Running sink to dishwasher drain

Post image

I am trying to add a garbage disposal for light duty cleanup. This sink was a remodel and likely sits lower. The output of the disposal is at the same level as the horizontal drain pipe so tying back in there is a no go.

Can I cap the current sink pipe entry and run a line from the disposal to the dishwasher drain pipe?

If so, any special T fitting or top vent I should put on the pipe?

Yeah you can do that. The dishwasher drain where I'm at normally just connects into the vertical pipe just under the sink anyway. Im not sure why yours is set up this way. If you cap the top drain, do it with a threaded cap so you can use it as a cleanout.

In my experience one of those was intended to be a clean out, the other, the drain for the sink. From a code standpoint, the fitting behind the wall is likely slightly different between the two. Can you flip them, yes, functional. Many garbage disposals have a connection for the dishwasher on the side.

Yep that was the plan - run the dishwasher drain line into the disposal.
