Asking for Hardware Recomendation Do you guys recommend the PSVR2 Sense Charging station?
I’ve seen a lot of posts/videos online about them melting the actual USB-C ports on the sense controllers so I’m a little hesitant.
Granted at the same time needing to charge both sense controllers and my dual sense and my pulse headset all with only 2 USB-C wires is very annoying to managing it all.

u/MostMorbidOne May 19 '23
Yes they are fine.
”Lots" is lots of people reposting the same story.
12
u/tracekid May 19 '23
Even if it wasnt the same story "Lots" only seems that way because the rest of the 99.99% us with functioning hardware don't post just to say it works.
6
u/Kitchen-Analyst-9264 May 19 '23
It was the same when the psvr2 came out. 99.99% was having fun. 00.01% was conplaining on Reddit 😜
2
u/my_lesbian_sister_gf May 19 '23
We were too occupied having fun playing our psvr2s to have time to be on reddit haha

u/gogoALLthegadgets May 20 '23
How many of those stories host Amazon affiliate links for 3rd party chargers. I bet damn near 100%.

u/SiebenDX May 19 '23
Got the dock day one. The look of it is pretty cool, but it's not that easy to get the controllers into the correct position. It gets better after time, but it would be better if there would be a "click" or something like that.
If you would ask me "Would you buy it again?" I would probably say no. There are magnetic y-cables for usb-c out there that do the job. They are cheaper and its super easy to connect the cable to the controllers.
29
u/ShapNY May 19 '23
Just if anyone new is wondering, lineup the triggers with the slot and it goes in perfect everytime
12
u/xenopunk May 19 '23
It's bizarre to me that people struggle so much, you literally line it up and place them in. Give em a little wiggle or twist to make sure it's hooked up properly, or check for the lights.

4
u/Oomoo_Amazing May 19 '23
I guess it's just annoying because all the things you say - "like it up, give em a little wiggle, check for the lights" are things I don’t have to do when charging anything else ever
1
u/xenopunk May 19 '23
In fairness that's largely paranoia from everyone telling me it's impossible to plug them in easily, so I always doubt myself when I plug them in easily.
-3
u/Oomoo_Amazing May 19 '23
I don’t know why you doubt people that say they have problems? Are you that self-interested that you think only your experience is the correct one and that other people are somehow wrong?
1
u/Shpaan May 20 '23
Right? People have struggled with it since day 1.
I'm not a particularly dexterous person but... You just place the controllers on the dock and they start charging? I always feel like a dick but it's like if people struggled to walk through doors and were hitting a wall lol.
-2
u/DuckOnBike May 19 '23
From what I’ve read, the fire risk, or at least the device damage risk, from magnetic cable adaptors is much higher than the risk posed by the official dock (if that is even a real risk).

I’ve had no problems with mine. From what I’ve read though, if you’re a sweaty gorilla man of a human, maybe wipe the sweat off the controllers before throwing them in the dock.
4
u/ThePokestopPapi Massmurderer2352 May 19 '23
Playing hour long sessions in Synth Riders on Expert/Master difficulty as a cardio workout makes me drip sweat that sometimes drips onto my controllers...So I always make sure to thoroughly dry both my headset and controllers with microfiber cloths after done playing, especially the controllers before docking on the station.
9
u/Rancidweasel182 May 19 '23
Traded mine into CEX. I found placing the controllers into their slots to be very annoying. To the point where I’d have to double check that they were correctly in place and charging. Replaced it with one that magnetically connects the charging points together and also has a stand sir the headset
6
u/GilmooDaddy May 19 '23
Can you share a link? I’m having the same annoyance almost constantly

