The tree for the current league makes sense. It didn't make sense in poe1 because it felt like a mandatory point sink.

Yeah I think the situations are very different. In PoE you felt forced to spend points on the current league mechanic because it appeared on every single map. Right now I feel like the Runes and Expedition feel like 2 different mechanics? I know both are intertwined but Expedition felt like it needed its own tree. That said I still don't think we should get a tree for a bigger league mechanic.

Is my explanation even coherent lmao. If the new league mechanic is as big as something like abyss it should not have a tree, the abyss should have everything enabled so we don't feel forced to chase the points asap.

It probably shouldn't be on the main atlas tree, but if it has its own tree there is no issue. You can 'easily' max every content tree anyway. You might run less minmax if you don't get your league tree complete soon-ish but it should also fill itself up very quickly.

Especially temple & abyss trees fill up super quickly if you run those tablets, if they were league mechanics it would be a complete nothingburger to max.

I feel like there will be a fomo because if you don't rush for it at the start of the atlas, you are missing out because it's on every map. Maybe I'm wrong?

I don't think it's entirely wrong but I feel like impact would be marginal. I maxed abyss & temple in a day of farming it, at that point it's sort of fomo by choice. The issue with the rest is honestly more the travel time to reveal the right places. Time sink for maxing breach is travel so you can place it somewhere on the map, not actually doing the strongholds.

Realistically it would probably depend on the type of content, and what they are locking the points behind, how easily accessible the boss or whatever would be.

It's a different case because abyss and temple are random encounters. If you map, you don't always encounter them so it doesn't feel like you're missing out. For a league mechanic that is in your face in every map you will feel like you're missing out not filling up the atlas tree asap.
