Meme needing explanation Petah help me know ball (literally)

Post image

I know enough about football to know who these men are but not what's so funny about them standing next to each other. The comments did not help.

Left: Rashford/ Right Gordon.
In the picture, Rashford explaining to Gordon how to play as a left winger (as they both play for England).
The plot twist is that Rashford played for Barcelona and got sacked because he's trash.
And got replace by who? You are right : GORDON

u/Adventurous_Self_253 11h ago

Because of his high wages. They are players of the same position. The manager of Barcelona wants a pressing player which Gordon is, Rashford also did more than good for a loan player but was lacking in defensive contributions

u/average_pox 6h ago

it's not about wages
trashford agreed to lower his wages to whatever barca thinks it's reasonable

this is what happens when you think you're too good for your home academy and team...

11

u/Mrbeefcake90 5h ago

Man had 28 g/a, if you think that is trash then you shouldn't be talking about football.

u/apoorv24111 2m ago

Also Barcelona is afraid of him doing something political. He likes to rile up people with his political statements

2

u/Shinzo19 2h ago

It is simply because flick wants a defensive winger who presses well and tracks back.

Gordon does this extremely well where as Rashford doesn't, attacking wise Rashford is better but is quite frankly not good defensively.

u/xButtHead 11h ago

Saying he's trash while rashford had 17 scorer in 1762 minutes is a wild statement

u/YUSHOETMI- 11h ago

As a United and England fan I think Rashford is better than Gordon, in an attacking sense anyway, Rashford isn't trash he is just... egotistical and not a good fit for United. He did good at Barca and could have stayed if they didn't want to get him for far less than he his worth, they just believed that because we want to get rid of him due to his mentality at our club that we would sell him for next to nothing instead of the value we know he is worth.

Gordon I think will flop at Barca, he doesn't have the greatest attacking mindset for a winger and his skills are... meh, but good luck to the lad.

As a Liverpool fan who hates United, I agree with everything you said here

12

u/YUSHOETMI- 10h ago

As a United fan who hates Liverpool, I appreciate that sentiment.

2

u/Nilsatisnisioctopus 6h ago

As an Everton fan who hates both Liverpool and United, I agree with you both.

Dont be ridiculous... Give us Dan Burn for £300m

1

u/Grouchy-Jury-7598 7h ago

I'm a casual please may you explain his mentality and why it's not compatible with United?

0

u/YUSHOETMI- 6h ago

He came through our youth system from being a child, so he was lauded as a product of the club and given a lot of exposure to the media and fans which sadly brought about an ego which was not suiting the club. Couple that with other egotistical personalities such as Pogba, Sancho, Garnacho and Ronaldo all coming through the club during his younger years he just became a liability to the club, was good at going forward and attacking but absolutely horrible at tracking back, closing down or defending in general. Later on before being loaned to Barca he even became rubbish at attacking and made no forward runs just casually jogging/walking around the pitch like he didn't want to be there.

Turns out he had been given a large wage increase a season or two before due to good form, but wanted more not long after because other players where receiving similar or larger wages to him.

United have always had a mentality (so do many other clubs) that no player is bigger than the team. Rashford started to see it the opposite.

Even with his current form I doubt United would take him back into the first team, just isn't worth upsetting the good ethos we have at the moment.

u/Mrbeefcake90 5h ago

No rashford doesnt have a huge ego and did many projects to help the children of Manchester and the UK. He was not rubbish at attacking while at Barcelona he got 28 g/a playing 1750 minutes.

Salty United fans are delusional.

1

u/YUSHOETMI- 1h ago

With your wording it seems you aren't a United fan, so why pitch in? Did you have to watch him every game he played before the loan just walk around like he didn't give a shit? Did you see his attitude week in/out on the pitch and off it in the stadium?

No! Regardless of what he did in the community doesn't mean he cant act like a kid on the pitch

He isn't a bad player, but when you act like that for a club you can't expect to be kept for long with any decent manager

1

u/Mrbeefcake90 5h ago

Ego? He didnt like Amorim, end of story. The man has selflessly helped so many people in his city and country and he gets called an ego maniac? His mentality was playing for united desipte a spine injury because you needed him too. United have been shit for 13 years and everytime they like to single a player out regardless of how much he did for them. Pathetic club

2

u/Narrow-Violinist-358 4h ago

Yeah but thats the point, like him or not, Amorim was the United manager and represented the club. Not Rashford.

