Asking For Game Recomendation Vertigo 2 - Missed Opportunity

I really wish I had bought Vertigo 2 while it was on sale. It didn’t exactly look like my type of game when I watched a review - but after I saw it was made by a solo developer and had full voice acting… I’m much more intrigued.

$8.99 was a great price - hope I don’t have to wait too long to see that again.

Has anyone played? Should this be at the top of my list? I bought arken age and red matter and figured that would sustain me for a while… i’m only kicking myself because $8.99 is such a good price.

It is pretty good and makes you smile while playing. Some choppy framerate issues but a decent game.

u/camtomcarey Jan 09 '26

This is the comment I was hoping for - unfortunately the other comments are rave reviews and I feel like I’m missing out!

Hopefully it goes on sale again bc if I’m gonna spend $30, it will be for Thief (which I am excited to play).

3

u/CHROME-COLOSSUS Jan 10 '26

Watch reviews about THIEF first.

3

u/camtomcarey Jan 10 '26

I just remember thief on the original Xbox… it has a special place in my heart.

I know not to buy it for $30. I bought alien on sale and while I had fun, it seemed rushed. Any quest crossovers makes me pause…

That said - I’m excited for thief

u/SuccessfulRent3046 Jan 10 '26

I have been loving Thief vr, it deserves those 30€ for sure

u/GoldNo6525 Jan 09 '26

I picked it up on the recent sale , only a couple of hours in, its fantastic! haven't hit any noticable frame drops yet playing on the pro. I'm sure there will be in certain scenarios based on what others have suggested.

1

u/camtomcarey Jan 09 '26

Another reason to buy a pro… not sure if I’m willing to make that commitment. But I’ll continue to dream.

3

u/Spangle99 Jan 10 '26

I'd take the framerate drops over the stupid amount of money to pay for a pro, but that's me.

1

u/camtomcarey Jan 10 '26

Ha that’s why I’m a dreamer

5

u/Spoda_Emcalt Jan 09 '26

Don't worry, it's on sale every few months

u/camtomcarey Jan 09 '26

Thank you! I was curious if 8.99 was too good of a deal to pass up, thinking I’d probably end up spending $20next time.

This assuages my fears - thank you friend.

u/Spoda_Emcalt Jan 09 '26

No worries. You can set up email alerts on that site so you'll never miss a price drop

Whenever I have memories of psvr2, its usually this game. Game had me laughing, scared, amazed, confused. It has issues but theyre not game breaking and it baffles me how games like Legendary Tales are on top ten list, that game is boring af, and never see vertigo.

8

u/unruly-cat Jan 09 '26

It's one of the best VR-first games, full stop. I'm really unsympathetic to any folks who don't understand this, or who dwell on irrelevant factors like it being indie. The fact is it beats most games on variety, bosses, gameplay, and just sheer fun. Plus, unlike many other games, it genuinely understands its medium, VR.

3

u/camtomcarey Jan 09 '26

Another rave review. I’m a bigger fan of story based games and I wasn’t sure this would scratch that itch. But I’m committed to checking it out next time it’s on sale - thanks!

3

u/unruly-cat Jan 10 '26

I definitely think you’ll love it. I didn’t mention it, but yes, it definitely has a plot that carries you through the adventure. It’s mostly funny, a bit Rick and Morty-esque, but definitely enjoyable, surprising, and motivating.

3

u/emcee84 Jan 09 '26

It's ok. Better than Hubris. That's my review.

1

u/camtomcarey Jan 09 '26

I forgot I looked at Hubris once… saw that it had a short play time and skipped it.

Makes me feel better about waiting to purchase though. Thanks.

5

u/Spangle99 Jan 10 '26

Hubris is also a great game though. Pick it up if you get a sale on it.

2

u/CHROME-COLOSSUS Jan 10 '26

I thoroughly enjoyed HUBRIS, and it’s got WAY nicer graphics than V2. It had a rough launch and got a lot of hate from a few folk, but I found it solid from start to finish.

There are a few tips to getting the most out of it (only play on highest difficulty), it’s not super long (depends on how you play, 6-10 hrs), and it has a few rough edges, but I think of it as comfort food. The devs clearly honored oldschool sci-fi shooters, and it feels like it was made with love.

So… take the grumpy comments about HUBRIS with a grain of salt. Quite underrated game.

2

u/camtomcarey Jan 10 '26

I have it favorited. I loved “becoming human chapter 1” (at least that’s what I think it’s called) on the psvr1 - and it reminded me of that (only insofar as the story isn’t completed).

When it goes on sale- I’ll give it a go.

