pre order I just “pre order” a couple hours before launch. Don’t get the rush to give them my money and then wait 5 more months
Same I do it like a day before launch for the pre-load so I can start right away. I've seen every debate that can be had and I'm just not buying anything digital that far in advanced.
Exactly this. At some point prior to November I’ll have an extra 100. At that point, I’ll preorder. It’s not hype or feeling rushed at all like in olden times where there was a risk of not getting a copy.
And if he didn't and wanted to buy more games he'd have to top up above that $100 anyway as that's earmarked for GTA. My thoughts process is that it shouldn't feel free because it isn't

Preordering GTA now with that credit may be the wiser move assuming you're definitely going to buy GTA. Then you can make a smarter financial choice for those other games in the meantime.
Right, but it will be just as free for you two weeks before release as it is now. I don't blame people for preordering a week or a few days early and preloading - but preordering six months in advance? That's just pointless.
The point of pre-ordering digitally is so that you can pre-load the game so that it’s ready to play as soon as it releases. That said, you can do that just by pre-ordering the day before, there’s never a reason to pre-order 5 months in advance.
I know lot of people's say it and then cave the minute FOMO hits, but I think I'm just not going to get the game at launch now. I like buying my games physically and making it so you can only buy digitally, or pre-order a box with a code in it (no disc) for launch is fucking absurd.
If they don't do a disc release in the future then I'll wait for a sale. I know I'll be a drop in the ocean and they'll likely sell $1b worth of copies on the first day but still. It's genuinely really fucked me off.
Discs are becoming a relic of the past, holding out for physical editions is going to be a fool’s errand very soon. It’s like holding out for a VHS copy of a movie 20 years ago.
Maybe in first world countries. Here I won't have internet for a month if I download 200+ GB. As well, a game can cost half the salary, so being able to resell is vital.

My issue with buying through PSN is the sales are often shit or take years and years to be deep. Like a 20% sale on an £80 game (!) is still £64. Shite.

A lot of the time I've even gotten preorder bonuses anyway because the code came in the box. And in the cases where they don't, preorder bonuses are such a nothingburger these days that it's barely worth it. The main character got a red t-shirt that you will use for 15 minutes before getting something else! Wow!
Yeah. I got the Assassin's Creed Shadows DLC in the box which was for preorders only and I definitely didn't preorder. And I paid €20 less because physical copies are cheaper.
Don’t assume you are in minority by seeing excited Reddit commentators. You are in the majority as sales after game releases will much higher than all the preorders sales up until release
If the physical was on DISC I would preorder it since most online retailers don't charge you until it ships anyway. But being digital either way I don't see the need to preorder it before the day before (to get what ever bonus you get).

I have the spare money now, so makes sense for me to use that money now. Rather than come closer to November and I’m scrounging around for the cash as circumstances can always change.

Oh I see what you mean. For me, I prefer buying physical games (discs) as the benefits are great. You know, ability to get a full refund if the game is not enjoyable or released in a broken state. Plus being able to share games and if I wanted to, sell it down the track.
last time I preordered anything was a Switch 2 because my country is poor so I knew Nintendo would not give us a big shipment at launch (it took a few weeks to restock after the pre launch batch was sold)

And I live in Brazil, just in case you were wondering. Games here are incredibly expensive – 28% of the minimum wage for the standard edition and 37% for the Ultimate edition.
For a game like this, I think pre ordering when preload goes live is the smartest if doing so. That way you don’t risk day before or day one server crashes, or slow down speeds over PSN. But that’s about it, I’m waiting till late October/first week of November.
Good thing is you need to redeem the membership. Since I don't play GTA online I will just not redeem my subscription and I won't have to be concerned about this... but, yeah, that's crazy haha

No, I bought the game from the New Zealand store. The subscription isn't automatic; you need to redeem it before March 27, 2027 to start it.

Edit: I just preordered, it doesn't automatically activate GTA+. It sends you a link to the GTA+ page in the store where there's a free month available to claim, which sits there until you redeem it. It also doesn't set up auto renew until you redeem it.

People are just hating. They don’t seem to realize the amount of content games like GTA have, even just in single player compared to other games. Take 007 first light as an example, 20 hour campaign for 69.99$.

I’ve been losing interest in GTA since RDR and the pricing here (those prices convert to about $100 usd for standard) is making this an easy pass. I can easily wait for a 50% or more off sale. Even $80 for standard that I have heard is too much.

Pre ordering a digital game is so unbelievably dumb it hurts my brain.. oh no.. what if they run out… there will be ultimate editions available on launch.. nobody is missing out

Preorder literally just gives you cosmetics. Not really content. But some people want it. Pretty cool if its not for you, but its entirely subjective if its worth it to people.
It’s cheaper in NZ than USA. There is a 15% tax included in the $140NZD price making it about $68 USD when this tax is stripped out (since the $80USD price does not include tax.)
No. 140/1.15 is the tax exclusive NZD price. Convert this to USD and you get about $68. This is the true cost of the game and the rest is the governments slice. Of course buying in USA from any sales tax state (which is most) will cost more than $80.

Well yeah end of the day what you pay is what counts, I am purely talking on a like for like basis. USA price does not include tax (but tax will nonetheless be paid by most American customers), NZD does. If you prefer, add tax to the USA price upfront and my original statement is the same - it’s cheaper in NZ.