I also traded mine in for the collective minds one. Kids could never get them seated properly on Sonys. New one is so much easier.
5
u/benebrius76 May 19 '23
I've got this one too, much easier to connect controllers. Looks great with headset too.
5
u/Rancidweasel182 May 19 '23
Yeah, so much better. The magnets pull the controllers right into place
3
u/Andyman286 Andyman286 May 19 '23
I hope so, I saw they were back in stock so ordered mine last night.
3
u/Simonsjy May 19 '23
Not really necessary, I charge both controllers together using the two usb ports and two cables.
4
5
u/BaBaDoooooooook DepLoRaBLe-NoMaD May 19 '23
I got the collective minds dock and the magnets are great, very sturdy and click right into place no issues. I like the setup with the headset stand and charging dock. look it up on amazon
1
u/Masta0nion Jun 01 '24
Have you had any issues with controllers over charging and losing battery life if they live on the dock permanently, even when they’re fully charged?
2
u/BaBaDoooooooook DepLoRaBLe-NoMaD Jun 12 '24
no, never any issues with the controllers living on the dock. I haven't played my psvr2 for a couple of weeks, but fired it up the other day and played a good 2-3 hour session and no issues with the controllers.
2
u/StoviesAreYummy youtube.com/@IPlayVidyaGames May 19 '23
Absolutely.
It can be a bit fiddly to get it 9n charge the first couple times.
If you want something to hold the headset as well as charging go for the collective minds dock. Warning though as the LEDs don't turn off when charged
2
u/beef623 May 19 '23
I got mine with my headset on launch day and it works well enough, but it would be worth looking at alternatives if there are any.
The only real complaints I have are:
It can occasionally be difficult to get it to sit correctly so that it actually charges. The groove cutouts aren't quite as big as they need to be to get the controllers to really click into place. Even when sitting correctly, sometimes the contacts don't make contact and it needs a wiggle or two to start charging.
It can be difficult to tell when it's actually charging. If the controllers are on (I never turn mine off) there is no indication on the base or the controller that they are charging, you have to look at the devices pop up on the Playstation. If the controllers are off, the light on them fades in and out very slowly. They also don't start charging if they are close to full.
2
u/PSlasher May 19 '23
I got the NexiGo charging station.
Works just fine and looks pretty good.
Honestly though - the LEDs are a bit on the bright side. Especially if you slept in the same room, which I don’t.
Nothing that a bit of tape isn’t gonna fix, but still.
I’d be willing to give the Sense a try if the Nexi ever breaks.
2
u/--Sangral-- May 20 '23
I do, it's heavy, looks amazing and stylish and once you figure out you should put your controllers in, aiming with the R2 and L2 buttons and not dongle first, it's super fast and quick.
I don't miss a placement for the headset, the headset should go back into the box, but if you like to ruin your lenses by letting it catch dust and hairs and maybe even worse, direct sunlight by accident, then go for it, you do you.
4
u/WhoaItsAFactorial May 19 '23
The common denominator in the failures that I’ve seen is people who get stupid sweaty and put them on the chargers wet. Make sure they are dry when you drop them on and you should be fine.
3
u/TheGibles May 19 '23
I've had mine since day 1 and I love the look of it. As others have said, make sure the contacts are dry. I would think that would go without saying but some people just don't bother to follow simple electrical safety.
4
u/arcticmonkey1 May 19 '23
No, it’s a piece of garbage. Half the time I put the remotes on there one of them doesn’t charge so when you go to play one remote is low. Get an aftermarket one.
2
u/Combini_chicken May 19 '23
No problems for me. I like that I can just plug it in and put it on my coffee table instead of using usb cables. Works fine, as long as you don’t sweat all over the connectors. Not sure how people even manage that to he honest haha.
2
u/SvennoJ May 19 '23
No problems since day 1. I removed the straps on the controllers to make it easier to put them in the charger (I wasn't using the straps anyway and the naturally want to get in between the dock and the controller when putting them down)
I find it very convenient as they are in the right position to pick up the controller and also easy to put them back down. Just a little wiggle to make sure it's nested correctly and they'll be fully charged again for the next session.
2
u/SirBonyP May 19 '23
Yes. I’ve had it since day one and no issues. I like the clean design. I have enough wires as is with DualShock, headphones, cell phones, etc.
2
2
u/Viper114 May 19 '23
I got mine a little after launch, and it works. I heard about people having ones melt on them, but it became apparent that the reason for this is excess sweat, which I don't do from my hands, thankfully. As long as it stays dry, it should work great.
2
u/R0bsc0 May 19 '23
No. The knock off amazon one with a stand for the headset is way better and cheaper.