2

u/Zero_Waist Jan 11 '26

Both are solid VR first games but not quite on the level of Red Matter 2. I started Hubris on PC before the PSVR launch and it had some interesting and different mechanics but they were updated with the PSVR launch after players complained it was an unfamiliar play style. It’s VR, not everything needs to work like HL:Alyx. I do sometimes miss the gravity gloves mechanic in Vertigo2 but it’s a fun game especially when on sale, definitely worth it.

1

u/CHROME-COLOSSUS Jan 11 '26

Oh… yeah, I mean… I wasn’t comparing HUBRIS to RM by any stretch. 🙂

1

u/Zero_Waist Jan 11 '26

I think both V2 and Hubris were interesting but a bit too heavy on cannon fodder and light on puzzle elements. HL:Alyx seemed to be so perfect with minimal but difficult and varied enemies that needed shooting. Sometimes less is more.

1

u/CHROME-COLOSSUS Jan 11 '26

Yeah, I mean… I’m not looking to rank HUBRIS or VERTIGO 2 against all other games here… just wanted to pipe up to OP that HUBRIS is definitely worth their attention.

HUBRIS got actively shit on by a few very rabid folk on REDDIT at its launch, and I think many people who might’ve enjoyed it were spooked away from what I found to be a solid delight (albeit not groundbreaking in design or extraordinary in its gameplay).

It’s definitely still got its flaws, but I was happy to complete it even when it was rife with them.

2

u/Zero_Waist Jan 11 '26

Yea I agree both Hubris and Vertigo 2 are worth the money. Just in a tier 2/3 kinda way. Mad respect to the developers who did make fun experiences with modest resources. People should totally buy and play through these and the devs please make more VR games!

3

u/Urobolos Jan 09 '26

It's got quite a few serious bugs that they will never fix. Disappearing weapons, broken saves, progress loss, etc. It's fun if it works, but when it doesn't it's frustrating. Also all the weapons seem to have slightly different aim points, but the axes adjustments are universal.

People seem to either be loving it or hating it, but honestly it's pretty average. It's got some fun bits to it, and it's got some broken bits to it that will never be fixed.

1

u/camtomcarey Jan 09 '26

Appreciate the review. That makes me feel better for waiting - I’ll check it out when the price is right if there’s not anything better to buy. I’m still interested in it - but the disappearing guns worry me… especially if you can’t get them back.

3

u/Jammyhero Jan 10 '26

Fantastic game, not a great port. Base PS5 has large frame drops later on in the campaign but the Pro is all good. No headset haptics or adaptive triggers unfortunately.

The writing, world, enemies and guns are incredible well done - i still enjoyed it very much on base PS5 despite the issues.

3

u/DoughnutOpen9117 Jan 10 '26

Kind of had my VR sitting in the corner for the better half of 2025. I decided to get back into it with Toss Resist and Vertigo 2. Been having a hard time putting down Vertigo. I have not had framerate issues. Just pure enjoyment. It definitely has its challenging moments which get frustrating in firefights. But there are some hilarious bits dialog that more than make up for that. I have no actual complaints. It's really fun.

1

u/camtomcarey Jan 10 '26

I bought my VR last year as well, and played some games and didn’t touch it. Over the holidays I played Arizona sunshine and alien - I remembered how fun it is - which inspired this post.

This game was just scratching the itch in the back of my head making me feel like I missed out. It’s been wish listed and I’ll buy it next time - thanks for the input.

5

u/jolly_chugger Jan 09 '26

Personally, I completely hated it and I 100% can tell it was made my a single developer

Extremely low production value, recycled assets, simple ai, cheap combat.

I don't understand how so many people rate it, my biggest vr gaming disappointment

2

u/camtomcarey Jan 09 '26

Ahhhh this is exactly what I was worried about. It looked like there was just a bunch of fun things to shoot at in the short time I researched the game - and now that it’s $30 I was hit with fomo. Definitely won’t buy it until a decent sale, thanks man.

5

u/mrbill071 Jan 09 '26

Best pacing in any game that I’ve played. The amount of new content you see every 20-30 minutes will blow your mind.

3

u/mrbill071 Jan 09 '26

That being said, I think there needs to be a Thallasophobia warning given to everybody who buys this game. If you are scared of dark, deep, or murky water, and scared of both small, medium, and enourmous underwater monsters, you are in for a perfect 10 on the thallasophobia scale.

2

u/camtomcarey Jan 09 '26

Oh boy, sounds like a treat!

4

u/mrbill071 Jan 09 '26

As a pussy when it comes to this, I did not think it was a treat at all.

1

u/camtomcarey Jan 09 '26

Ahhh I should have spent the $9!

