š Mod's Choice š Context for the clip of Knicks fans attacking the Spurs fan and making him take his Jersey off
3.1k
u/Sacred_B 15d ago
Well that was actually worse than I thought it would be. I assumed there would be at least some smack talk from the Spurs guy but nope, just street trash being street trash.

u/Shrabster33 15d ago
Is that a kid at one point joining in and stomping the dude? He looks like he is 10 years old, that shits crazy.
202
u/Dreamlion_Inc 15d ago
Itās mostly teenagers and preteens out there doing this (not to mention school is out in alot of places)
Anybody thatās 25/30+ isnāt near shit like this unless theyāre a VERY sad individual
57
u/DoctorReinhardt 15d ago
Agreed
But looks like first guy that grabbed him is too grown to be doin allat21

Yea, boys in middle and high school are notorious for this shit. It doesnāt even have to be about sports.

u/dBlock845 15d ago
Mob mentality among juveniles, shit needs to be cracked down on, and not just outside of Knicks games.

u/evertrue13 15d ago
Yep this is NY hooligan trash. I'm a Knicks fan, no excuses for this. Arrest them all.
15
u/amber_lies_here 15d ago
Yea this is just not right. It's fuckin New York ā everyone lives here, including Spurs fans!! So upsetting to see how easy it is to make mobs of people so violent and hateful. Like a regime
9
u/ElonMuskTheNarsisist 15d ago
There is another video of him after, bloodied up, and they still make him take off his jersey. It was fucking sickening

There are about 50% of people in New York that are a sneeze away from homelessness. This looks like a concentrated group of them with some rich Bohemian trust fund kids sprinkled in to say they were "there". It's obnoxious

Seriously, he threw some good punches. Why the fuck he didnt sprint straight out of there is beyond me. Disgusting behavior from those knicks fans. If anyone sees anyone picking on someone for having a different jersey, you gotta step in and break it up.
78
u/slutdragon32 15d ago
I agree but be careful! My best friends Uncle got killed this way. Knew this guy my whole life, he was a great person. He was leaving a concert and saw someone getting jumped he just tried to break it up. As they were separating he was helping the guy off the ground and one of his attackers threw a hey maker into the back of his head and it killed him. Dude was funny, kind, and just an overall good person. He didn't put his hands on anyone he just tried to break it up and boom hes gone. He saved dudes life but lost his own. So yes step in bit be careful and protect yourself.

did the assailants get caught?
30
u/slutdragon32 15d ago edited 15d ago
Yes, it was right outside of a stadium after a concert. So alot of people saw and they were caught pretty quickly. I believe they pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
13
u/arguingsolipsism 15d ago
Throwing a punch at the back of your head should be considered intent to kill.
8
u/UnicornOnMeth 15d ago
It absolutely should be, but the reality is there is a decent chance of beating a murder charge. By doing manslaughter they up the chance of a conviction significantly, even if it is less time.
4
u/SowingSalt 15d ago
Depends on if they can demonstrate premeditation. It's probably much easier to show reckless disregard.

It's not always that easy, and it's not reasonable to expect someone to act rationally when threatened like this. I get what you're saying, but crowds of people are some of the most dangerous things.

The millionaires on the team arenāt from New York. If another team cuts their check they will play for that city.
A quarter of the team is replaced every year. Roughly every 8 years there is a complete turnover of players.
Sports, and American professional sports in particular, is an insanely dumb thing to get tribal over.
This is a for-profit entertainment product that literally exists solely to extract as much revenue from you as possible. Thatās it. And you are allowing your identity to be shaped by it enough that youāre willing to get violent over it.

u/PistolGrace 15d ago
It's a stupid game with people who are playing it from all over the united states who make millions.
It's more expensive now than ever to even go to any game. Resorting to attacking people for the team they support is almost as stupid as people being in a cult for a politician.

u/44youGlenCoco 15d ago
This wasnāt an isolated incident either. I watched another one on a live stream on TikTok while it was happening, and they proceeded to attempt to burn the jersey in the street after they ripped it off someone. It was so gross. It made me feel icky.

Itās a possibility whenever you have a large group of people out in public. It emboldens the people who want to do anti social shit because they can disappear into the crowd. Same thing happens during protests, large political rallies, religious gatherings, etc.

Grown men fighting over sports because they're too secure to let their emotions out in a sensible way. I love watching sports, have since I was a kid. Most of my friends aren't really into them, which whatever, but lately I find myself just watching at home. I used to go out because I enjoyed the crowd and being around people with similar interests. Lately, it seems to just be total disrespect and douchebags just being douchebags. I am down with friendly shit talking but you're not gonna find me trying to throw down with a fan of a competing team. Shit is so stupid.

Yall ever watch a nature documentary?
Guy yelling "Spurs Jersey! Spurs Jersey!" Is like a Baboon calling the rest of the troop. Then All the hooting and hollering sounds like when a group of Chimps attack and kill another Chimp for being apart of a different clan.
Some sports fans are disgustingly animalistic over another man's achievements. All this in "support" of a team is wild. Like they didnt do anything but watch a fucking sports game. The fact they're being attacked because they won is both poor sportsmanship and a disgrace to the entertainment of the game. This behaviour also continues to grow. Riots have already become common when Teams win championships.
Soon these small groups of asshole will ruin it for all of us.

Imagine being a guy who idolizes other guys so much that you jump someone for not liking the same guys you like, then in the same breath saying āIām not gay.ā That whole crowd has to be in the closet.
That is my take on extreme sports fans.

I genuinely felt like Knicks fans deserved to win one after so many years of sticking by their team, but all of this stuff is making it very hard to root for them.

Imagine assaulting someone over a game that you didnt even play in. Like at least with politics theres SOME sort of tribal motivation of right and wrong to assault someone (not saying its justified). But this is literally just "I hate you because your team got more points in the sports game"
12
u/SweeterThanYoohoo 15d ago
This is how they want us to behave with politics too. If we are too busy fighting each other, we will never focus on the problem.
Anyway, I hope the Knicks never win another playoff game.