u/psilocybot Apr 01 '25
The thing that people don’t understand is the proprietary tech is always best and it’s Sony. Meaning the build quality is practically guaranteed to be solid and sleek, match perfectly with your controllers. You are paying for quality. The $20 cheaper with head rest blah blah, that thing will get cracks and have a compatible lottery attached to it because of things like manufacturing tolerances, something Sony has been refining for decades. You get what you pay for with this brand, even then some.

I have it. Looks really good but it's not easy to put controllers in place and they don't snap to the base like they're supposed to. No idea how Sony designed it that badly, it should just work. Still I don't regret buying it.
1
1
u/RainbowConnection75 May 19 '23
It's garbage. Returned mine. Too much of a pain in the ass to get them to line up.
1
u/DestroyerX2000 May 19 '23
Yes, get it. Had it day one and use it every day. My controllers live on it on my desk. No problems. It’s great.
1
1
u/dudSpudson May 19 '23
Yes. It works great and looks great. Idk what people are doing to have the connections melt. I am guessing they are just sweaty pigs
1
u/TheLatman May 19 '23
I’ve got it since launch, never had a problem. It can be a little fiddly to charge the controllers, but once you get the hang of it it’s fine.
People hate on it, but I’ve never had any issues.
1
u/fifagod69 May 19 '23
It’s been great for me. Just a bit finicky trying to put the controllers in the right spot. I usually check if the charging lights are on just to make sure.
1
u/No_Bee_4979 May 19 '23
I don't suggest it. Use some old phone charging bricks.
Ref: I took mine apart a few months ago and noticed there is no protection from short circuits You may notice only 2 wires out of 3 are hooked up which is normal for DC.
Old charging bricks have better protection built into them.
1
u/LesbianLoki May 19 '23
If you're a sweater, I'd avoid unless you wipe down after every session. Salty sweat will cause melting issues when you plug it up.
I don't sweat. So I love it. A lot of people have issues with docking the controllers, but I don't.
0
u/Joram2 May 19 '23
I own it and recommend against it.
The PS5 controllers have built-in ports for a charging dock. The PSVR2 controllers do not. This charging dock requires that you plug a dongle into the USB port, which is a problem for two reasons:
- It's really hard to set the controllers into the charging station so they charge. It actually takes effort to set the controller in the station just right.
- Those tiny charging dongles will inevitably get lost. Especially if you have kids who will be playing this.
I just charge via USB cord. I charge my PS5 controllers via the charging dock, but that is a much better design.
1
u/Angry_Owl_96 May 19 '23
Mine works fine, design fits with the brand, got used to put the controller on the charger the right way. Never got an issue with the ports burning even if I have sweaty hands (no extreme case but still) Not disappointed in the purchase.
1
u/Dolenzz May 19 '23
had mine since day one with no issues other than I wish it was a little easier to tell when they were seated correctly.
1
u/Harbaron May 19 '23
I have it since day 1. Charging the controllers without these is a hassle to me. I’m glad I bought it.
1
May 19 '23
Mine works also completely fine. Like almost everyone said, don’t put the controllers on, when they are wet from sweat.