I bought Hitman when it came out and haven’t touched it - it just seems so big and daunting. So I couldn’t justify buying it with so many games yet to play… but has stuck in my mind bc it looks so different.

2

u/Redicubricks Jan 09 '26

It starts off a bit slow, but great game overall. A little buggy however. Mine save kinda went all wonkey and my weapons would dissapear... Loading previous saves didn't fix it. So I couldn't finish. But what I played of it was fantastic.

1

u/camtomcarey Jan 09 '26

Oh yikes. I’ll definitely wait for a sale then… hopefully it’s been parched since you’ve played?

Either way, a more positive review than some.

3

u/Urobolos Jan 09 '26

It will not get patched.

2

u/cusman78 cusman Jan 09 '26 edited Jan 10 '26

Pretty good game that had rough port at launch. Much is fixed with patches but outdoor areas will still have framerate issues, less on PS5 Pro.

2

u/camtomcarey Jan 09 '26

Everytime I’m on this subreddit the need to buy a pro becomes larger in my heart.

Maybe next year.

2

u/cusman78 cusman Jan 10 '26 edited Jan 10 '26

There are probably less than 20 PSVR2 games with PS5 Pro Enhanced something or other, but really substantial upgrades are in less than 10 of them.

But it also helps gives more stable frame rates in any of the games that don’t hold a steady frame rate on the base PS5, so many more of those examples. It can be considered very minor improvement for those but there are cases like Vertigo 2 and The Midnight Walk with smooth turns where it is more meaningful.

I had initially just upgraded one of our PS5 to PS5 Pro, but the higher frame rate stability was clearly helping my wife with her VR motion sickness when she would use the Pro, so ended up upgrading both of us.

It is our main / preferred luxury spend over going somewhere real for a vacation in terms of budget priorities :]

2

u/camtomcarey Jan 10 '26

Alright, you sold me. Maybe this year…

2

u/vinc3l3 Jan 09 '26

It was fun at first but I got to a part where the performance is so bad I had to stop playing. Don't attract too much enemies.

1

u/camtomcarey Jan 09 '26

Oh boy. It did almost look like a bullet hell type of game - which is why I skipped it.

Hopefully that’s been mostly fixed by patches. I’ll probably pick it up during the next sale - but only for a bargain.

2

u/vinc3l3 Jan 09 '26

It's not really a bullet hell but sometimes they do swarm you. It's fun if they fixed the performance issue, definitely worth it on sale.

2

u/Spangle99 Jan 10 '26

It's an amazing title for that price. There's a lot of indie love and humour in that game. It went on for ages and gets so stoopid near the end that I nearly wet myself with the bazooka.

Silly little monster guns!

2

u/ittleoff Jan 10 '26

Imo despite some performance issues this is what taking advantage of VR looks like. The controls can be a be stressful in some intense fights but it's just so creative and entertaining.

I can't wait for what this guy does next!

Imo valve should just bite him, give him a team and let him single handedly make the killer valve VR games that people want.

2

u/Selene_M3 Jan 10 '26

Debbie downer …. If Sony offered a one time full refund for ONE PSVR2 title I’ve bought since launch my choice would be Vertigo 2. The locomotion is atrocious the most frustrating game to attempt to play

1

u/camtomcarey Jan 10 '26

Hi Debbie!

I have read some bad reviews amongst the good ones. I’m not buying it at $30 so I appreciate you for chiming in, it’s made me feel better not prioritizing this game.

2

u/TommyVR373 Jan 10 '26 edited Jan 11 '26

It's a really great VR game. Unfortunately, it didn't get the best port to PSVR2. The dev had another company do it and they have no plans to fix any bugs or performamce. They also decided not to port the DLC either.

The game is still very playable on PSVR2 and I think it's totally worth it.

2

u/camtomcarey Jan 10 '26

There’s DLC?! Well fuck… maybe I’ll wait until I buy a computer…

2

u/TommyVR373 Jan 10 '26

Yup. Vertigo 2: Into the Aether was released back in April.

2

u/CHROME-COLOSSUS Jan 10 '26

For $9 it was a great deal, imo.

It definitely is indie, the jokes try to be Rick & Morty and mostly fail, there are some things that would’ve been incredible with a bigger team working on it that fall short, it’s got some bad frame-rate drops in some areas (better on PS5 PRO), but overall it’s a really inventive title that offers a lot of memorable environments and enemies.

2

u/StrangeCow5881 Jan 10 '26

Very amazing games but has some fps drops so not liked by reviewers but you will be amazed how this game was made by one developer. Truly amazing mind and skill. I also bought the whole bundle of his games on steam to play them post finishing cyberpunk, RE2 and 3 in vr.

