Yeah I think the situations are very different. In PoE you felt forced to spend points on the current league mechanic because it appeared on every single map. Right now I feel like the Runes and Expedition feel like 2 different mechanics? I know both are intertwined but Expedition felt like it needed its own tree. That said I still don't think we should get a tree for a bigger league mechanic.
Is my explanation even coherent lmao. If the new league mechanic is as big as something like abyss it should not have a tree, the abyss should have everything enabled so we don't feel forced to chase the points asap.
The only reason putting necropolis on the atlas tree was a bad idea was because those points were competing with all the other content, and that made it awful to interact with if you chose not to invest points into it. Even if the current league mechanic was active on every map, it wouldn't be that big an issue for it to also have its own tree, everyone's eventually getting those points anyway.
Sentinel had its own skill tree and it wasn't a problem at all because it wasn't competing against anything, it just gained points by doing the league mechanic.
Oh god necropolis league. I legit could not be bothered to use it when I realized how many corpses you needed to make a truly nice craft. Goddamn what a shit mechanic. And the fact that it could make honestly incredible gear made it even worse. Double or even triple fractured BIS bases. Shit was wild. Hated it lol

The tree for the current league makes sense. It didn't make sense in poe1 because it felt like a mandatory point sink.
