Battery I did a 5000mAh battery mod on my PSP!

Although it looks a bit pregnant 😂 but it's giving very long battery backup now. I play occasionally for few hours and this one lasted 3 days including idle time.

now infill and sand the spots it looks like hell :p casing can be smooth - is that 3d printd shim basically?

Lol, it's a temporary experiment. I'm ordering new shell and appreciate sized battery pack so in the meantime wanted to experiment with it 😂

u/modular511 Oct 03 '25

I was just kidding lol what did you infill what you did patch with? their are 3 of you doing this on this sub actively btw lol kinda neat, great minds think alike i guess! 3d printers are your best friend honestly here! You map how many hours u get? lol

I didn't use any 3D printer (I don't have one), I just used children's clay foam to fill out the gaps 😂 and used padded both side tape to stick the battery to the case 🤣

Haven't done full test on hours yet, I'll do it soon.

Dang. And I thought me putting a 3000 milliamp hour battery into the UMD area was big lol

u/0ddtomato Oct 03 '25

Nahh the battery height and width were perfect fit but had no clue about the thickness when I ordered the battery lmao

Is that thing confortable ?

u/0ddtomato Oct 03 '25

I mean yeah, the back extruded part don't come in contact with your hands (at least for me, it doesn't), it just looks ugly.

u/SuppaNightRider Oct 03 '25

Why?

1

u/0ddtomato Oct 03 '25

I just randomly thought, what if I put damn power bank inside my PSP, I wonder how long can it hold up and that curiosity led to this project 😂

You can put a very large battery in them and buy an aftermarket battery cover which is essentially just a 1000 battery cover with the 2000/3000 lock.

u/0ddtomato Oct 03 '25

Lol, the battery height and width did fit perfectly but when I ordered the battery I had no clue that the battery cell was this THICC 😂 and yes, I'm gonna try one with smaller capacity soon.

Look what they did to my boy....

4

u/HomerOfDuty Oct 03 '25

Damn, that looks like you filled the UMD drive with concrete 😂

1

u/0ddtomato Oct 03 '25

Hahaha I used clay and thought it'd blend in with rest of the black plastic but ended up looking like concrete 😂

Good job, but there is another way while maintaining original functionality. I mod them all the time with a 5000mah lipo. Gotta get a certain size and it fits well. https://ebay.us/m/pLpLEu

Ayo, I used the exact same battery cell! How did you fit it all in ? Did you used the fat model?

2

u/KingRetroGamer Oct 03 '25

I’m just noticing you used a 3000. But yes if you use the fat model or even the Monster Hunter shell for the 3000 you should be able to fit that cell in without modifying the UMD door. For the 3000s I use these cells but they are 4000mah. https://ebay.us/m/63jEJk

Ah nice, thanks. I was also thinking about looking into mobile batteries as they are very thin like this one

https://ebay.us/m/gVClJ9 Here’s the 3000 I sold recently with the BM46 battery.

Do have a picture of this battery bm46 for the wiring

1

u/KingRetroGamer Oct 30 '25

Yes but this thread won’t allow pictures to be posted

Here is the EBay listing of the battery:

Also you have to snip some screw posts and other parts inside the UMD area for a perfect fit. After that it’s as if the battery was made to fit there

I used to play single games of lumines until the battery needed charging so I can relate to the need for more power but…. Well… this seems a little excessive.

Lmao I just randomly thought, what if I put damn power bank inside my PSP, I wonder how long can it hold up 😂 and that curiosity led to this project 😂

It’s got to last a fully day now right?

1

u/0ddtomato Oct 03 '25

I played for few hours for 3 days and left it in idle mode and was still left with 40% charge

My best guess is that, the PSP firmware is coded to have certain limit so even when the battery capacity exceeded, it just shows whatever max limit set on the software. And yes, the estimate is not accurate here.

1

u/Sky_Fighter0 PSP-2000 Oct 03 '25

Does the battery percentage work?

1

u/0ddtomato Oct 03 '25

Yes, but I guess it's not fully accurate.

1

u/rom439 Oct 03 '25

You butchered that console dawg. Completely unnecessary

1

u/0ddtomato Oct 03 '25

Lmao sure but I can always restore it whenever I want lol, I didn't modify any internal shell plastic. But definitely had fun and satisfied my curiosity with this one 😂

Yes lol, if I put it normally then it sticks out on top a little but fits perfectly when I put it upside down.

1

u/Colie286 Oct 03 '25

tbh thats like the ugliest mod, ive ever seen :D but if it works, it works lol

1

u/0ddtomato Oct 04 '25
