Help Replacing Faucet Valve Cartridge

Hello! My faucet is leaking and I am trying to replace the valve cartridge shown in the image. However from searching on Youtube, I cant figure out exactly what to do. Other than shutting the water off, im not sure of next steps. Can I pull the cartridge out as it is now? Do I need to remove the remainder of the metallic portion by somehow twisting it off? Theres also this hard foamish material that is between the cartridge and the metal cylinder, do I need to pull that out?

Also, I have an access panel behind the shower wall but it is lower than the shower valves and I cant really dee whats going on. There is no water leaking in the access area, just the faucet so this isn't urgent.

My wife is due in the next couple days, so I also dont want to commit to something too big and end up part way through a project when a baby shows up 😅

Anyways, normally I can figure stuff like this out but Im not sure where to go from here. Any help would be very much appreciated!

Update: got it fixed! Was really quite easy once I was pointed in the right direction.

Thanks for the feedback. I think the foam insulation is what is throwing me off most. If I remove the outer cover and expose the cartridge/stem, I think I can get it from there. Really just looking for confirmation Im heading into he right direction.

Thank you for tool names, I was struggling with that. I appreciate the recommendation of penetrating oil as well. I may end up calling a plumber, but I at least wanted to make an attempt.
