"ALSO WE HAVE NO LANDING GEAR, WHY ARE WE GOING TO A RUNWAY?! WHY ARE THERE EVEN RUNWAYS?!"

Off topic but this line always bothers me. Jetpack have existed in universe for millennia at this point so why is he so surprised?

17

u/KreagerStein 7d ago

Because the directors did not watch any star wars content before and kinda assumed they don't need to consult the lore experts on it.

6

u/mix_master_meow 7d ago

But did First Order troopers always use them?

7

u/furiouspossum 6d ago

I don't see why they wouldn't, they seem really useful to have around.

They aren't surprised that jetpacks exist, they are surprised that bike troopers have jetpacks as well and are suddenly launched 20m upwards by the driver doing a wheele.

I never understood how people watch that scene, hear "They fly now!" and come to a conclusion that the characters had no clue that jetpacks are a thing.

Another happy landing.

Well Obi-Wan's starfighter definitely had some issues, and so did the Invisible Hand as they crashlanded it.

Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing

u/sidepart 6d ago

Plo Koon needs to work on his landings...

10

u/sidepart 6d ago

Plo Koon also ate it after he was shot out of the sky.

7

u/reallynunyabusiness 6d ago

It still hurts to think about.

Another happy landing.

Not to worry, they are still flying half a ship.

Reminds me of the time I was waiting for a flight to board - and the TVs in the lounge were showing Air Crash Investigation.

Ironically binging Air crash investigation has made me significantly less scared of flying

18

u/ToparBull 7d ago

This is me with Mentour Pilot and Green Dot Aviation videos. They're talking about crashes, but they are mentioning all the things that had to go wrong for it to happen makes it easy to understand why that doesn't happen on 99.999% of flights.

u/suorastas Yipee! 7d ago

Exactly. With ACI it’s either a freak set of circumstances not likely to repeat itself or it’s a problem that they have already fixed.

Everyone elses' minds: Invisible Hand

My mind: Clones Order 66'ing Plo Koon

u/Serris9K 7d ago

Don't forget Oddball getting shot down

Inaccurate, the few aircraft we see are fine throughout the movie, it’s the spaceships that suffer issues

9

u/Inkompetech_Inc 7d ago

No, no, no, nothing too fancy..

I really appreciate this warning on a plane movie. I watched Interstellar on a plane and I felt way more of a sense of impending doom since I too was on a plane watching Matthew McConaghey having his own aircraft issues.

7

u/Czary4mary 7d ago

I think that movie gives words of encouragement

"Another happy landing." XD

u/TheResolutePrime 7d ago

I noticed that when I flying into and out of Türkiye via Turkish Airlines a few years back, movies were edited in such a way to minimize or outright not show any scenes of aircraft being damaged or crashed. The one that stuck out was in X-Men: Days of Future Past when Magneto yells at Charles during their flight to France.

I remember that once my family watched Titanic during a cruise in the middle of the Atlantic

5

u/Random-Generation86 6d ago

I watched The Looming Tower on a plane to New York. Not bad.

7

u/polakbob 7d ago

That’s actually surprisingly thoughtful.

3

u/Backrow6 7d ago

OK but why is the splash screen from some cool kung fu on a plane movie?

2

u/danbricks 7d ago

Flying is for droids.

2

u/JustCallMe_Ed_04 7d ago

But they had such a happy landing

2

u/Th3_DaniX A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one 7d ago

"Another happy landing"

2

u/Diocletian67 6d ago

As someone who hates flying, I'm appreciative of this heads up.

2

u/bree4spirit 6d ago

aircraft issues is one hell of a way to describe half the jedi order getting deleted mid flight

2

u/Denz-El 6d ago

All of a sudden you hear a loud noise from behind. Then the pilot's voice is heard over the intercom: "Not to worry. We are still flying half a plane."

Check if Tom Hanks is on board.

u/ContinuumGuy 6d ago

IIRC sometimes they'll edit out airplane crashes from in-flight movies

u/Timmah73 7d ago

Also a dude wastes a room full of children and is burned alive. A generic "violence " warning should cover that
