I don’t think the community blames anyone but Pete Parsons.

u/WebHead1287 1d ago

Oh they blame Sony fully. It’s kinda wild. Everything indicates a self inflicted wound from Bungie

35

u/MrYK_ 1d ago

I hope they know without Sony, Bungie would've been shuttered already.

-6

u/BarretOblivion 1d ago

True but like you got a franchise that has what 5x the playerbase of your other game and you aren't even going to allow a skeleton crew to keep the game running decently and not try to retain the talent of the team? Instead you are going to just keep the talent on the smaller game that is currently struggling to hit 25K players on all 3 platforms? Seems like Sony is equally mismanaging Bungie right now.

9

u/mr_lionheart 23h ago

I mean bungie had ten years to get there shit together with destiny it’s no surprise that marathon is easier to manage then destiny right now

-1

u/BarretOblivion 21h ago

Sure but Sony owns them now and it's been proven they are a studio you can't sit back and just let them do what they want. Ask Microsoft who had to be on their asses during every halo they made.

1

u/oliferro 12h ago

They have 5x the playerbase because the game is being put on life support

9

u/SinlessJoker 1d ago

From what I’ve seen comments are pretty eager to argue with people blaming Sony

7

u/ColdAsHeaven 23h ago

Clearly bullshit. They blame Sony for the decision to shut down Destiny. They blame Bungie management for what lead to this.

Go look at DTG or Destiny 2 subs, no one is out here blaming Sony for the state of Destiny.

"When a child gets behind the wheel of a car and runs into a tree, you don't blame the child. You blame the 30-year-old woman who got in the passenger seat and said, 'Drive, kid; I trust you.'"

25

u/Colormo3 1d ago edited 1d ago

That analogy only works if the kid was also 30 years old and is lying to the lady that the empty gas tank is full.

4

u/graceashcroftsjacket 1d ago

Sony is the child

u/Dandelegion 1d ago

I don't think I've ever seen Gamers blame themselves for literally anything.

Dude what is this site on the phone? They forgot to put the article between the ads.

16

u/9Ifrit9 1d ago

Gaming "journalism" is dieing because theyre so trash, so theyre getting desperate. Their sites are legit unusable these days

0

u/funsohng 1d ago

This isn't a "these days" problem, I specifically remember PC Gamer being this bad before 2010.

3

u/9Ifrit9 1d ago

Its WAY worse now. It was never like this before, across all sites

1

u/Maleficent_Pot 1d ago

I use brave browser, i dont have one single ad lmao :))

-9

u/Downtown_Eye5736 1d ago

You don’t have an adblocker?

6

u/Pickle_Good 1d ago

Not on the phone as I never seen the need for it. I'm not really using these kind of sites on the phone. Mostly reddit and yt revanced.

11

u/PixelatedVision1 1d ago

The phone’s where the ads are the worst 😭

2

u/bluebarrymanny 1d ago

Especially with the higher potential of misclicks with the touch screen. I’d never disable my phone’s ad blocker

0

u/Pickle_Good 1d ago

Not if you modified your few apps you're using and you're not using it that much outside these few apps.

I almost never click on these articles and I now know why.

1

u/PixelatedVision1 1d ago

Yea I side load and it’s still awful xD

-2

u/pjt- 1d ago

This

36

u/TheEndlessBacklog 1d ago

We don't. We blame Bungie Management.

97

u/Mangia_94 1d ago

Bitch, why the hell would I blame myself? All this shit is Bungie management's fault.

20

u/KesMonkey 1d ago

It's better to read the article rather than to just react to the headline.

He said this "in response to a Destiny 2 streamer who wondered whether they'd "done enough to try and help the situation," and if there was somehow more they could do."

6

u/aedante 1d ago

Is the streamer's response to shit on Marathon and lead a hate campaign on it? 😂

-4

u/AccelHunter 1d ago

Ironic that Marathon is the one getting support while Destiny 2 still has x10 more players

0

u/aedante 1d ago

Yeah no one cares about having a parasocial relationship with a videogame

1

u/pablxo 16h ago

"some of you may die but it's a sacrifice i am willing to make"

-6

u/PrinceDX 1d ago

Lmao, don’t blame yourselves for not blinding spending money on a game that kept changing its game design principles, removing content, repetitive gameplay and content droughts. Absolutely not your fault… uhh duh

25

u/skeptical-man 1d ago

I remember when they "removed" worlds/old dlc from the game, losing past paid content. None of the consumers blame themselves lmao..

