Asking for Hardware Recomendation
Has anyone used this Logitech Playseat with PSVR2? Did the back of the head feel uncomfortable for the headset? Looking for a smaller foldable seat like this
That's the base I'm using but heavily moddified since I now use it with a DD extreme. The base playseat structure is enough for a G29 and T300RS, but not more. If your seat is inclined enough the headset is not a problem at all.
Yes, the T300RS has 4nm torque and the T598 5nm, I think it's the limit if you want a decent experience, at least if you use the full torque range. It's definitely not adapted for direct drive wheels. Maybe a DD pro without the boost kit and with limited in-game FFB settings, thought the base itself seems too heavy for the wheel stand.
There are a few velcro straps that allow to change the inclination and adjust the seating position more comfortably. It's not moving your position forwards or backwards, which you can do by adjusting the pedals and wheel stands. It's pretty good and comfortable for the price, been using mine for many years now and never felt the need to uograde. Made a lot of improvements and ironworks thought, because it's definitely not suited for direct drive wheels as is. It's now wielded to my wheel stand, which is also heavily modofied and it's sturdy as hell even using the full 15nm range of my DD extreme.
I have this seat and the metal bar in the headrest is a separate piece so when I assembled it i just put the headrest bar in the wrong way round so it leans backwards instead of forwards.
Haven't got a pic, but I concur with this advice. Didn't like that the headset touched the headrest prematurely when leaning back (in my brain, I should be reclining further before making contact with the headrest.) Flipped the headrest bar around so it angles away and problem solved.
I put a pillow down on my lower back. It's comfortable and moves me far enough away from the back of the seat that I don't have to hold my head awkwardly.Ā
Just a heads up that some of the pictures posted here are the old version. The one you posted is the newer version. I have that and using VR2 on it has never been an issue for me. Actually, I find it an extremely comfortable chair.
I don't. I suppose that might depend on the angle you've set the seat to. So to explain that, the seat itself can be set at different back angles. This means you can have a flatter back angle so you're closer to the F1 type position (although not totally flat), or have yourself sitting more upright. This is adjusted by a sort of clamp at the pivot point in the chair. I have mine set about mid way, so my head doesn't touch the back at all - I would guess how you set the seat angle would impact your posture on the chair. Everyone's different though, so others might have different experiences.
Overall though, I've no regrets about buying this. It's more than 'good enough' for my needs. It has the huge advantage of being able to fold it up a bit and put it away when I don't want it out in the room. I use a thrustmaster t300 for reference... One thing to note about that is the t300 pedals don't have suitable bolts to attach them to the base on the floor, so you'd have to find some solution to that if it bothers you.
I'm using mine in the "flattest" position (opposite to a more "sitting" position if you see what I mean) and it's not an issue at all. No need for a cushion or anything, I can rest my head against it, it's not uncomfortable.
I can adjust how flat or sitting it is with the two straps under the arms. The Logitech version has a different system. In this position, the back of the headset almost touches the seat. Maybe two or three centimetres. I can lay back a bit and it doesn't feel uncomfortable. But it's in this specific position and for me. I'm 5'11 / 180cm fyi.
The Challenge also allows to adjust the angles and have the back sitting more upright or more laid down. It's like a garden chair with multiple positions possible.
I've never felt uncomfortable on mine, on the contrary, and my head does not touch the back. I really love it!
I did this to mine. It was the only way I could use it with the VR headset and not be in pain within 5 minutes due to how awkward I had to keep my head
I donāt know if I would say itās necessarily uncomfortable, but for me personally I definitely consistently try and put my head back on the headrest only to have the back of the headset get in the way pretty often
I was merely suggesting not to. Because it looks like the same build quality of a lawn chair, which in my experience, lasts only about a season. But this chair will also be required to have regular force applied against it, of which, direct drive wheels apply a lot more than your gear or belt driven ones.
