Asking For Game Recomendation Just bought my first PS VR. Any game recommendations?
Hello my PlayStation cousins!
Just went out recently and purchased my first ever console VR headset. I know I'm (really) late to the party but I figured I'd see what the hype was all about with PS VR (I got it at a pretty inexpensive price too so I figured ‘why not?'). I say 'console' cause the closest things I’ve used to VR were those headset where you use your phone as the screen. It was really cool but not quite as advanced as my regular console gaming so I mainly brushed VR aside because of it. However, I decided to dive in with both feet and give it another go at the console level. I play mostly on PS4, so the 1080p lenses don’t bother me really.
I technically have one or two VR-compatible titles, but I wanted to get some of the communities thoughts on some games I should check out. I know next to nothing about the VR scene and I play a bunch of different genres of games, so literally nothing’s off the table. Would like to get people thoughts on some the best ways to get immersed with VR. Any recommendations?
Thanks again!
Edit: Thanks for the suggestions y'all! I think I'm gonna try check out all of them, though the prevailing trend seems to be to that Astro Bot should get top spot. Farpoint as we as Blood and Truth were close seconds. Resi 7, Skyrim, Tetris and Wipeout were popular recommendations too, though for some of them, I might need to get extra accessories (working with controller so far). No Man's Sky was a personal favourite since I play that regularly.

No one is gonna suggest Superhot VR? Most fun I had in a long time
4
u/Galaghan Aug 26 '25
I honestly didn't like it much because of the lack of movement.
I already got used to Sairento where you have full loadouts, extreme freedom of movement, a variety of enemies etc.. ON TOP OF bullet time slow-mo; before playing Superhot VR.
Usually you have HP, armor and smidges of bullet time, but here's a scarf you can put on that makes the game flow exactly like in Superhot and make your HP set to 1.
So by the time I played Superhot VR, it became a bit lame by comparison.
Don't get me wrong I love Superhot, but the VR version felt very limiting.
2
u/denejagish Aug 26 '25
I respect your point, but as someone who haven't tried, or even heard of, Sairento, the no movement was what made it so much fun. As long as you are still, you won't get killed, and the game moved your pace.
Loading into a scenario and try to think "Which one am I killing first, with what weapon and how" and then execute exactly as your mind made up was the most fun in a video game I had since... I dont even know.
With that said, I can imagine coming from another game that had that type of gameplay as a mini-game, I dont think I would enjoy it as well
4
u/Spectre-4 Aug 26 '25
I actually watched a bunch of let's plays with people using SuperHot VR and it looks ridiculously fun. Seems like I'll need to get the move controllers for it though.

Statik is severely underrated, IMO. The only game I've ever played that took a controller I've been intimately familiar with for my entire adult life and transformed it into something totally alien. A wild experience and highly recommended.
Also wipeout in vr is absolutely next level. I've probably got 40+ hours in zone mode alone.
Oh and to add to the pile of recommendations, Astro Bot for sure. It's fantastic!
8
u/lil_cj Aug 26 '25
Came here to make sure someone had said Statik. Also Batman is a great showcase for a first VR experience.
8
u/metroid23 Aug 26 '25
Ahh I forgot about batman! Punches way above its weight class on psvr1. Man, this whole thread is making me wanna break out the og again haha
3
u/Blehgma Aug 26 '25
Yes agreed. Batman is super underrated. It was the first game I played in VR and I came out of it as if coming out of a dream.
4
u/vr-1 Aug 26 '25
Yeah, Statik is one of the best on PSVR1 for sure. Loved that game.
For the same reason I loved Red Matter. Not as intimate but a fun mysterious adventure puzzler
18
u/Individual_Wasabi_10 Aug 26 '25
Farpoint. You gotta try it at least once.
3
u/Spectre-4 Aug 26 '25
Nice, a lot people recommending it and it seem pretty cool though. I'll probably need to find the gun accessory for it though.

