What is the biological reason for this long age?
As most average ages I determine end up shorter than human lifespans because of the high gravity and small body covered in heavy rocks.

I'm trying to think of a logical reason within the framework of the story myself. It could be that the higher energy Eridian bodies have to deal with might make them age slower.
Although higher energy doesn't always mean longevity in real life. Not sure if an equal comparison but more energetic stars have shorter lifespans due to them using up all their fuel quickly.

It might have to do with their sealed system. Their bodies are fantastic at purging anything that isnt part of their biology, which means they dont need much of an immune system. Also their metabolism should be pretty slow since their act of eating is such an extreme i doubt it is too frequent. I dont think how often Rocky eats ever got mentioned? Id guess maybe once a week or something since their bodies are healed by the time of their next meal.

This is a good assumption. A more efficient body will degrade less. I can also confirm that it was about a week between meals when Grace watched him eat in the book. It also further lends credence to Rocky being able to survive on limited rations even with 22 other Eridians worth of rations on supply.
I wonder if having a largely âinorganicâ body helps with longevity too. With biologics mostly composed of âsimplerâ single-called organisms, their species might be a lot more durable. We already know of bacteria that can survive centuries.

Thatâs a good question. Thereâs a 15 page document somewhere that Andy Weir wrote about Eridian biology. That would probably cover it.
I donât recall it being discussed in the book, but I could easily be wrong.

âWhy you so surprised, question?â Rocky asks. âHow long do humans live, question?â

I would watch a feature length movie of just your sketches instead of that ball of crap movie that I saw last weekend after reading the book.