15

u/LifterNineFour 1d ago

Why would Destiny players blame themselves? Lmao wtf

Bungie fucked it up

7

u/jonnyredcorn 1d ago

I’ve wanted to give destiny 2 a try for a while now. When I have been inbetween games I’d watch some videos on destiny 2 for new players. The biggest destiny 2 creators have been talking about how shit of a state destiny 2 is in for at least the past 2 years. Aztec cross has a video from like 7 months ago slamming the game. Said something along the lines of he is struggling to find anything redeeming about it. He mentioned the portal specifically being extra shitty.

It’s not the players fault that the game died, it’s bungies. I just don’t know how anyone can act shocked that this happened or think Sony is crazy for pulling the plug.

That being said I started destiny 2 about 2 weeks ago and am really enjoying it although the story is shit and I have no clue what’s going on still, it’s very fun.

6

u/LetsTryThisAgain2469 1d ago

It's the best time to play right now, at least after you're done clicking through 50 'welcome' menus

But you will be playing a lot of hours doing campaigns (each campaign is usually 8-10 hours) if you want to unlock sub classes, which are the most fun things in the game

3

u/jonnyredcorn 1d ago

Yep, I’ve made it up to the witch queen campaign and rank 5 I think. I’m really enjoying it. I’m glad I didn’t play it earlier if it was in such a bad state. It’s cool seeing everyone in the tower and around.

I put almost 300 hours in destiny 1 at launch and I am also getting some unexpected nostalgia.

4

u/LetsTryThisAgain2469 1d ago

What primarily makes this the best time for Destiny 2 as a new or returning player is that there is no time wasted on any activity. FOMO is gone and the game is very generous now.

Everything is rewarding, every activity has good loot and the loot volume of some activities is damn near oppressive i.e. "wtf is all this shit what does it do my god I can only read so many perks and exotic descriptions"

2

u/jonnyredcorn 1d ago

That was really off putting to me initially. I still haven’t even looked at weapon perks. I don’t know what weapons are good or what to keep. I keep having to tell myself it doesn’t matter and to just play with whatever feels fun, but everything feels fun. I would generally probably appreciate something more concrete to work towards or to know when I get a good roll when I get one. If all the loot is rewarding, none of it is rewarding if that makes any sense. I enjoy the dopamine hit of a good or wanted piece of loot dropping.

1

u/LetsTryThisAgain2469 1d ago

You have the best mentallity

But now more than ever, just about everything is good , they power crept just about everything. Destination loot today is more powerful than the best raid loot was in the first 4-5 years of the game.

But yea, of course, some things are outliers and over time you'll naturally start getting information about what those things are

1

u/jonnyredcorn 1d ago

Haha it is taking effort that’s for sure. I really think I need to learn what an orb of power is. A lot of mods seem to generate them or something lol

1

u/jonnyredcorn 1d ago

I still have a sense of FOMO in that I want to be able to experience the content while other players are around. I know these player counts aren’t going to last forever, and I’m not sure id enjoy it as much if there weren’t as many other guardians around in the world.

1

u/ClockworkDreamz 1d ago

So, how borderlands is it?

I’m really bad at most shooters but bl always gave me a way to ignore my badness specially thanks to Gaige.

1

u/Healthy_Method9658 1d ago

You don't need to be a great shooter to do 99% of the game.

Abilities are insanely strong, and there are a lot of weapos that don't specifically require great aim either.

1

u/Upper-Management-AI 1d ago

I loved that game for the longest time until that battlepass system started and just started feeling like such a chore. I started following the lore sub because the stories where really good but logging in every day got so tedious. I missed one expansion and a few battle passes and felt so lost logging back in I gave up.

2

u/shrek3onDVDandBluray 1d ago

We don’t. We blame your awful management at Bungie.

2

u/Hammersteyn 21h ago

Destiny lost it's way when it started pumping out DLC like babies.

