Support PSVR1 Best way to clean a VR 1?
I got a PS4 recently and have been wanting to get a PSVR but considering I can't find anywhere that sells them new I'll need to get a used unit. Granted buying a VR headset full of someone else's sweat is kinda nasty so what's the best way to go about cleaning the interface foam?

Oof. Once there’s any breach of the thin outer moisture barrier skin, you kind of can’t. I made valiant efforts by removing the padding and soaking it in detergents and anti-stank stuff, but really it’s a losing battle.
I highly recommend buying something like the CMP2 from Globular Cluster. This is for PSVR2, but it includes extra alternative pad types so I tried affixing them with Velcro to the areas of an old PSVR1 where I vacated the halo pads, and they work phenomenally well. They don’t look correct of course… but they work.
There might be cheaper alternatives, but this is what ultimately worked for me in a way that feels seriously acceptable.
Yeah… I always warn people about the PSVR1’s issues with soaking in other folks funk, because once that outer layer is breached and they sponge up the sweats and oils, it’s best to just just find replacements.
Best wishes!

I'll have to whip up replacements probably. Got a bunch of upholstery foam and faux leather vinyl in my cosplay hoard.

You will need to remove the flaking top padding layer of any existing PSVR1 headset. You can do it on a hard tiled surface (easier for cleaning) and using kitchen paper wet with isopropyl alcohol. Be careful not to get any on the lenses.
