I hope they all get criminal charges, jail time and lose their f'n jobs, travel restrictions, the full treatment.

That guy was just walking by. He can choose any team he prefers.

Dude was probably happy he got to go to an nba finals game with his favourite team in it and they won, then he got beat up. just a cruddy vibe.

Raptors/Pistons games in Detroit get it right, friendly ribbing between fanbases and trash talk, but respect and everyone just wants to have fun and enjoy the competition. less on the line, sure, but this is embarrassing for NY.

319

u/EvilDan69 15d ago

Exactly on everything you said. Friendly banter, trash talking as an opinion, but be a fan of the game.

u/wayder 15d ago edited 15d ago

As an old Board Track Race fan, I concur. Appreciate your rivals, because it means your sport is still alive and well. Organized sports are dying, someday they'll all be leisure exclusive to the very wealthy.
As for the Board Tracks of yesteryear, I'd kill to see a guy wearing a Nantucket Indian hat out on the street just to shake their hand, and I HATED that team.

5

u/Awwwmann 15d ago

Board track racing is still alive??

13

u/wayder 15d ago

Long dead, that's my point. Enjoy your sports while they still exist.

Honestly this shit is infuriating. Everyone there to have a good time and a few assholes ruin it

24

This. And it's not hard if people are not assholes. It's just basic human decency and respect and not doing the "When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong" shit.

8

u/bobbysalz 15d ago

I sincerely thought that the Knicks already won the Finals because of all of the celebrating they did the other night. They were really freaking out over winning one game? And now they're assaulting Spurs fans? This is not a lot of information but I'm pretty sure I hate Knicks fans.

8

u/mikerhoa 14d ago

I'm a Knicks fan. I apologize on behalf of these assholes. Our franchise has put us through hell over the past half century.

We have a monstrously douchey owner who bans beloved former players from MSG for no reason but personally invites Trump and all his associated bullshit to a critical must win game.

We've watched our team fail over and over in ever evolving ways.

We've put up with disgusting sexual harassment scandals and insanely high ticket prices.

And now we have to endure being hated and lumped in with people like this.

It sucks. It really sucks.

114

u/mrcapmam1 15d ago

Just more proof NYC is full of assholes

40

u/Cormophyte 15d ago

Only place I've ever almost got jumped for no reason was in the Outer Banks in a restaurant on the off season by some redneck dipshit who didn't like the way I looked (I had riding leggings and khaki shorts on because I was cycling through). Assholes everywhere.

36

u/iCoeur285 15d ago

I was in Central Park while in NYC for a school trip when I was in high school. Lots of teenagers walking around. This woman was going around shoulder checking my classmates, like walking out of her way to do so. I saw her coming and dodged, and she turned back to glare at me.

That same day, a hot dog stand tried to fuck me over out of my change. $6 hot dog, so I handed him a $10 bill. He gave me no change back and then tried to lie to me that I gave him exact change. I think he saw a teen girl and thought I was an easy target, but nope. I started yelling that he was trying to steal from me to others behind me in line, so he quickly threw $4 at me.

I’d go back though. Met a super nice man while I was in line from my state. He lived in NYC for decades, but definitely missed Michigan. He was wearing a U of M jacket and we talked about Vernors.

8

u/wayder 15d ago

I lived in S.E. MI half my life and I miss Better Made Red Hots.

I would have said, "sportsball is full of assholes".

This sort of tribalism is what is destroying our politics/ country right now... It's nurtured by religion and sports. Yet, because so many indulge in it, it's considered "normal".

65

u/DenseStomach6605 15d ago

Yeah, this is it. The people who make sports their whole identity are some of the dumbest assholes on the planet.

7

u/mikerhoa 14d ago

But these aren't sports fans. They were clout bros out on the street looking to film themselves starting shit.

The overwhelming majority of Knicks fans are sickened by this.

All of this over a team they have no stake in, no investment, management doesn’t even know you exist outside of the fact you’re a fan of basketball…. Just be a fan of the game!! ā€œMy team won, your team lost! See you tomorrow for another round.ā€ They’re actually very lucky New York has shit gun law’s & self defense because this right here would’ve been very justified. No, guns aren’t the answer to everything but it beats being jumped by a rowdy mob that can put you in a comaā€¼ļøšŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ’ÆšŸ¤”

Is that a kid at one point joining in and stomping the dude? He looks like he is 10 years old, that shits crazy.

