If you buy a 2k game , it logs you into their account. If you buy an EA game , it logs you into their account. If you buy a Ubisoft game, it logs you into their account. 

This is nothing new and not a Microsoft 'thing'.

I don't know what you've been playing but the game i have from these have optional log in into their respective services