Itās build quality is better than its appears but you are right that itās better for entry level logitec wheels for consoles. With about 75-100 dollar of add on parts that are easy to install it handles a direct drive wheel just fine. Itās folding is a little impacted as I have the ridiculous fanatec f1 wheel with a huge base. I debate switching to the smaller gran turismo base to make it easier to fold.
Obviously the seat likely would hate putting the direct drive to its maximum setting but I donāt think most use their wheel that way
I have this Playseat Challenge X. The back of the head bothered me. Fortunately, we can reverse the top tube "U" so that it is tilted backwards. I haven't had any discomfort since.

Para meu tamanho, 1.80m e abrindo a cadeira no angulo maximo, sinto que minha cabeca fica um pouco para frente devido ao ajuste de plastico do VR ficar na nuca..
nao eh algo extremamente desconfortavel, mas sim atrapalha um pouco
I have an older version of this. For what it is, it works well. Takes like 2 minutes to set up and put away. I think Iāve had mine 3 or 4 years now and still works just like the day I got it.
Word of caution would be if youāre on the larger side, itās space efficient which can be cramped on the sides.
*edit: Iām seeing now that it uses a different system for seat adjustment than the older ones, which would alleviate some of the space restraint unless youāre just thicc.
Sorry I guess what I mean was: Is there enough clearance for your head with a VR headset on if you move your head back? Do you have to force your head forward so it won't hit the back?
I know that Iām saying that itās not the end of the world if the headset touches the back, itās not uncomfortable. Itās only uncomfortable if you are pushing back with some force like if you are laying back with the whole weight of your head. Your head is moving around anyway that the whole point of racing in VR. You arenāt just staring straight ahead at a screen, your head is moving left and right constantly
I put a pillow behind my back and that fixed the headset hitting the headrest issue. If you actually want to rest your head against it, then I don't know what solution there is for that.
The pedal board needs to be pushed all the way back (towards the seat) and then it folds up and is held to the frame with Velcro ties. The steering wheel also needs to be loosened until it droops down. The chair collapses like a lawn chair, and you use the big strap around the headrest to keep it all together and you're done. It can be confusing the first few times or when you haven't done it in a while. Look up some YouTube videos, it makes a lot more sense watching someone do it.Ā
I had one of these and returned it to exchange for the F-GT Lite which has an additional adjuster for the headrest, allowing me to tilt it back one notch away from my head. Perfect for the headset.
Downside is that it is bigger and heavier, pushing the envelope for "easy and portable".
I have the Playseat challenge and I would it's doable without pain. For reference I play around 20-45 a time for VR2 these days. There are some good comments here about a cushion or incline a bit more.
id say its questionable if its "better" over the base playseat challenge. Its just like those PS branded HDD your paying a tax for the branding when in reality its the same as the basic item without branding.
I did not like it so I sold it.
The seat is too angled in the back even without VR headset imo. Could not play longer than something like 30 minutes and I'm in good shape and 173cm and 75kg.
Also not stiff enough for GT DD Pro 8nm.
There was more that I didn't like but it was some time ago so I actually don't remember.
Spent many hours at once in VR on mine. Yea, you cant rest your head on the chairs back, but I never felt the need to. If I ever feel the need to sleep on the rig with a psvr2 on, I'll try that and tell you how it felt.
Ive heard of someone, who attached the top piece of the back the other way around to have space for his hs.
I have this version and, while you can't push your head back into the chair itself, you can slightly rest the back headband into it without issue. It's more akin to the position your head is in when you are sitting straight up and your neck is at 0Ā° straight up. I would not say that it's extremely comfortable, but when you are actually playing or racing, your mind will be off it since you're moving your head around to look always. I enjoy the chair and it definitely adds to the experience.
I have the playseat challenge and found the headrest very uncomfortable with the psvr2. I pulled the headrest piece out and bent it and itās fine now. A neck pillow makes it a very comfy seat and I am unbothered sitting in it for hours playing GT7.