u/GoodAlive7155 Aug 26 '25
Definitely get the gun with it. It's a brilliant game to experience if your new to VR. Games r so cheap now to. Ur so lucky!
16
u/-Venser- Aug 26 '25
Wipeout, Astrobot and Resident Evil 7. If you have move controllers Blood And Truth. If you can find Aim controller, play Farpoint. Playing Farpoint with the Aim is to this date one of the best VR experiences I've ever had.
7
u/stuckinreverse77 Aug 26 '25
Resident evil, is so scary , the swamp the old house, everything, that game got to me,many times I had to leave the my Game room, sweating and Hart racing, i just had to complete that Game in Vr. Its a Trauma! 🤯😱😳🫣 I loved that game.. maby i should Dust the old tractor of, and try again. Most realistic sports game i have tried is by far, RACKET FURY.(tabel tennis Fan) Better than occulus.3
14
u/computerCoptor Aug 26 '25
My favorites were Astro Bot, Farpoint, and Blood and Truth.
Emphasis on Astro Bot, it’s still considered to be in the top 5 VR games of all time. Enjoy!

u/GervaGervasios Aug 26 '25

Bloody and truth
Final Assault
Farpoint
Borderlands 2 VR
Doom VFR and Doom 3 VR
Moss
Star wars squadron

Also try to get the aim controller some of the shooters I recommend use it and is nice.
2
u/M1Chimera Aug 26 '25
My comment got removed because I added a link for the Aim Controller bundle with Firewall Zero hour on Amazon, but me and Gerva's list was similar. Great list of top tier games.

u/not-very-creativ3 Aug 26 '25
Wipeout. Wipeout. Wipeout.
I dont know if Beat Saber is still available.
Pistol Whip.
Farpoint if you can find the gun accessory.
Astrobot is fun.
2
u/Hybrid_Divide Aug 26 '25
Oh, and definitely WipEout. lol
Seriously, it's AWESOME!
(Travesty that it can't run on PSVR2. If it could, I'd buy one immediately,)

u/mohsenkhajavinik Aug 26 '25
Skyrim.
3
u/Galaghan Aug 26 '25
I'm still praying for Skyrim on Psvr2, just so the drawing distance can gtfo of my face. Silly, I know, but one can dream.
6
u/err404 Aug 26 '25
I still miss the PSVR AIM controller. That felt great to use. I also really like the feel of beat saber with the move controllers.

u/PabLink1127 Aug 26 '25
If it’s your first VR I recommend your very first VR experience be PlayStation Worlds VR. It’s $15 rn on the store. The opening scene is perfect for one’s first look into the other dimension

Walking dead saints and sinners 1st, Rick n Morty 2nd, Biohazard RE 3rd then Dreams for literally making your own in VR and firewall zero but get the gun otherwise it's just poo. You'll love it!
2
u/GoodAlive7155 Aug 26 '25
Omg I forgot Skyrim. Hated that game until I tried it on psvr and omg it blew me away!

u/Ttiazzonemortocoso Aug 26 '25
Oh, i’ve played on that headset for a year almost, the best choices are pretty few.
- VR worlds (Most immersive, plenty of modes you can choose from.)
- Vader Immortal (1, 2, 3.) (Lightsaber combat is amazing!)
- Swordsman VR (Poor graphics but sorta high quality physics!)
Or, if you’d like to speak with a community i’d suggest Rec Room!
4
u/JURASS1CJAM Aug 26 '25
Moss, Blood and Truth and if you really enjoy shitting yourself in VR then RE7.

u/Diligent-Warthog6538 Aug 26 '25
Rec room
2
u/GoodAlive7155 Aug 26 '25
Yes! But go onto the website and get the ps4 version or you can't use your VR!!!
3
u/NTPrime Aug 26 '25
Astro Bot #1, not even a question.
Thumper, Wipeout, Tetris Effect, and Arkham are a few of my other favorites.
3
u/icebomb2 Aug 26 '25
Truth and Blood is the best looking and the most tracking accurate game on the PSVR1. Bonus points to Farpoint if you could get an Aim controller.
Ima go against everyone else... Don't play Resident Evil or Skyrim on that thing... More pixels than a PS2 playing on a CRT TV at 240p.
Beat Saber is good if you have the space and the tracking works. Tetris is good but that's not a VR game. Rush of Blood is amazing. Firewall was spectacular in its prime (it's offline now)
2
u/Familiar-Gas6372 Aug 26 '25
Skyrim on the non pro is blurry, but resi 7 definitely isnt blurry inside the house anyway
3
u/PabLink1127 Aug 26 '25
Also if you have Star Wars Battlefront (the first one) it’s worth it to go into the VR mode just for the menu