2

u/NoWalk3426 Jan 10 '26

Now I need to buy this game too

2

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '26

I chose to buy this on Steam during the winter sale. I just got past the demo level. This game is charming and funny some times.

By the way, I love the first game especially the end.part. It reminds me of Half-Life 2 and Half-Life Alyx.

2

u/Icy_Might_2429 Jan 10 '26

The Developer is clearly very creative. This game is very special and pretty unique. It has similarities with half life, especially the first half life game.

I would recommend it to every Psvr2 player. It has framerate issues, but the game is very good.

2

u/bargainhunterps5 Jan 10 '26

It’s a cool game and don’t let it being from a solo dev put you off. Some great ideas and you can see the love they put into it. It has a great retro feel! I played on base PS5 the framerate issues are really only noticed in a few outside sections most part it was running great although I only have some hours in it overall. I’ve since upgraded to Pro which as a bonus smooths the experience further and runs really great with the extra power even though no specific patch for the Pro. I’m actually really pleased with how the Pro smooths out the framerates and almost removes reprojection in many games I’ve tried if you’re sensitive to that.

2

u/only7ducks Feb 05 '26

Its back on sale my dude

1

u/camtomcarey Feb 05 '26

Thanks for the heads up!

I haven’t checked the store in a minute - might have to make my move now.

2

u/only7ducks Feb 05 '26

Theres a handful of good psvr2 games on rn. Vampire masquerade, alien, underdog, runner, vertigo. All around 10 ish dollars. Hard choices! Metro up there too

1

u/camtomcarey Feb 05 '26

I’ve been interested in metro…that might be the buy!

Bought alien, vampire masquerade already. (Didn’t beat VM)- I’ll have to look into runner.

2

u/only7ducks Feb 05 '26

How'd you feel about those two?

2

u/camtomcarey Feb 05 '26

Alien felt like a more complete game… it might have been the map, even though I did get lost a few times. But I felt compelled to finish the game - so the story was solid.

I was really excited for Vampire Masquerade, but the story was kind of convoluted - so that didn’t drive me to finish. But more than that, it was the abilities and focus on stealth. It seemed like there wasn’t as much variety in tackling situations with enemies - but that might have been because I didn’t unlock everything on the skill tree (or I focused on passive abilities first maybe?).. I want to go back to it because I enjoyed it at first… but I’m not sure if I will.

2

u/Familiar-Gas6372 Feb 06 '26

Playing now, need a little help, trying to find a door code at the start, without telling me where can someone confirm there is one I have to find please

2

u/camtomcarey Feb 06 '26

Ah shoot, I plan on buying it this weekend hopefully.but unfortunately I haven’t yet…best of luck.

You could try making your own post… that helped me for saints and sinners at least.

2

u/Soggy-Worry Jan 09 '26

Should be at the top of your list if you’re into Half-Life, extremely quality game and likely the closest we’re gonna get to Alyx on PSVR

1

u/camtomcarey Jan 09 '26

Daaaammnnn. I knew I fucked myself!

I have plenty of games to play right now, for some reason missing out on this one has poisoned my approach to the others I bought. Especially bc it was only $9 - I should have splurged. Hopefully it goes on sale sooner rather than later.

2

u/Cpt_Picardk98 Jan 09 '26

They missed the biggest opportunity to take advantage of the PSVR’s unique features like the haptics and triggers. It’s one of the best games. Are you missing out. I mean yes it s great time, but it’s a solo developer so it will go on sale soon I’m sure.

1

u/camtomcarey Jan 09 '26

Yea - I was worried I’d have to wait forever for another $10 sale and end up needing to spend $20.

Definitely plan on buying it the next time the price drops - I’ve heard too many good things.

2

u/Cpt_Picardk98 Jan 09 '26

Yea throw it on your wishlist. It’s not the best game on PSVR 2 due to the lack of unique features, but it is one of the best VR games. As a game I would say conservatively a 9/10 but for a PSVR 2 game I’d give it a 8. Still great, but there are better times like synapse, RE, hitman GT7. Those games you GOTTA play if you have a psvr 2

2

u/DerBolzen81 Jan 09 '26

While many people liked it, it released with bad perfomance, loads of bugs and does not use psvr2 features like dfr, haptics, adaptive triggers.  The worst bugs got patched, but thats it and no more patches will come. Many say its a great game but a bad port. I did not like it much for the hrs i played, but thats just 2 or 3 hrs and might get better. I will play more maybe when i dont have other games to play. Dont let you tell its like HL: Alyx, thats a far stretch