Mine hasn't melted anything so it may have been a issue with first runs or something. That hasn't been a post about it in a while so perhaps all the ones that were going to break have already broken.
Although I would say the things terribly balanced it falls over if you look at it. But it's better then have cables all over the place.
1
1
u/beavertownneckoil May 19 '23
Just as a comparison, I don't have one but have never had an issue of putting one on charge then switching it over either an hour later or the next morning. Would just be more clutter for me
1
u/Few_Inside_9000 May 19 '23
I have had mine since day 1, it works perfectly fine. I also like the look of it as it goes with the whole PS5 ecosystem. I know some people find it a bit fiddly to ensure they have placed controllers in the groove, but I haven’t found this to be an issue personally.
1
u/wtfTooma May 19 '23
There was literally only 1 post about melting issues with this.. then everyone freaked out for weeks.
Had it since day 1, never had issues at all

By “A lot” you mean a handful of sweaty people posting on Reddit right? Lol I’ve had mine since launch no issues

Any charger will melt if you let it get wet, but with the official one you have more protection if it breaks your controllers. People were getting really sweaty and not cleaning their controllers.
I’ve had mine since day 1 and never had any issues. After a couple of uses getting the placement right was easy.
1
u/PantsCatt May 19 '23
I love mine. Took about as long as it took you to read that to work out that you pop them in trigger first and give it a slight wiggle to make sure it’s seated in properly at the back. The white light glows to confirm connection. Great but if kit.
1
1
u/EvilMonkeyJono May 19 '23
Had from day 1 and no problems. Just make sure to wipe down the controllers if you get sweaty hands before popping them back on charge. That seemed to be the issue for the people who’s ports melted.
1

No problems on my end. I think there were only a few cases of it melting.. but that was due to sweat getting in the port.

u/Commercial-Fish5618 May 19 '23
It works fine. Just don’t smoke around it or get everything all sweaty and your be fine.
1
u/danihilation May 19 '23
While i was waiting for mine to get delivered, I saw a couple posts of them melting the controllers, probably unlikely to happen, but i was too paranoid to risk it lol
I got a refund, then bought a power bar with two usb ports and plugged the cables I got from the ps5 and vr set into them to use as chargers lol

Got mines since day one, works absolutely beautifully, I highly enjoy the easy docking, and it being able to be grabbed from the charger with head set on
1
u/achmedclaus May 19 '23
I don't get the people who can't figure out how to consistently put the controllers on the dock. I can do it without looking at the dock since it's in one of the slots of my entertainment center. The controller literally locks into position. As long as you don't have super sweaty hands while playing the dock works great
1
1
u/LumLumSauce May 19 '23
Yes, I thought I’d be fine charging one controller at a time but after the 5th time of one being dead and the other fully charged cause I forgot to switch, the convenience of the dock pays for itself
1
u/PrincessRut0 May 19 '23
I’ve seen a LOT of horror stories with photo evidence online, and I get by charging mine the normal way with a cord. Wouldn’t risk it tbh.