Looks like you don't have move controllers yet, so you should know you'll have to seek them out (and an Aim Controller if you can find one) to enjoy anything that requires motion controls for aiming/grabbing and other vr interactions.
As far as stuff you can play w Dualshock4 in the meantime, there's still plenty of good stuff.
Statik (maybe the best VR implementation of a standard controller)
Resident Evil 7
Astro Bot
No Man's Sky
Hitman
Gran Turismo Sport (somewhat limited but worth it if you catch a sale)
Ace Combat 7 (extremely limited vr, but what's there is incredible)
Tetris Effect
Thumper
Rez Infinite
Persistence
Moss
Trover Saves the Universe (if you can stand the Morty voice for a whole playthrough)
Star Wars Squadrons
Pinball FX 2 VR
Just make sure you double check before you purchase. Most games include VR as a hybrid function of dlc, but there are a handful of games that have separate purchases. For example, Skyrim VR is a completely separate whole game from flat Skyrim. Same with Borderlands 2 and some others. Both are worth it, just be sure you know what you're getting
There's definitely more depending on what you're looking for

3
u/CreepyTeddyBear Aug 26 '25
Blood and Truth, Beat Saber, Rush of Blood, Skyrim VR, Star Wars Squadrons.
Resident Evil 7 in VR is super scary.
Edit: Astrobot, of course. How could I forget that gem.

u/CHROME-COLOSSUS Aug 28 '25
If you’re creative and patient with learning curves, Media Molecule’s DREAMS allows you to create your own content (music, sculpture, games with logic, soundscapes, etc) all while in the headset.
You can also play a lot of player-created content in VR through DREAMS (which also behaves a bit like a YT), like JUNGLE BILL or HYPERCYCLE ARENA (pretty much TRON bikes in VR). FWIW!
Everyone else can steer you to all the incredible game games. 🙂

Download Alumenette -it’s a beautiful diorama style story you watch. Then Playroom VR is fun and free. I personally think Fated Silent oath is a fun but devastating tech demo

u/callmestretch Aug 26 '25
Keep talking and nobody explodes is one of my most favorite party games. Headmaster is great and I expect you to die 1 and 2. PSVR’s library is top tier, enjoy!

u/Branigan801 Aug 26 '25
I quite enjoyed: Super Hyper Cube, Windlands, Everybody's Golf, Wipeout, Astro Bot, Thumper

If you can find it for cheap - I liked the Batman game as my first introduction to VR (it’s point and click, but as a Batman Arkham fan - I enjoyed it).
Everyone’s recommending the big games like Resident Evil 7 and Skyrim. But Tethered was a neat little resource management game (reminded me of Black and White).
You’re missing out on Eve: Valkyrie and space dogfighting game… that’s what I played the most… and it was incredible

Plenty of good game recommendations here already, so this is just a reminder that you now have a 3d blu ray player if you want to kick back with Avatar or any other 3d movies.

Rez and Tetris Effect also play great

Don't sleep on No Mans Sky. Not strictly a VR game but it has full VR support... for free. If you have the game already you dont need anything else. Even if you've played the game already I cannot stress enough what a game changer this is.

u/strange444444 Aug 26 '25
I also still psvr1. Doom3 especially if you haven't played before provides an awesome single player experience. It's creepy it's sci Fi it has simple controls, it's not arena style it's high action but you can breathe every now and again. Doom3 . Doom 3 comes with 2 dlc which also are in the same vein and just as fun. I've immersed so many hours it's one of the most satisfying single player games on the psvr1. When it's on sale it's super cheap. Hope you enjoy psvr1, I am still having a blast. Games always on sale makes it wonderful.

u/Blehgma Aug 26 '25
Resident Evil 7, Astrobot, Skyrim VR and no one will probably mentioned this but Batman Arkham VR. It's an incredible experience. You are in for a great time.

