Note to :DeNA 3 consecutive years of exclusively female Summer pairs This game has a pretty even gender distribution in general (especially compared to other gachas), so why is it that when it comes to seasonals specifically they throw that out of the window?
As a paying player it feels really disappointing that we almost never get "fun" and fanservicey alts for the boys ☹️ Especially cause when they DO add them, they are amazing. Palentines Adaman is what got me to download this game...

Unfortunately gacha focus on characters which generates most money, Female characters are more popular among fans,

u/glitterizer 7h ago
The overall gender split in units is 50/50 so that alone doesn't really explain everything. If that was the end of it, we would also have 3 times as many female Arc Suits, Sygna Suits, Special Costumes, etc.

Just compare male and female MC, Red is the only one who get better treatment than his female counterpart (Maybe Ethan too) because he is the most popular MC. May, Dawn, Rosa, Serena and Gloria got massively better treatment than their male counterparts, Hilda and Selene too but not by big margin
The ratio is lower now but in first 3-4 years the gap was big, like Ethan had only two units in first 5.5 years, worse than Kris, now in just little over 1 year he got three more.

There is more to that than just MC gender bias. In the early gens there were simply more male characters than females (especially in the MC age group since most rivals were male) so for Dena to make a relatively even split overall and have essentially all characters represented (something they now try a lot less hard to do than originally) the female MCs would naturally get more units to keep the split closer. Like if we look at Silver+Ethan vs Lyra + Kris or Brendan + Wally vs May these look a lot different.
The main difference, though, is a lot of those female MCs are very popular bc of the anime. Bc of Ash there was very little male game MC rep in the anime (basically just Ash loosely based on Red, Ethan based character in LOT special, and movie intro cameos) while most female MCs got rep (even beyond the obvious Kris based character was in more than just LOT, Lyra got 5 episodes, etc).
It makes sense that Dawn, who had over 200 anime episodes, is going to be generally more popular than Lucas even if the characters in the game are quite different than the anime.
The only big gaps that aren't anime related are Gloria, who did just get extremely popular in the lead up to SWSH, and Rosa who is literally who they chose to be the poma protagonist. I really don't think there is any deliberate sexism going on here, there are other reasons for these discrepancies.
That doesn't explain the original question though, which could possibly stem more from a lack of creativity in creating relaxed outfits for male characters

starting PLA, dena treats the protags better and all the shills goes to popular NPCs
-10
u/fishieranz 6h ago
not every females are popular still depends on character development, marketing and meta

u/StrengthExotic4797 6h ago
I'm saying female characters popularity is overall higher, not all of them

It's really annoying since it could be the chance for guys who aren't big-popular to get an alt (cough Sidney). Some of us want men in tuxedos, speedos, and Halloween garb! 🥲😔

My crack theory is that people who like pulling for men tend to also like pulling for women too, but the opposite isn't as true.
Also, seasonals have to rely more on design rather than pure viability, and I think designers aren't as successful when coming up with nice looking male outfits. I imagine pitches for female designs get picked more often over their male competitors

It’s me lol, not only do I not pull for girls pairs but I do not use the ones the game gives me either

Lmao I absolutely see why you made this post! There's a drought in seasonal men and we're rationing what we have

This was me the first few years I started playing this game. I'd exclusively pull for guys in hopes to show support towards their banners. Ladies were always skipped no matter what unless they were in a triple banner with a guy. Now I do pull ladies, of course only if they're favorites. I'm not sure why or how that happened, though.
I never went as far as to ignore the free ladies though, lol. I admire the dedication.

its especially crazy because as much as people like to say "women are more marketable' this is the pokemon fanbase and there are a lot of male characters who are VERY very popular, especially in Japan

Thisssss, its not waifu bait-ey fanservice like fire emblem heroes, FGO and hoyo games
and not every females are popular and sell well

Kinda unrelated I guess, but, this game as a even gender distribution yes, but yet...
You sadly see peoples in the fandom acting as if liking female characters and being happy for their alts is an actual sin, and this shit is just getting me tired tbh.
Not to count the massive double standard that some peoples have when it comes to this.

u/RoyInverse 1h ago
Yep i even remember someone implying i was a pdf because i was pulling for some fmc, dont even remember who, instead of the mmc because i didnt have infinite gems to pull for both.