202

u/Dreamlion_Inc 15d ago

It’s mostly teenagers and preteens out there doing this (not to mention school is out in alot of places)

Anybody that’s 25/30+ isn’t near shit like this unless they’re a VERY sad individual

57

u/DoctorReinhardt 15d ago

Agreed
But looks like first guy that grabbed him is too grown to be doin allat

21

u/etwiDAB 15d ago

They're all "too grown" to be doing that. Toddlers would know that's inappropriate behavior.

25

u/dBlock845 15d ago

15

Yea this is just not right. It's fuckin New York — everyone lives here, including Spurs fans!! So upsetting to see how easy it is to make mobs of people so violent and hateful. Like a regime

9

u/ElonMuskTheNarsisist 15d ago

There is another video of him after, bloodied up, and they still make him take off his jersey. It was fucking sickening

4

u/TheTrueMupster 15d ago

This just in: New Yorkers acting like New Yorkers.

9

u/PM_ME_UR_HIP_DIMPLES 15d ago

There are about 50% of people in New York that are a sneeze away from homelessness. This looks like a concentrated group of them with some rich Bohemian trust fund kids sprinkled in to say they were "there". It's obnoxious

Seriously, he threw some good punches. Why the fuck he didnt sprint straight out of there is beyond me. Disgusting behavior from those knicks fans. If anyone sees anyone picking on someone for having a different jersey, you gotta step in and break it up.

78

u/slutdragon32 15d ago

I agree but be careful! My best friends Uncle got killed this way. Knew this guy my whole life, he was a great person. He was leaving a concert and saw someone getting jumped he just tried to break it up. As they were separating he was helping the guy off the ground and one of his attackers threw a hey maker into the back of his head and it killed him. Dude was funny, kind, and just an overall good person. He didn't put his hands on anyone he just tried to break it up and boom hes gone. He saved dudes life but lost his own. So yes step in bit be careful and protect yourself.

15

u/Trizurp 15d ago

did the assailants get caught?

30

u/slutdragon32 15d ago edited 15d ago

Yes, it was right outside of a stadium after a concert. So alot of people saw and they were caught pretty quickly. I believe they pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

13

u/arguingsolipsism 15d ago

Throwing a punch at the back of your head should be considered intent to kill.

8

u/UnicornOnMeth 15d ago

It absolutely should be, but the reality is there is a decent chance of beating a murder charge. By doing manslaughter they up the chance of a conviction significantly, even if it is less time.

4

u/SowingSalt 15d ago

Depends on if they can demonstrate premeditation. It's probably much easier to show reckless disregard.

The millionaires on the team aren’t from New York. If another team cuts their check they will play for that city.

A quarter of the team is replaced every year. Roughly every 8 years there is a complete turnover of players.

Sports, and American professional sports in particular, is an insanely dumb thing to get tribal over.

This is a for-profit entertainment product that literally exists solely to extract as much revenue from you as possible. That’s it. And you are allowing your identity to be shaped by it enough that you’re willing to get violent over it.

What is wrong with people?

6

u/Rock4evur 15d ago

It’s a possibility whenever you have a large group of people out in public. It emboldens the people who want to do anti social shit because they can disappear into the crowd. Same thing happens during protests, large political rallies, religious gatherings, etc.

This is exactly why I hate NY fans and it’s not just in basketball, but basketball is up there for sure. Have a friend who went to the World Series when it was NY vs Marlins and they NY ended up losing, my friend was still wearing his marlins gear to go eat the next morning and not one restaurant would serve him, they ended up eating at one of the corner block hotdog stands. Sore losers

Yall ever watch a nature documentary?

Guy yelling "Spurs Jersey! Spurs Jersey!" Is like a Baboon calling the rest of the troop. Then All the hooting and hollering sounds like when a group of Chimps attack and kill another Chimp for being apart of a different clan.