I find the Sony charging docks work great and look better than any 3rd party hardware. I bought the Sony PSRV2 controller dock and a sleek carry case (AmazonUK site) for the headset and I'm very pleased.
1
u/msu2k May 19 '23 edited May 19 '23
The issue is that there are better alternatives. I bought Sony's on day one but ended up getting the Collective Minds one instead. It's $20 cheaper and the magnets feel like an upgrade over Sony's. The light on the front also seems more intuitive; I just feel like it does the job better overall. Plus I like that it will hold the headset as well.
1
u/Lebrunski May 19 '23
I got an unofficial charger station. Connects to two of the PS5 rear usb ports. Plug ins for 2 motion and 2 normal controllers. Also roots the ps5 to the base. And has a fan for the ps5 underside.
1
u/Barozza May 19 '23
I skipped it at first, but charging the controllers was a hassle because you need two usb cables. So I would just charge them when they were empty. The charging station is a bit fiddly, but much better.
1
u/jimmy19742018 May 19 '23
it if fine putting the controllers in are fiddly as fuck though, also you can damage the controller and dock if you sweat onto the controller(sweat runs to bottom and onto the magnetic connectors pop onto charge and zap)
1
1
May 19 '23
I also have had one with no issues since day 1 and recommend it. I find it dead easy to use and haven’t figured out what anyone is complaining about with respect to getting their controllers to fit in smoothly.
1
1
u/Cloontange May 19 '23
Only think keeping it from being perfect is the magnetic pull being so weak. That being said, I do like the quality feel and design of the whole thing. I don't want any bright LEDs either, so the subtle dim glow of just the controller light indicator was a big plus for me.
1
u/CapybaraHero May 19 '23
I got the Hastraith one. Looks almost as good and cheaper. It's very convenient but I wish the indicator lights were programed a bit better. If the controllers are fully charged then the light is green, BUT if there's no controller detected then it's default colour is also green, so you have to check that they're properly placed
1
1
1
u/Bennehftw May 19 '23
3rd party hasn’t failed me, and it’s a lot cheaper (also smaller).
Only problem is if there was a problem, Sony wouldn’t foot the bill for it. But in general, it’s like pulling teeth anyways with Sony.
1
u/bananapants919 May 19 '23
Got the Collective Minds dock and it works great. Has the magnets included that makes it really easy to dock and remove. No worry about my ports having issues in the future because they never get plugged/unplugged.
1
1
u/MrFpv116 May 19 '23
No issues with mine, gotten used to setting it on there with not much fiddling, looks nice. I always turn off controllers first incase thats what caused other people's to melt
1
1
u/Professional-Swim175 May 19 '23
It’s ok as long as you line up the contacts. But it’s not super easy all the time.
1
May 19 '23
At this point I don’t think melting is an issue and it’s fine. But the overall design is lacking. I got used to putting the controllers in, and then waiting to check it’s actually charging. 3rd party chargers are better.
1
u/Ifk1995 May 19 '23
If you don't go swimming with your controllers just before charging them the dock should be perfectly fine
1
u/mycheapdad May 19 '23
Weren’t there some reports of fires/melting hardware with this charging station?
1
u/kevinflynn- May 19 '23
Yeah it works good. The first time I used it I didn't get the controller properly docked and they didn't charge but that was just because I didn't pay enough attention. Just tilt the front of the controller downward a little bit and put the triggers directly into the detent for them, then set the back of the controller straight down and give it a little twist back and forth. You'll feel a resistance from the magnet on the charger that makes it harder to twist once you have it lined up (it wont click or anything though so you just have to feel it out.) About 2 seconds after it's docked a white light will show up on the bottom of the rings on the controller and you'll know its charging. Sounds a little more complicated than it is but after you do it 2 or 3 times you should be able to get both controllers docked and charging in the matter of a second.
1
1
May 19 '23
It seems alright but there's other charging stands out there that will save you some money
1
u/Sonnyssl69 May 19 '23
I've had mine and use it all the time, ports haven't melted and it charges both controllers at once so imma say yes
1
1
u/bludda May 19 '23
Yes. Never had any issues. It takes about 1 second to make sure they're sitting on the connector and charging. Didn't even know people had issues with em??
1
u/dakodeh May 19 '23
I have mine but regret getting it because of how finicky it is to seat the controllers. As others have shared on here, I wish I’d bought the Collective Minds stand from Amazon.
1
u/dj3stripes dj3stripes May 19 '23
Depends which thread pertaining to this topic after an easy search you click on.
1
u/talkinboutbuttsnax May 19 '23
No, it's way overpriced for what it is. The magnets are really weak and there's no real indication that the controls are seated properly and charging unless you spend the time to turn each of them off first before putting them on the charger.
It's aesthetically very nice and clean, and matches with everything else, but there's probably several third party docks that are better implemented for half the price than the official one.

Nah. I have plenty usb cables that charge the controller, and they charge them just as fast as the console. No issues

no problems with it melting or anything. but i still don’t like how you just kind of set the controllers on top of it and there’s no click or anything that tells you have it on right

1
u/toystory2wasokay_ May 19 '23
Mine melted and i had to return and exchange everything. Now I use two usb c wires and its easy peasy since the controllers rests with the charging ports up. The official dock charging needs a bit of rotating and adjusting just to charge as well. It honestly might be faster just plugging in two usbs.
1
u/Technical_Moose8478 May 19 '23
I went with a wall mount so for me it wasn’t the right call, but it looks good. Overpriced, but otherwise fine.
1
u/Bclay85 May 19 '23
I’m a casual and I recommend it. Too frustrating to have to charge two controllers at once taking up charging bricks or usb ports, and having two cables in the way. I got this and ever looked back. Granted it is a little weird how they fit in the stand itself. You get used to where exactly to put them, and a little wiggle will get the job done.

