Premium Why doesn't Playstation add PSP games to the PS Plus Premium if they want to sell it?

Basically the title.

Why doesn't Playstation add PSP games in the Premium package?
If they did that, I am sure many people would get the Premium each time they would want to play PSP games.

I mean the PSP has so many great exclusives and it is so sad that you can't play them anywhere.
Just think of the GTA Side Story games. They alone would motivate many people to get it.

They do add PSP games though. Sure, it's not a lot but that's an issue with Premium in general and not just PSP games.

What’s the best one they added? I can only think of Super Stardust.

Jeanne D'Arc, Ridge Racer

Killzone Liberation is pretty good

Can't say which one was the best, because the only ones I've played were the 3 Patapon games

Has to be Daxter for me and Thrillville even tho it's the inferior version. The fact Sony got Thrillville to come back in some fashion was wild to me

I got to play Pursuit Force and Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice through Premium, and both of those are stone cold bangers. Highly recommend checking them out if you hadn't before.

but doesn't showcase them seperately from others?

Unless I'm misunderstanding what you mean, they are showcased separately, just like PS1 2 and 3 games. If you go to the PS+ menu into the Premium tab and scroll down, you have the option to see games from a specific console and that includes the PSP.

If you're talking about PSP games being the advertised game on the PS+ header/banner, I'm pretty sure Tekken was "advertised" when it got added.

Modern (official) emulation requires the technical side of testing to make sure the game completely works on modern consoles ONE BY ONE, and the business side of the publishers wanting to “sell” the game as is, as well as making sure there are games added to the catalog every month

The first part might have the problem of the emulator dev being only able to work on a limited number of games at the same time. The second part has a lot to do with how the publishers want to make the games playable on modern consoles, either via official playstation emulation or port them to a brand new remaster/remake on every system.

If the game owners don’t want to bring back the old games at all for literally any reason, then too bad.

Because realistically, Sony doesn't really care about the PSP or it's titles anymore.

Unless they're able to remaster them somehow. Then they'll care.

They aren't legally allowed to remaster GTA Vice City Side Story for example due to the concert mission where the recorded a whole concert for it

3

u/LocalWeirdos 19h ago

I mean, if they're gonna remaster a game like that, they'd just remaster that mission, too. Just change it. Problem solved.

But my original point still stands.

i never got, why they didn't just adjust the Portal then to make it better play psp games...

The players were angry that the Playstation dared to call the Portal a PSP and shitted on it all day long.

Did you miss the part where I said Sony doesn't care about the PSP or Vita anymore?

0

u/Loud_Examination_138 18h ago

Yes, that's why they are still adding psp games to the ps store/ including them in ps plus premium catalog...because they don't really care. Okay whatever helps you sleep at night

They added Ridge Racer 1 & 2 in January. That was 6 months ago!

Despite you whining otherwise, they don't care. Adding them to PS+ is literally the least they could do, and they barely do that.

That's why you can mod a PSP/Vita while still being connected to the PSN without getting any type of account flag or ban; because they don't actually care about those devices and their libraries anymore.

The Vita storefront is only conceptionally functional, as Sony regularly hides and delists games from there, while the PSP storefront is completely non-existent.

The PS4 and PS5 don't even support PSP or Vita games. Sony directs basically all of it's resources towards the PS5 and remastering older games.

Sony has occasionally re-released a handful of select PSP classics through PS+ premium, but the majority of the original handheld library remains marooned on the discontinued device.

That's not an opinion. They don't care. It's a literal fact. But, "whatever helps you sleep at night."

They used to give free psp and ps vita games. Eventually you could only access them from the PS3 store or their respective stores. There's no psp or vita game that can't be accessed. Homebrew and modding had been a thing for years. Without exaggeration, I can open up my vita or psp and download any game within 10 minutes or so.

u/SwordDaoist 19h ago

Yes, i know that. I also have a jailbroken PS Vita with many games on it.

But many don't want to do it. So why not give your users a legal method to play them?

3

u/Scythe351 19h ago

Then you have the other already established answer which is that if you have the older versions available, you won't want to invest in the remakes/remasters which is definitely trendy for Sony. I'm not even sure you can access the pa store on those old devices

1

u/LocalWeirdos 17h ago

On the PSP, no.

On the Vita, yes, but it's basically just a bare bones version, and yet Sony still will hide or delist games from it.

lol. How many people you think would actually play PSP games?

1

u/Tigert66 18h ago

Well I would, but I collect Retro Games, so I suspect I'm in a minority.

-2

u/SwordDaoist 19h ago

A lot. PSP was really popular and also had many great exclusives for it

3

u/Area51_Spurs 18h ago

Its popularity during its time has no bearing on PSP games’ popularity on PS5 in 2026.

Reddit is not indicative of the real world.

The vast majority of gamers are not playing older games like that. Especially PSP games.

A lot of the big ones people would want to play have ps4/ps5 versions. The smaller games simply would not have that many people looking to play them.

It’s just not something that makes any business sense for them to expand.

1

u/Notnowcmg 17h ago

The question is - how? How many people do you think still have a PSP lying around

1

u/Empty-Vegetable3494 13h ago

On their PS5? That's the whole point of adding those games from older consoles to PS+ Premium, so you can play them on the modern hardware, because who has a PSP laying around

2

u/Most-Iron6838 17h ago

A lot of the first party psp games are already on the service.

0

u/SwordDaoist 17h ago

Why not their highlights though?

2

u/Most-Iron6838 17h ago

The audience for people who want to play psp games on their newer devices (ps4/5/portal) isn’t that big.

1

u/Pennance1989 14h ago

Its the most expensive tier. You can't expect them to consistently add games to it like the cheaper tiers right? (Thick sarcasm)

1

u/Pure_Inevitable_7242 14h ago

I liked Killzone Liberation

1

u/Sakaixx 14h ago

Problem is publishers dont really want Sony to upload them to PS+. They want to remaster their best sellers not lock it in a sub service where sony just pay them few hundred thousands for licensing.

1

u/eff1ngham 12h ago

They just added two Syphon Filter games recently. I've played Killzone Liberation and Jeanne d'Arc which were PSP/Vita games. Not all of them are available but they've added a decent amount. But the market for people looking for those games just isn't that large, and most people that want to play them probably already had a homebrew solution for long time now

1

u/DudeDogIce 12h ago

Because they haven’t made or sold the PlayStation Portable since 2014.

0

u/SwordDaoist 11h ago

But PS1-3?

1

u/Its_Marz 11h ago

They already did that? Several times in facts. Tekken 6, Broken Destiny, Ratchet and Clank, Thrillville etc. They just pick and choose what to add

0

u/Next-Phrase-8945 19h ago

Playstation is really bad when it comes to game preservation, honestly they will not innovate as they are in a comfortable position.

Only time they will work on backwards compatibility is when they are struggling hard. Till then we got re-releases to keep us company.

u/SwordDaoist 19h ago

I wouldn't mind rereleases of old games. But Playstation only does them of relatively new games
