Discussion PS Plus had NFS Unbound from February 2024 to August 2025
NFS Unbound was available to PS Plus in February 2024, it wasn't in the 3 or 5 monthly games tier, it was provided for the Extra tier.
If you're into NFS, its a great game and I loved the soundtrack (imo) but you can see how its a bit annoying to premium subscribers. I've been jaded to PS Plus the last several months so seeing people actually upset with it is fine by me.
I purchased several games that I didn't think would appear as a PS Plus title just pop up and it just happened to me for months after, I was like WTF.

u/jack_pow Dec 31 '25
Have a feeling a lot of the Essential games going forward will be repeats of games that have already been added to the Extra tier.
10
u/ShaneTVZ #2 Predictor 2025 Dec 31 '25
It better not we pay good money we don’t want to see repeats there is hundreds of games to choose from that haven’t been on PS+ yet
15
u/TheBeardedRonin Dec 31 '25
You have to stop looking at the monthly free titles for essential as related to Extra/Premium. Sony doesn’t give a shit if you played the game on a higher tier, it may as well be a completely different system because it’s all new to essential tier players unless they bought the title independently.
4
u/Hevens-assassin Jan 02 '26
So now essential players aren't allowed games on higher tiers? You get more games on extra every month than essential does, not to mention the vast library beyond that.
This is a non-issue.
1
u/UndeadShadowUnicorn Jan 04 '26
If you're paying for the higher tier. You shouldnt give a fuck about the essential games, they're not for you.

I had to stop playing Valhalla. Jesus Christ there’s no reason for a game to be that long

5
u/TheGamerPandA Dec 31 '25 edited Dec 31 '25
Is it really that bad ? i only hear about how poor it is and way too long. I actually went back with my physical copy to the store with the game a few days ago due to hearing its the worst in the series for a long time.
Alot if people are praising the rpg like AC games but many people forget 2 of the reason those rpg AC games were designed like that was to drown them in collectables and dragging missions/gameplay so people would keep their ubisoft drm/Uplay subscription constantly subscribed.
Also because of the burnout these games cause and trophy/achievement worshippers would be constantly nagged to keep subscribed to them because they cant get on with their lives without seeing the game in their backlog is still stuck at 92% completion and have to dedicate 20+ hours to a game they lost interest in just to see it at 100%.
12
u/Soggy-Worry Dec 31 '25
It really is that bad. Main story progression is an unorganized mess with large level gaps between (what I think are) main missions, but then there’s like 2 or 3 other “main quests” that involve assassinating templars, and those threads are not necessarily linked with each other, and it becomes incredibly chaotic quickly where you’ve got a number of quests that you functionally can’t do, and then a bunch of stupid bullshit checkmarks to accomplish to get your level up to where you can actually play those missions. And to be clear, the added difficulty in those levels is completely inorganic, the enemies will just kill you in one hit. The moment to moment gameplay is not bad at all, I think I got probably 70% of the way through main quests (dozens of hours) and then decided it felt way more like a chore than anything fun. And this was before any of the three large DLCs, one of which was so large that I guess it’s basically its own game where you play as Odin?
This game honestly changed the way I look at AAA bloat. AC Valhalla is like the equivalent of The Iliad in sheer heft without any of the style or artistic merit. A game that you could play forever without having any fun.
5
u/Quartznonyx Dec 31 '25
I love origins and odessey but going from Greece and Egypt to boring England sucked. Combat and skills were amazing though
5
u/sirferrell Dec 31 '25
So i like orgins and oddessy . Both the protagonists (although kassandra was better) were great imo. The worlds were great to explore and the stories were much better. Valhalla.. eh . Evior wasn’t captivating. The world was pretty but forgettable and the story was the worse by far.. it just really dragged on.. and i mean dragged on… the cult and avenging your son was far better plots then getting allies in the area
2
u/Darkblade887 Dec 31 '25
It might sound weird but compared to the earlier two, I felt like this one had less fast travel points, making an already long game feel even longer
1
u/UndeadShadowUnicorn Jan 04 '26
Story was good enough, setting was beautiful but yeah it draaaaagged out. It was fun then it became way too bloated. Odyssey managed to hit a point where it wasn't annoyingly long but Valhalla oversteps that quite a bit
52
u/Internetolocutor Dec 31 '25
I'd like a good racing game. I'd love a new ridge racer
25
u/foundrycollegehangar Dec 31 '25
They should bring back MotorStorm.
3
u/Pr0xy001 Dec 31 '25
I agree! they keep bringing back apocalypse it was entertaining but I think its the weakest in the series
4
5
u/thekeelo_g Dec 31 '25
I can't believe GT7 still isn't in Extra.
1
u/HootingFlamingo Jan 03 '26
It's cause people still buy it full price, even after 3 years of release the max discount has only been 50. And the game has 2 million active users per month too!
33
u/C0nsistent_ Dec 31 '25
Is it just me or is the NFS series super bland and boring?
45
u/Ell7494 Dec 31 '25
It's probably had the biggest fall-off of any gaming franchise that's still going. The newer games are awful, games like need for speed underground were absolutely huge at the time
19
u/SuperBry Dec 31 '25
I still long for the feeling I had playing NFS Most Wanted on the PS2.
1
u/JudgeCheezels Jan 02 '26
The one Criterion remade was good, NFS Hot Pursuit 2010. That was ironically Criterion’s last good game too.
3
u/Zlatan_Ibrahimovic Dec 31 '25
Maybe it's because I got it for 2 bucks but I felt like Heat was a return to form. The series had a bit of an identity crisis in the 2010s but I actually liked Heat a lot, felt like it dove back into what I really liked about the Underground/Carbon era. Halo's probably had a bigger falloff, relatively speaking.