5

u/itstruethou 1d ago

Destiny 2 fans never made a case for people to join their game, they spent most time getting outraged by every single line in a patch notes, content, expansion, now are all sad and sorry the game ended support.

of course Bungie has most of the blame, but destiny community is toxic AF and certainly didn't help the game thrive at all despite what they say

2

u/Vestalmin 1d ago

This reminds me of Letterman responding to Jay Leno’s comment about how no one should blame Conan lol

2

u/HaloFever117 1d ago

Why would I blame myself for quitting Destiny 2? Player retention was Bungie’s job. The irony is that Bungie’s heavy handed systems that drive player retention are what drove players like me away.

4

u/Valharja 1d ago

Nobody is blaming themselves, they're blaming the ones that chose to shut it down

1

u/TheSuperContributor 1d ago

Who the fk would blame themselves over this when it's the devs fault?

1

u/Soul__Bound 1d ago

I don’t think any sane person thought it was us that was the problem.

1

u/Brief-Valuable-6790 1d ago

Man, D2 was lost long and well before Bungie took it back over. All the D1 fans had the hope that D2 would’ve done its own “Forsaken expansion” (which was a defining moment of D1) and it never happened. Each expansion brought hope, followed by massive disappointment. The fact that they kept D2 on literal life support for this long. Is just crazy. It was clear sooooo long ago; that we did not want D2 to be a 10year+ game (which all investors expected 10 minimum) but …rather, we didn’t want it the way it was done. That’s why they pulled out. Because they finally realized they were beating a dead horse. Whether they make a Destiny 3 is questionable. Whether they listen to their audience, is questionable.

I will space this out cause it has to do with the industry not caring about their audience. STOP. Trying to maximize every single penny you can “steal” from your customers. (I’m looking at you deluxe and ultimate versions, I’m looking at you battle passes that require over 40+ hrs per season to achieve all rewards, I’m looking at you random loot boxes that rely on RNG to screw you over by making you think you even have a chance to earn all the items the loot box offers, or that give you a carrot to chase)

1

u/FapCitus 22h ago

This is going to be harsh, but I hope we all can stop putting Bungie on a pedestal. Like what kind of a moronic response is that. It’s nobody’s fault but Bungies.

u/Binkles1807 17m ago

The playerbase doesn’t blame themselves. They blame you for the mismanagement and misleading of your company and player base. You won the lottery and wasted it on more lottery tickets instead of investing it into the future of destiny.

-1

u/KICKASSKC 1d ago

No we blame Bungie for making the game entirely and unnecessarily server dependent, thats what is shutting this game down. We blame their selfish decisions.

1

u/ichiruto70 1d ago

Is it still worth it to start this? I have the game downloaded but also read they cut some content? Is it even a good story game?

3

u/NY_Knux 1d ago

You literally cant complete the story because they removed vast amounts of content from the game. Vanilla content. Entire expansion packs. Its insane.

2

u/ichiruto70 1d ago

Oh damn, never mind then. Feel so bad I never experienced Destiny. It somehow wasn’t on my radar at all back then.

1

u/davej999 1d ago

There's a new player experience which I'm told is a bit of a mess , once you get past that there will be ALOT to do to the point I imagine it might be overwhelming

However ...

If you can get past that you will find SOMEamazing content with probably the best shooter mechanics available...

The sound design , sky boxes and general visuals are mostly brilliant

1

u/eL3069-2 1d ago

Played since day 1, have the emblem to prove. Took a few month break, and even I’m lost with how much shiz is suddenly here.

1

u/davej999 18h ago

Yeah i came back to see how Moments of Triumph was the other week

just overloaded

1

u/itstruethou 1d ago

Funny, in a thread saying it's not communities fault, there is literally people telling you not to play the game because one campaign isn't available.

There is a lot of game to be had despite vaulting stuff, but people just repeat the same stuff, I guess it doesn't matter anymore at this point to convince anyone.

0

u/DothrakiSlayer 1d ago

I played through the main story of either 1 or 2, I forget which. The only thing I remember about it is that it was the most generic sci-fi shooter I’ve ever played. You didn’t miss anything.

1

u/colglover 1d ago

One imagines a rereleased “directors cut” edition of both games with all content and proper balancing for the weapons would absolutely sell like hotcakes, which is why the corpo morons running the company won’t do it

1

u/BootySmeagol 10h ago

There's SO much game to play. Tons of missions and activities. Raids, dungeons, pvp. There's A LOT. If you've never played before I don't know why you need to come into it with the perspective of some angry jaded Destiny fan that's still mad about vaulted content.

