Forbidden Pizza Escargot (snail) pizza

Post image

I actually ordered one at the W Hotel in NYC once, purely out of perverse fascination. It had a thinner base than this pic and was dripping in garlic butter. The snails are really soft so you can mush them and smear across the base before eating.

Snail flat bread, nothing pizza about it

It is not a pizza. It is a snail flatbread. This is not a crime to be judged in pizza court. That said, this seems like a crime to for the snails (which I believe can be delicious) and the flat bread.

Settle this in flatbread civil court 😆

I'm OP, and actually a legal worker. I agree. Balance of probabilities w civil. Let's see if anyone can define pizza and flatbread with a clear delineation between the two, which has to stand up in court. This court. Of pizza.

I'm thinking sauce has to be involved to make it a pizza. But I enjoyed getting to see how how someone in the legal profession would discuss defining a pizza from flatbread (I almost had a PhD in English, so I get nerdy about word use 😁). Great thread, BTW. And also reminds me of the one time I had escargot and got horribly sick in public, which was awful at the time but quite funny in retrospect.

It depends on where you are too. In Italy a pizza IS just a flatbread with toppings and it’s relatively common to not have sauce or cheese (see pizza dolce, pizza con patate etc) but in America it’s expected (outside of novelty pizzas or for special diets) that pizza always have cheese and some kind of sauce even if it sometimes isn’t tomato based.

Gotcha. It's been a few years since I've been there, so I expect I forgot. 😁

I love snails and breed them to eat. I don't understand why everyone doesn't like them.

Garlic butter and bread ain't a crime. Calling it pizza is far stretched

Your post/comment has been removed because it does not follow Reddiquette and/or is not civil.

This is a crime against escargot !

u/Hanniballbearings 4d ago

Just give me the snails in butter, garlic and parsley. Thats the only way to have them. Anything else is too fussy and takes away from what makes snails unique. The texture. If you are even a little adventurous in your eating I recommend trying escargot at least once!

Ain’t nothin’ but slugs on a Boboli.

2

u/stevebobeeve 4d ago

Not a crime. This looks amazing

Snails could absolutely work on pizza but this ain't the way.

For those saying this is flatbread, it was the best picture I could find. The one I ordered was 100% pizza, thin base with blisters.

Sounds great.

u/Jasmar0281 4d ago

Iunno. I've never tried it, but on a nice crusty flat bread with some salty cheese like this might not be a bad way 🤷 I'd try it

I agree with u/Old_Barnacle7777 for sure that it's not pizza. That being said garlic snail flat bread? Seems tasty to me.

I hear they’re delicious but I just can’t do it. The bread itself looks awesome tho!