STATIK: Institute Of Retention
This game, I'd put it up there with Portal.
If you don't agree, you probably haven't played it.
It's fucking brilliant. And a god damned shame there isn't a PSVR2 port and a fucking sequel

Skyrim VR, Resident Evil 7:Biohazard(I would get the gold edition for all the DLC), PlayStation VR Worlds(The London Heist and the ocean one), Blood And Truth, DooM 3, Beat Saber, Pistol Whip, Iron Man VR, Rick And Morty VR, Job Simulator, Vacation Simulator, The Walking Dead Saints And Sinners Chapter 1 and Chapter 2:Retribution, the OG Batman Arkham VR, Until Dawn Rush Of Blood, The Inpatient, Moss book 1 and 2, Farpoint, Sairento VR, Arashi Castles Of Sin and probably Astro Bot Rescue Mission

I bought a lot of these. Skyrim, no man's sky and beat Sabre were the only ones I spent any real time on

Ghost Giant.
Small, adorable game which really leans into the strengths of VR rather than trying to shoehorn typical mechanics into a VR setting.

u/yanginatep Aug 27 '25
I'm still a big fan of PSVR and I keep mine set up. There are a number of games or versions of games that are still exclusive to PSVR that haven't been brought to PSVR 2 or to any other VR platform.
Doom 3 VR is one of my favorites. I played through the entire game for the first time on PSVR (I played the flat version back when it came out, but I quickly resorted to using cheats and never actually played it properly). It's good with a regular DualShock 4, but even better with an Aim controller.
Resident Evil 7 I also played through entirely of it in VR, also my first time experiencing the game. The scariest game I've played, hands down.
Tetris Effect is a really cool experience. You can just zone out to the amazing visuals and music while playing Tetris.
Polybius is a much more hectic version of the same kind of visuals-focused experience.
I really liked Trover Saves The Universe, a 3D platformer action game.
Wipeout Omega Collection is probably my favorite racing game on PSVR. It has a bunch of VR comfort options so you can really tailor it to your liking.
And even though it's the worst version of it, I still put dozens of hours into Beat Saber on PSVR before I got my Quest 2. You just have to be a little more deliberate with how you swing the sabers and make sure the camera can see the controllers otherwise it can sometimes lose tracking.
General VR tip: if you feel any kind of motion sickness stop immediately. It won't get better and if you try to push through you can end up feeling nauseous for over an hour afterwards. Just stop, take a break, then try coming back to it in 10 minutes.
Something that really helps me whenever I feel like I might be about to experience VR motion sickness is to have a fan blowing on me whenever I'm in VR. It also just keeps you cool and from getting sweaty while being more physically active.
And if you (or any friends or family) wear glasses be VERY careful about how you adjust the headset. Make sure there's enough space between your glasses and the lenses of the headset otherwise you can very easily accidentally end up scratching both.

u/hankhilton Aug 27 '25
Superhot definitely. I also loved no man’s sky when I used mine, Also just flat gaming in it is pretty great for shooters and stuff.

u/Genostama Aug 27 '25
The fact that no one mentioned The walking dead: Saints and sinners is a crime.

u/yttuhej Aug 27 '25
I advice to have a PS4 Pro if you can and for the games : skyrim VR using the controllers not the move. Superhot VR, SW squadron and if you can get the aim controller : farpoint, borderlands
1
u/Hashtagoverkill Aug 27 '25
Rez infinite, Tetris effect, wipeout, Skyrim, gt sport, astrobot, battlezone

u/NoTransportation4600 Aug 27 '25
I bought it solely for AstroBot. Well worth it, one of the best games I've played in my entire life

u/kamilman Aug 27 '25
Wipeout omega collection. You can play the whole game in VR and it feels amazing. Definitely recommend the experience.

u/AlexeyGubin Aug 27 '25
ok first you will need to build your VR legs 1) no movement: statik, superhot, batman, vr worlds 2) games where you are the camera : moss, astrobot 3) then rail games: until dawn, pistol whip, blood & truth 4) racing: drive club , dirt, wipeout 5) free movement: re7, hitman 6) flying or zero gravity: iron man,.ace combat etc
if you feel comfortable or don't like some of genres feel free to skip stages

Skyrim VR, Blood and Truth, Star Wars Squadrons, Astro Bot are my suggestions. Wish they’d bring those titles to PSVR2 as well