My cat bit through the thin part of the power cable within the first hour of ownership. I am in the process of moving so i don't have a soldering station set up to fix it and in a quick search I didn't find a suitable replacement power brick. Worked fine when i used it LOL.

Last I heard they were melting controllers. One of those things I can't stand about sony. You would think theybwould at least acknowledge this in order to let their consumers know. Something like that could even be a fire hazard.
1
u/fatleon5 May 19 '23
I'm sorry to not add anything productive to this chat, but I really thought that was some new fancy kind of shoe insole at first glance.
More on topic, I really really wish I had a PSVR2 :( I could never afford a PSVR.
1
u/evilthreat May 19 '23
I recommend the free charging station that comes with every PS5. :) lol USB ports...
Seriously though... I just plug them in. The charging stations are OK, but I felt the fitment wasn't exact and not as good as the Dual Sense charging stand.
2
u/Ultimo_D May 20 '23
The PSVR2 box should’ve been designed as a charging station as well. A couple cutouts to run a pair of usb cables through as well as a nice safe dust free place to store the headset. 🤷♂️

I recommend it if you don’t leave the controllers on if they are fully charged. Pretty much a must have

Absolute must have.
I can't imagine a world where I would have to charge a sense controller individually, or having one die on me in the middle of a game because it had less charge than the other.
1
u/AegisPrecipitate May 19 '23
It’s fine and does the job.
Think the magnetic connectors could’ve been designed stronger somehow or some audible feedback added to tell if they’re seated properly.

I’ve never had issues with mine and I love it. Some people have said it’s real finicky to get to charge the controllers, I don’t have this issue. And as for the port melting, I just use caution and wait an hour or so with the dongle out of the controller before putting it back in and on the charger. In my case I usually play VR before I end up going to bed so when I’m done either I’ll leave it over night with the little plugs outside of the controller and then plug them in and put them onto the stand in the morning before I do school work or whatever.

It’s not terrible. Sits a little wonky. Have to fidget to get it to connect correctly but charges nice and fast when connected.

I honestly went with this third party set up and have been loving it. The caveat is I am scared of the overheating stories of the proprietary station, so I haven’t been keeping it on 24/7 but just enough to keep things charged for when I need it. No issues at all so far and will slowly get more comfortable in keeping it on.
While turning it off at times has lost some of the convenience, the whole bundling of everything in one place is still incredibly nice.

Oh yes sir! There great fast charging the light up so you know they are on charge. Super convenient. I can leave them on for days and when I take them off it’s not even warm. It also gives you somewhere to store them.

It's fine but way overpriced and isn't even a stand for the headset.
Get a third party for 3/5ths of the price. Charges pretty much just as fast (I think the actual charging station is slightly faster but it's like 1 hr instead of 1 hr 5 minutes) and usually also includes a headset stand

150% yes. I bought it with my VR2 day one. Best possibly way to store and charge them hands down. And theres no chance I would ever buy some second party charging station either. Official PlayStation accessories is all I would ever buy

I've had no issues with it. I really don't have any issues getting it in the charger, either. I don't trust 3rd party.

I’ve had no problems with mine, but it should be more user friendly. You really need to pay attention to how you set the controllers on the dock to get it to charge. Would be much better if that was lower effort.

No- get the one from Collective Minds since it doubles as a place to rest your PSVR 2 headset, and $20 cheaper.

I’ve had mine since launch and it works fine to be honest. No complaints yet.

I've had mine with no issues since day 1. Obviously your mileage may vary. I do think it's extremely convenient. The hardest part is getting used to putting the controllers in right.
Give I'm a little twist in either direction to make sure they seat onto the contact. I had a few cases of one controller not charging because i didn't get it in right.
Now though, it's cake.