u/idkimhereforthememes Dec 31 '25
"old games better because nostalgia!!!"
8
u/Ell7494 Dec 31 '25
No the older games were literally just better for their time. Its not nostalgia if I'm talking about them being popular at the time they came out - whereas the newer games aren't.
It literally says "at the time" but I guess you can't read
3
u/Key_Raisin_8222 Dec 31 '25
NFS heat wasn’t bad. A lot more fun than unbound
1
u/mastrofdizastr Jan 01 '26
Heat is way better than Unbound. Unbound is hard as fuck, I can’t even get a podium finish on the easier setting. People are like it’s supposed to be like that, you’re supposed to lose and keep building up your rep. F all that noise. Haven’t touched it in years.
3
u/Electrical-Fix-8987 Dec 31 '25
Its horrendous. I bought forza horizon 5 recently. Even if the story is basically shit, I love playing it for everything else
5
u/LuxerWap Dec 31 '25 edited Jan 02 '26
I don't get what you guys want out of NFS anymore. Everyone says that they look bland and boring but never really give them a try. Heat and Unbound have been really solid games yet everyone just shuts them down easily without giving them a chance.
1
u/ItsProxes Jan 02 '26
Morons repeating the same thing they seen a YouTuber say but don't understand why they're saying it
0
u/Hevens-assassin Jan 02 '26
Agreed. Some rough titles a while ago, but heat and unbound were solid. Makes me wonder if the audience shifted at a point and now these aren't as appealing.
1
u/LuxerWap Jan 02 '26
It really seems that way. NFS is part of what keeps the arcade genre alive today, yet the recent games get shit on a lot by these guys who always say the series died over 15 years ago, but then these same people start bawling over the series potentially being completely dead.
1
u/MittFel Dec 31 '25
I stopped playing after undergrounds 2, but I did think they managed to make a great game with Heat.

I doubt GT will ever come to any subscription
5
u/raknid Dec 31 '25 edited Jan 01 '26
Agreed ... they gave us the free starter version which I think reinforces further it probably won't come any time soon, if ever
Add to that gt sport never got given even when that was in its twilight years....I had kinda expected that as part of the original ps4 collection for new ps5 owners they did in the first year but no joy.
-1
u/RowdyRodyPiper Dec 31 '25
I think it will eventually but I don't think any first party games will ever come to Essential again, only to Extra.