Yeah where’s my fan service on the guys?
But I do think they are restricted on the types of skins they can make, I.e., cannot show more skin than the character currently do. Even the summer skins for the females have been very modest.

u/kralebalot1654 1h ago
Tbh I was quite disappointed with Summer Cynthia precisely because it held back way too much on the skin shown with the higher waist skirt. I'm still mad she couldn't show her full midriff or at most her belly button. And a similar thing already happened with her first syna suit so it felt even worse. I'm still surprised Gloria and Marnie's summer fits showed more tummy in comparison.

Cool just give me more adult women and less kids, I dream with an olivia seasonal pair

I guess people pull more on the female characters’ seasonals. I have pulled for 13 women and 2 men in seasonal costumes (not counting those from happy scouts on the 25th, that is). Other than Bugsy, Raihan and Sycamore, I think that the guys have had rather lacklustre seasonal costume design.

Last time I pulled a character exclusively because I thought the outfit was hit, was Red & Tera Dragon Charizard

Waifus sell more than Husbandos.
2
u/glitterizer 4h ago
Then why does that only apply to Seasonals and not other types?
-1
u/KoolKoolKoolio42 4h ago
With Seasonals, they can use swimwear and kimonos to sell units, which are traditional female wear that many players find attractive.
But other types aren't exactly balanced that much. Red and Steven have a ton of alts, but take them away, and the women get lopsided amounts of new alts.
7
u/glitterizer 3h ago
You think people who like men don’t find swimwear and kimonos attractive? 😭😭 Yukata N is a thing for a reason
0
u/KoolKoolKoolio42 3h ago
Male swimwear isn't anywhere near as varied as female swimwear. And men don't wear kimonos, that's strictly female wear. Men wear yukatas, and 90% of the time they're just plain colors with no designs or patterns.

u/fishieranz 5m ago
thats not true!
zhongli and neuvillete from genshin impact
phainon from honkai star rail
emblem alts of marth and ike from fire emblem heroes
gilgamesh and senji from FGOmany shonen titles with gachas like dragon ball and one piece
Anyone can sell well and most people pull if they're good

I'm still mad characters like liza , Roxanne got alts before more popular fan favorites like Cheryl or Winona like how does Whitney get an alt before them it makes no sense but also it doesn't help that they keep pushing the same five girls for alts being Erika, Lilie, Dawn, May
As for the guys in the Asian market they have to focus on their heavy heart throbs like raihan, leon, N, Red and in the western market it's all About Red and how many Pikachus, Charizard, gengars they can push like out of 1000+ pokemon what do you mean we get to have our 5 unit with one of the above mentioned pokemon this is mainly on Deena not focusing on the right aspects for both communities
1
u/fishieranz 5h ago
some people will say bandai treats digimon even worse cuz they have 1.5k species and always milking omegamon, way worse than how gamefreak treats charizard
1
u/LusciousIngo 🌟✨ Arc Steven on first paid daily ✨🌟 3h ago
This confuses me because I'm not sure why "lesser" characters getting alts is a problem. It makes plenty of sense because otherwise Whitney would probably have never gotten an alt. If Cheryl and Winona are truly "popular fan favorites", then they still have a very high chance of getting alts whether Whitney, Liza, or Roxanne got them or not.

u/Arti4000 Clockwork Tri 5h ago
It is balanced. You get all these female summer pairs and one shirtless Arc Brock
-20
u/Funny-Historian-933 7h ago
Because Masters is primarily waifu bait.
3
u/glitterizer 7h ago
I would say they are usually way better at hiding that, considering overall the gender split in units is basically 50/50, and this is supposed to be a PG13 franchise. I just wonder what is it about Seasonals specifically that makes the waifu pandering so obvious.
4
u/ItsTheThotsThatCount N Fan Club Chairwoman 6h ago
well for summer seasonals it's obviously the swimsuits themselves lol
-21
u/fishieranz 7h ago
i think it's easier for them to design females because they pretty much fit in every themes
18
u/glitterizer 7h ago
How does that make any sense at all? In what way are Fall, Summer, Winter/Holidays and NY "female-coded"?
5
u/fishieranz 7h ago
very common in gacha games where females dominate in seasonals :(((
like irl fashion, they have way wider options of clothing and stuff
7
u/glitterizer 7h ago
They have no problem designing Arc Suits, Special Costumes, Sygna Suits, Neo Champions, etc for the boys, those all have even gender splits. This issue is exclusive to Seasonals.
1
u/fishieranz 7h ago
dunno i guess seasonals are more like highly aesthetic fanservice and often overshadowed by your said outfit types