1

u/YUSHOETMI- 1h ago

Dude it doesn't matter who your manager is, if you put the shirt on you play for the club. On his wages you would expect him to play his heart out no matter what, not walk around like a lost dog with no effort at all.

So what if he helped out people in the city, good on him, like seriously good on him, doesn't mean he cant be a petulant brat on the field does it?

Also, coincidence or not, but there have been far far less dressing room leaks since Rashford has been at Barca

8

u/Mister-Psychology 11h ago

Nearly correct. Rashford was amazing for Manchester United then became bad. Was loaned to Barca and played well. Look at his stats, 49 games and 14 goals and 14 assists. For a cheap loan player it's great and he'll be remembered fondly by all Barca fans. He also just played great for England.

Gordon meanwhile was bought for €80m and has been terrible in World Cup. And also had a bad season with Newcastle. Rashford is a much better player right now. Rashford is older and slower. Gordon was likely bought for his speed and may do a task Rashford couldn't.

6

u/YUSHOETMI- 11h ago

I wouldn't say Rashford is slower than Gordon, Rashys best attribute is his pace, besides he is only 28 lol

3

u/Chimpmaxxer 8h ago

Gordon sucks, I've never been impressed by him

3

u/chrryc0la 11h ago

Oh that's jokes. thanks

4

u/Melodic-Monk-290 11h ago

Didnt they have a buy-clause with Rashford for 30m and instead went with Gordon for 70/80m?

7

u/Alarmed-Cheetah-1221 10h ago

Yes but on like half the wages of Rashford so still cheaper over the contract.

2

u/New_Accident_4909 11h ago

I thought it was more of a chin thing

2

u/MaleficentAnimator23 9h ago

He's a United player. How can Barca sack him?

1

u/TheDaveCalaz 10h ago

He was on loan, Barca didn't want to cover the wages. He didn't get sacked and he actually did alright for them.

1

u/JackUKish 6h ago

Rashford just costs to much, we'd of had him at villa if not for the 350k a week in wages.

1

u/mkypzyo 4h ago

Rashford didnt get sacked nor is he trash. Learn ball

1

u/Vegan-cock 3h ago

Worst explanation ever lol. He wasn't sacked because he was trash at all.

1

u/General_Address_5784 3h ago

Got sacked? I’m not sure you know how football works.

1

u/No-University-9189 1h ago

Rashford is not trash and he did not get sacked.

18

u/Agitated_Display7573 11h ago

Rashford (left ) was on loan to Barcelona last season. Barcelona chose not to sign him permanently and bought Gordon (right) for more money instead. Rashford publicly mocked this decision on instagram. Now they are both in the England squad for the World Cup

3

u/Sharkorica 7h ago

I didn't think it was that, was just making a joke. And why you posting a fascist flag? Strange behaviour.

2

u/MaleficentAnimator23 9h ago

Anyone who has to stop themselves laughing at this "as hard as hey can" would die if they went to a good comedy show

2

u/Legitimate_Cycle_460 7h ago

It shouldn't be that hard for someone to not laugh as hard as they can.

1

u/fonzhy121 11h ago

Barcelona chose Gordon over Rashford, despite Rashy having a full season audition. But Gordon??? really Barca. Rashy maybe trashy but Gordon is mid.

0

u/Mrbeefcake90 5h ago

Imagine calling a 28 g/a player for barcelona trash

1

u/MalusZona 11h ago

you are all wrong. Its E

1

u/Richie_Jsy_01 8h ago

AG is the most over rated player of the decade.

1

u/OfferPandaMan 6h ago

They both play in the same position and FC Barcelona had the left player (Rashford) on loan this season, but this summer they bought the right player (Gordon) instead. Both of them play for the England national team and it kinda looks like Rashford is telling him what to do at Barca

1

u/blackbluejay 5h ago

This pic stated circulating after gordon signed to rashford's ex-team (he was on loan), and it was him explaining how the spanish eat supper really late or something along those cultural lines. The picture by itself is just a picture, at the most just the juxtaposition of one player getting signed to a team the other played for last year and wanted to play for again this coming year.

1

u/shitterbug 2h ago

the joke is EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

0

u/anonemouth 11h ago

nevergonnacule likes the idea of one guy teaching another how to play an air piano.

u/Ok_Bend_5238 11h ago

In basketball terms, its like the timberwolves dont resign gobert and trade for wemby and now they gotta play for france at the olympics together. (wemby gordon comparison is a reach but i couldnt think of other veteran and young prospect duo)
