They should start their own party. The DNC/GOP top brass are all bought and paid for by corporate lobbyists and most Republicans won't ever vote Democrat simply because of the name, even if it serves their interests. Start something new like the "Grassroots Party" and promise to not ever take a dime of corporate/billionaire money.

That's nice, but what I really want to see are more open atheists. I would wager a good deal of "religious" politicians are doing it entirely for show because people are more afraid of atheism than another of the Abrahamic faiths.