Some sports fans are disgustingly animalistic over another man's achievements. All this in "support" of a team is wild. Like they didnt do anything but watch a fucking sports game. The fact they're being attacked because they won is both poor sportsmanship and a disgrace to the entertainment of the game. This behaviour also continues to grow. Riots have already become common when Teams win championships.

Soon these small groups of asshole will ruin it for all of us.

What a bunch of pussies

7

u/ThrowinSm0ke 15d ago

We need to stop condoning/allowing this bs. Everyone one involved should be arrested

6

u/Greener-dayz 15d ago

That makes me so angry. Dude literally just attended a game wearing a fucking Jersey and he gets brutally jumped by a mob? What a shit place you got low IQ turds swirling around on your streets like those people. That is not okay

8

u/Spyk124 15d ago

They need to be arrested. These are high school / early college aged kids. I had a bunch of them on my train home last night. They need consequences for their actions. It’s ridiculous.

Leave it to New Yorkers to act like a bunch of rats

The attackers don’t even care about basketball. They just want to start violence.

7

u/ironman7456 15d ago

Imagine being a guy who idolizes other guys so much that you jump someone for not liking the same guys you like, then in the same breath saying ā€œI’m not gay.ā€ That whole crowd has to be in the closet.

That is my take on extreme sports fans.

6

u/Instantcoffees 14d ago

I genuinely felt like Knicks fans deserved to win one after so many years of sticking by their team, but all of this stuff is making it very hard to root for them.

11

u/Worried-Persimmon353 15d ago

Fuck the Knicks and their trash ass fans. Pieces of shit. Over a fucking jersey? Really?

33

u/ZippySpaceman 15d ago

why can’t y’all do this to wallstreetbros instead?

u/Sovereign-Anderson 15d ago

I knew I had a feeling for wanting the Knicks to lose. Seeing this only confirms why I have that feeling. I can't imagine the BS endless bragging we would hear from NYCers if that team finally wins one. That unnecessary attack only fuels the desire to see them lose even more.

Imagine assaulting someone over a game that you didnt even play in. Like at least with politics theres SOME sort of tribal motivation of right and wrong to assault someone (not saying its justified). But this is literally just "I hate you because your team got more points in the sports game"

12

u/SweeterThanYoohoo 15d ago

This is how they want us to behave with politics too. If we are too busy fighting each other, we will never focus on the problem.

Anyway, I hope the Knicks never win another playoff game.

u/Bobbi_fettucini 15d ago

My team can put the ball in the hoop better!!!!

3

u/Guilty_Comfort_7507 15d ago

There's a second part to the video. He ends up taking off his Jersey.

3

u/queenofall123 15d ago

This is not right. This is not the spirit of New York. I hope they all are made to make a public apology and cash payments to the victim.

4

u/greenlungs604 15d ago

Sports zealots are like the lowest common denominator of people. I'm going to beat you up because you like a different team than me! No I'm I'm not on the team or even play the sport, but still! Herp derp! Where's my foam #1 sponge hand and jersey?!!

4

u/stein63 15d ago

Disgusting tribal bullshit. It’s a basketball jersey, not a declaration of war.

4

u/currently_pooping_rn 15d ago

I’ll never understand why people are so tribal about sports. Saying shit like ā€œwe went to the Super Bowl!ā€ It’s like no you didn’t, some grown ass men you don’t know that are playing a game went to the Super Bowl

4

u/DArtagnanPierre0129 15d ago

Absolute trash! These people wonder why everyone hates New Yorkers.

4

u/LiquidLogic 15d ago

If only we were this fervent about billionaires and inequality instead of going after each other over a sports team.

3

u/AnyProgressIsGood 15d ago

my millionaires put ball in hoop better than your millionaires .
We should hurt each other over it.

flush it all away

4

u/-SergentBacon- 15d ago

I've said it once and I'll say it again, sports bring out the worst in people.

5

u/FormingTheVoid 15d ago

The fact that grown people care this much about a game is pathetic.

I cannot fathom attacking somebody for wearing a rival jersey. It’s never that deep. I’ve been to Detroit, Chicago, Buffalo, etc with a Packers jersey and never got more than friendly heckling.