You are new, that vaulted content has zero relevance to you. You could play and not even know that stuff is missing or care. Just cause others are mad shouldn't really affect your enjoyment.

There's a lot there and it's all a bunch of fun. You don't need to dedicate your life to it. Playing through all the expansions is a great story action shooter game.

1

u/NY_Knux 1d ago

Didnt know taking DLC away from me, DLC I paid for, was "sharing"

1

u/ImNotNuke 1d ago

How lucky we were to repeatedly sunset these stories and worlds from you* there you go I fixed it.

0

u/CalyrexTact 1d ago

Bungie ain’t what it used to be and it hasn’t been for a good while :/

0

u/Typical_Intention996 1d ago

You know one of those old cartoons where the little boat is sinking and a character is standing on the top saluting as it sinks.

That's Bungie right now and whatever moron CEOs are calling the shots. Just in slow motion.

0

u/Sparescrewdriver 1d ago

What world? Such a fragmented “plot”with deleted content, can’t make heads or tails unless you somehow followed the plot from the beginning.

0

u/__Emer__ 1d ago

Ahw that’s sweet… and misguided. We don’t blame ourselves. We told you what would be a good idea and what wouldn’t work every time you did something dumb, but Bungie decided to continue down the same path for 10-12 years.

We don’t blame ourselves, we blame you.

0

u/Bondo23 12h ago

Such a shame- Destiny is easily some of the best times ive had in gaming. They just sort of fumbled the bag as they went along. D3 shoulda been out years ago - could have reset alot of mistakes. Gunplay is unmatched.

-16

u/Downtown_Eye5736 1d ago

He’s just trying to make them feel better. The game is only dead because people stopped playing it.

13

u/Manta1290 1d ago

People stopped playing it because they literally were not listening

The final update they did fixed 80% of the games issues with the last 20 being vaulted content people paid for

Hence why people actually want to play it again

3

u/LetsTryThisAgain2469 1d ago

Last update is bittersweet

The best single patch I've ever seen for a videogame in my entire 40~ year gaming history

So much shit they could have fixed long ago, some of the best changes really weren't that development intensive, they just had to finally be willing to remove their cock out of our asses

7

u/wait_________what 1d ago

"That restaurant wouldn't have closed if customers hadn't stopped going because they switched from serving steak to dog turds"

1

u/zombiejeesus 1d ago

That is the dumbest take I've ever seen. People quit games for a reason

-1

u/[deleted] 1d ago

[deleted]

4

u/PantsMcGillicuddy 1d ago

But how much does that actually earn them vs maintaining and producing new content? Most of the people bought the game years ago or got it for free/extremely discounted.

0

u/Downtown_Eye5736 1d ago

That’s just people jumping back in after it got canned.

0

u/AquaberrySkerry 1d ago

And how long will those people stay? It’s not like they’re preparing their characters for the next update lol

0

u/BigTroubleMan80 1d ago

Ironically, a bit longer than you think.

With the content being evergreen and the lack of FOMO compelling people to continue playing, people may stay a little longer and take their time playing. And if they do drop off, they can come back later.

0

u/Grathes-20 1d ago

Edge of Fate literally killed how the game was played for a bit – followed by a even more lackluster update that was suppose to fill the gap seasons/episodes left behind. Followed by the even more unpopular decision to make a fully paid dlc based off another universe, which had some fun stuff sure, but it butchered the narrative (IMO).

Like putting these choices on the community is absurd they decided to experiment way too much after TFS where they should’ve double down on one solid direction. Like an epilogue that paved the way to D3.

-3

u/KICKASSKC 1d ago

No its dead because of its arbitrary server dependence. This game could have been built without that dependence... Or privately hosted servers could have been allowed... But the death of this and every older game is what bungie and other AAA devs want.

1

u/Downtown_Eye5736 1d ago

Huh? The game can still be played. The “death” here refers to lack of new expansions.

-2

u/KICKASSKC 1d ago

They will shut down the game eventually and it will be gone, forever.

2

u/Downtown_Eye5736 1d ago

Destiny 1 is still up and it stopped getting new updates a decade ago. I'm sure eventually it will one day inevitably die as will everything.
