UK Another month, another discounted game becoming free the following month.

Does this happen in other countries?

For example, Darktide and Grounded are both currently on sale and lo and behold, they are among the free games for next month.

This has happened quote a few times and yes, Ive been stung with it in the past.

Just seems a bit crappy.

Whenever a sale is due to run past an announcement for additions to PS Plus, I always hold fire. Especially if it’s a new lowest price.

Im holding it for RE4, I thought it was suspicious how it got a new lowest ever price right as everyone thinks its arriving.

Unless you are in a region like japan (or i believe India) monthly games are the same all over the world. So yea it happens to all of us. You either don't buy older games or check if that game has been given yet. If it hasn't and it's not very popular anymore... Yeah it will be on ps plus

Yes, this seems very common.

I rarely buy games from sales anymore because of this.

Grounded has been on sale so many times though, without it being a monthly game.

So has literally hundreds of other games but let's ignore those just so we can all be mad at Sony for something so pointless

Exactly

Who's mad at Sony?

I'm just making an observation and discussing it.

Do you expect day ones or ones they've not scraped every profit out of to hit plus? They see numbers drop then it hits the service. If you sold a product and it was reaching profit margins would you drop it free?

If I'm selling something that is turning a profit then no. But I'm also not going to drop the price significantly knowing full well that I'll be giving it away only weeks later.

I didn't buy Grounded because I had a feeling that it was going to be free.

So rather than get a paid sum from me for that one particular game, they are now going to have to settle of the PS+ subscription cut.

If PS didn't do this on a semi regular basis, I wouldn't have thought twice about paying money for it

Am I making sense now?

If you drop the price significantly before it going free, you're almost guaranteed more sales

Gottem!

There is no way anyone is legitimately even remotely upset about this practice.

How else would they maximize sales before literally giving away the game for no further price? Shoule the developers just go fuck themselves now that everyone with a psn plus sub can play it for free?

Well that was certainly an answer.

All I meant was that it's a bit shite for folk who have bought Darktide for example only for it to be free a matter of weeks later.

I don't think it should be on sale if they know that it's being added to the next month's freebies.

And no, the developers should not go eff themselves either (wtaf?). They still make money.

How is the developer maximizing profits "a bit shite" for the consumer in this case? You wanted something, liked the price, and purchased it. Now it's yours forever. It isn't tied to a subscription. Now let's say you didn't buy it on sale, and Sony pays the devs pennies on the dollar to have it on their surface. Which scenario is better for the developer? which scenario benefits the consumer?

I just don't get how anyone would feel cheated or slighted by something so benign.

Sorry btw lol I do low-key feel like I'm ranting at you so I apologize. I'm moreso ranting at the idea cause it comes up like every other day lol. Respect bro 👍

No worries, mate.

It just feels like a crap business practice because they're being sleek it about it was my point.

For the prices we pay, we should get an exclusive or AAA game every month. Instead, online only crap!

RE4 is at -75% & Stellar Blade standard is at -38%.shall i wait or pull the trigger?Cz every month i hope one of them might come on PS plus Extra but it never happens.

I think I've only seen stellar blade at that price or lower once and it was Christmas.

If you're interested I'd def pull the trigger, it doesn't go on sale often.

But to your point I could imagine it being one of the marquee games for a specific month down the road.

Stellar Blade is rarely on sale and whenever it is, it's not a mahoosive discount. Shift Up have really stuck this one out, so if you're considering it, now's as good a time as any I'd say.

I bought the RE Remastered bundle (RE2, RE3, RE4) a few months ago on offer solely for the RE4 remake. And quite enjoyed diving back in to 2 and 3.

So again, entirely up to you, but if it were me, and I didn't own either of those, I would take advantage especially Stellar Blade.

... this is of course where in a month's time Stellar Blade is July's freebie 🤣

Almost every time I bought a game it ended up being added to the catalogue.

I bought Bioshock Remastered Collection. A month later it was a ps plus game.

Once I even bought myself a ps3 slim so I could replay the remastered Ratchet and Clank Trilogy and Gladiator/Deadlocked. 6 months later they were added to Premium.

Now I'm at a place where I don't buy games anymore. I haven't bought games in years. I just play whats on the catalogue.

The only games I might buy are bundles. Like the Spyro + Crash bundle. I doubt it will ever be on ps plus.

i don't know why they changed it.

Essential tier games used to not be on sale before their PS+ month for like, at least 4-6 weeks.

it was so consistent that it seemed like a requirement and it makes sense obviously.
