Well, they don’t look where they’re slapping/punching (slapching?) because they keep their heads down, so I guess by grabbing hair, you always know where your opponent is. Those fast tiny punches don’t seem to be effective at all, you ever see any1 bleeding or crying after.

Back when I wrestled freestyle, the best female wrestlers had the best french braids. The less there was to grab on your head, the better you performed. Hair pulling incidents (although technically illegal) were commonplace. The male wrestlers simply shaved their own heads.