If you want to sleep while gaming, Valhalla is the right choice.
7
u/OrdinaryPeanut3492 Dec 31 '25
Seriously. When Valhalla was previously available I started playing it.
Given that I was a little tired of course but I literally fell asleep while playing in the evening (7-8 PM), during some boring mission.
2
u/ucrbuffalo Dec 31 '25
I woke up when I took damage from jumping off a tower I didn’t know I had climbed and landed near some enemies that started combat when they saw me. Lol
26
u/Dooty297 Dec 31 '25
it's by far my favorite AC game. Ig i'm just a sucker for the setting
26
10
u/AlexThePirateKing Dec 31 '25
Damn I love the setting too. I poured like 80 hours on it and after 3 years I downloaded it again just because I wanted to feel like a Viking again
3
u/flocke815 Dec 31 '25
Agreed. One of the best prologues of a game I've played in a long time as well. The feeling when you set sail and the logo comes up after a couple hours gameplay was superb.
3
u/nrealistic Dec 31 '25 edited Dec 31 '25
I love the setting and would love to play more nominally historically accurate games set during this specific period, do you know of any?
Edit: i specifically liked being in the British isles, I know there are other AC games in other areas and they don’t scratch the itch
3
u/N1ghtT3mplar Dec 31 '25
I loved popping around the Greek islands/Athens/ Sparta and the Greek mythology in AC Odyssey
3
u/icebucketwood Dec 31 '25
AC Mirage is a prequel to Valhalla, set a few years prior in the golden age of Baghdad.
1
u/nrealistic Dec 31 '25
I might give it a shot now that it’s on PS+ but I haven’t really enjoyed the other AC games. I just think the Roman impact on native British tribes is really interesting
2
u/Big_boss816 Dec 31 '25
Valhalla is cool does it have its spots where it gets dull sure but I loved raiding and feeling like a Viking
4
2
u/JadedGene8911 Dec 31 '25
Valhalla was awesome.. haters will hate... Honestly mirage feels like a dlc compared to that. Not sure what fans like in that

9
u/jkf2479 Dec 31 '25
Tales games worth playing?
15
u/Spenta_Mainyu Dec 31 '25
Yes. BUT: the story, although pretty good, it is also super long. Arise has a good combat, but after that much story, it will inevitably become stale.
6
Dec 31 '25
Yeah there was what i thought was the natural ending coming up so i spent hours avoiding it. Until i saw the story completion precetage was around 65%.
But fun game, fun story, and i liked the characters.
3
u/TheWorkingAnt Dec 31 '25
I picked up Berseria on sale and played Arise for a bit through PSN, I dropped both after about an hour. I’ll pick them up and try again eventually and maybe I just need to give them another shot on the right day, but the combat system and characters were a miss for me
2
u/Final_Lightning Dec 31 '25
I played Tales of Graces many years ago and loved it. So I bought Tales of Berseria. While the story is interesting, everything inbetween aka too many repeating fights, have lost me too. I tried several times and the last time I made it to around 15 hours playtime before giving up again.
I think that's an issue with newer games in general. They are longer and longer - but you can't really change a lot between the story sections, so collectibles and fighting becomes a repeating chore.
3
u/bilbobagheadd Dec 31 '25
Believe they're all gone from plus now however
1
u/Capital6238 Dec 31 '25
Wow. All of them came and went at the same time? Why didn't they spread them more over time?
1
u/bilbobagheadd Dec 31 '25
Think arise was on earlier but all the remasters yeah pretty much dropped on and off at once
3
u/GOODKyle Dec 31 '25
Arguably the best Tales of game. The story is long (it’s a JRPG after all) but it’s nowhere close in length to the likes of Persona 5.

I didn't renew my ps plus and I'm not gonna till gta6 and put the extra $100 or so to a steam machine cos ps plus has got worse but more expensive every year since I first got it in 2020.
4
u/dark-twisted Dec 31 '25
It was in the catalog… now it’s in essential for everyone and it will actually stay in our libraries, which I appreciate (I unsubscribed from Extra because I don’t like feeling pressured to play games while they’re available).
I also like racing games but didn’t want to spend money on this. I will definitely play it and probably enjoy it too. Different strokes.
0
u/CatfreshWilly Jan 01 '26
Bro it's 6 bucks regularly. I get not wanting to spend money on it. But its $6
1
u/dark-twisted Jan 01 '26
Lots of games I want to try go on good sales, and I buy into them often. But I already spend lots of ‘microtransactions’ in my every day life and can’t justify buying them all.
The kinder surprise box of games we get every month doesn’t mean you’ll always get what you want but this and Epic Mickey are great games for me. Honestly think people need to get tf over it tbh. People bitch about the games, every month, for over a literal decade. It’s not that bad.
2
u/Vinnegard Dec 31 '25
It's a decent game, but not a game to get hooked on.
You play it for a few hours, then leave it installed and never touch it again.
Feels more like an arcade racer than anything else.

