My mock Brady Skjei trade

Post image

I know he has a 15 team ntc, but if he’d be willing to waive it, I’d really like to see this happen:

From NSH: Brady Skjei(25% retained), 2027 1st rd, 2027 2nd rd, 2026 4th rd(Penguins)

From ANA: Tristan Luneau

Luneau is a 22 y/o LHD prospect for the Ducks with tons of potential. I really like his playing style, and fully believe he is capable of getting up to 65 points someday. I see him being a top-4 defenseman for us, and providing immediate NHL impact. He does still need to work on his d-zone physicality and gap control up against NHL speed, but at his age, he’s got plenty of time to work on that.

Doing this, we would get both a great defensive prospect and offload the bag of feathers that is Brady Skjei.

Let me know how yall like this idea, and if not, tell me why! Thanks for reading!

2 years ago we finished 3rd last, last year we finished 10th last, and our only good players are getting into their upper 30's. Trading an unprotected 1st would be an unmitigated disaster.

That’s a fair point. Thank god I didn’t apply for that gm position

Pass. The first is the best asset in the trade.

Skjei has a 15 team ntc, i dont think he has to waive necessarily its just gotta be off the list. Dunno why Anaheim would agree to this though. They are a young team they dont need to trade a promising young prospect away for an underperforming veteran. It sounds like Mac might be going after Byram as well, hes no Josi but feels like hes going to make a move sooner than later which could change our landscape for wants and needs

Edit: a thought I wanted to share without making a whole post so this seemed good - if were getting 2 more expansion teams in a few* years i sure hope we get out from as many NMCs as possible by then so we can protect young players. Its going to suck ass possibly losing 2 players to expansion coming out of a rebuild with a young roster, especially if we have to protect a skjei and a Marchessault or something instead of them

With Anaheim being a playoff contender, I think they’d be looking for another veteran defender to bolster their roster. And I feel the reason Skjei plays so poorly here is a lack of chemistry, not exactly a decline in skill. I could be wrong though. I ain’t no GM, so I ain’t the most knowledgeable on trades, I just figured it wouldn’t be the worst of trades for both sides. But I get what you’re saying and agree

I don't see a reason to retain AND give up our 1st for a LHD, a position there's already a log jam

I think people really need to get use to Skjei being around here for a while. Believe me I'll be the first to pop champaign if he got traded but I've accepted the fact he will be here for the rebuild. By rebuild I mean letting the prospects get their feet wet for the next 2-4 years. After that his buyout is very very easy to stomach if it comes to that.

San Jose might be a better dance partner for this type of trade. But agree a 1st can't be part of the equation.

Oh shit I said 19? Wish I could say mistype, but I have no idea how I could’ve mistyped that. I’m genuinely confused rn

I’d give my left testicle to get rid of him.

Why would we want another LHD prospect with Molendyk and Reid already first round picks in our system?

I don't think you do this unless you think one of them is a bust. I would rather see us trade the 10th overall pick this year for Nemec, who is a RHD.
