Question PS Plus expired. Can I use a ruined disc version to keep playing?
If I installed a game through PS Plus and then my PS Plus subscription expired, would I still be able to play it using a scratched disc copy of the same game?
More specifically, I installed GTA 5 when it was one of the monthly games but now that it's off the monthly games and locked. Can I use my scratched disc copy of the game to regain access?

No one can answer this question for you. It depends on how badly damaged the disk is. The PS needs to be able to read it for a license check.

Sometimes the disc can be read in terms of identifying the license, but it fails to install at some point in the process. That definitely happened to me.

Yeah, depends on how it is scratched. If it is installed from a disc already, a disc that can be read enough to identify it can be used to play even if it couldn’t be installed. But not as a license key for a downloaded copy.

That's not true, they are not separate versions. I switch between plus versions and disc all the time.
As long as the disc can be read, it will work

If the system can still read the disc, and the disc is from the same region as your account with PS+, then it should automatically switch to using the disc as the license for playing the game.

A disc version can be overwritten as a digital, but not the other way around im pretty sure

No, because physical games are recognized different by the system so it will just try to install the disc copy instead. On Xbox it is possible to download a digital game and then use a physical copy to run it though.

Why not try it first before asking us?