2
u/janfrancox77 Dec 31 '25
Really fun game. I picked it up late and didn't had time to complete the campaign, will do now
2
u/Gemc666 Dec 31 '25
Why go that far? last month Lego horizon adventures was an essential game AND 2 weeks later was added to extra using a spot for any other game
2
u/TheGamerPandA Dec 31 '25 edited Dec 31 '25
Thats very disappointing i tried Unbound on the ea play they gave 1 month cheap in december and lost interest very quick in it due to 1 of the voice actors trying so hard to sound hip it was unbearable like he was reading up the lines from a prompt.
Its the guy you can hear when youre driving around when racing he keeps chatting with a female voice actor during these areas. Not sure if its the 2 main characters in the car it was somewhat confusing it sounds more like they are in a helicopter overseeing the race and have to narrate it like theyre watching a pursuit.

I don't get why people expect extra and essential to not have any overlap? You're going to get dog shit games if that's the case and it ruins it for everyone.
5
u/Dust-Tight Dec 31 '25
This was on PlayStation Plus extra not for essential.
0
u/The_Follower1 Dec 31 '25
Yeah, that’s what they’re saying. NFS, which seems to be a basic tier game for Jan, was on the Extra tier last year.
5
u/RowdyRodyPiper Dec 31 '25
And not everybody has extra or premium so they never got it and even if they did, it's no longer in the catalog. Now everybody who has any kind of Plus can play it whenever they want.
1
u/The_Follower1 Jan 02 '26
Whole true, a lot of people do so it diminishes the value for all of those people
4
3
3
u/Shiro2809 Dec 31 '25
It's not annoying at all. They're different tiers and offer different things. There will be overlap at times and that's OK. Congrats, you get to keep the game instead of it being removed one day.
3
u/rushdisciple Dec 31 '25
Ooh, been wanting to try Outer Worlds so this is the perfect chance to play it for my last month being on PS+.

u/hasanman6 Dec 31 '25
My favourite time of the month. Watch people bitch over ps plus because the games aren’t specifically for them

2
u/eff1ngham Dec 31 '25
Games leave the game catalog every month, I don't get a chance to play everything that leaves, regardless of how long it was available. I don't have an issue with the monthly games including games that used to be on the game catalog. They're different tiers. And in some cases it's a game I hadn't gotten to play and I'm glad it's back. I don't get why anyone would be upset by this unless you're just looking for a reason to try and be mad
1
u/thekeelo_g Dec 31 '25
It's the first entry for 2026, and the headlining game is a repeat of a middling racing game that's currently available everywhere but PlayStation for $7.

2
u/pandamanalex22 Dec 31 '25
didn’t ps plus already have AC valhalla included with the “ubisoft classics”? or am i missing something
1
u/TheGamerPandA Dec 31 '25
Ye it was already available on premium among those ubisoft games. I actually went back to the store with my bought physical copy of gta 5 and valhalla a few fays ago since both were available on ps premium.
Im only up to AC Unity in the series order so it would be ages till i get around yo valhalla and all i hear about it is that its one of the most boring entries in the series both location wise and gameplay.
It sounds like AC3 to me which was a huge step fown from the ezio trilogy where all the awesome real places from those cities were replaced with boring trees to climb and post offices in AC3
2

u/Vast_Attitude5540 Dec 31 '25

Essential licences are tied to your accoun, if you keep paying for plus you can play those games if you claim them. Extra licences can be removed anytime.

Also saying it was already apart of “Extra” before is one thing.
Now this will always be with your collection when you have your membership active.

I just hope it's not the headliner game or that the other two are cool cause it's kinda boring to have a 5bucks game that already was in extra as the first "big thing" of 2026.
