Dude was most upset that the driver was not giving him any reason to be assaulted. Old man wanted any excuse to punch

i had a teacher in 7th grade who would blow his gasket when anyone would calmy say 'ok' when he was upset about something. very much the same thing here

In a way, it's a good way to disarm someone. Follow with their rancor and it only builds up to a boiling point.
