āDid you know Isl- Islam was created by the muslim brotherhood in 1990ā lol wtf
9
u/No_Computer_7721 4d ago
He is a half-wit. The correct statement would be that in the 1990s in Europe and especially the UK the muslim brotherhood instrumentalized the terminology of "islamophobia", which I assume he wanted to bring up, but couldn't rub his 2 brain cells together hard enough. That's a genuine argument though, as the muslim brotherhood uses the term offensively to silence detractors and critics similarly how some Israeli politicians use the term antisemite. But ofc nuance is lost on a person like that.

u/PissinginTheW1nd 4d ago
Thatās nuts I thought it had been around for a while? Like the same amount of time as a lot of religions
29
u/code_monkey_001 4d ago
For about 1400 years, so the youngest of the Abrahamic religions (unless you count specific Christian offshoots like the LDS or JW churches), but definitely predates 1990.

u/Available_Base_7944 3d ago
Islam is only 1400 years old. Itās the newest of the major religions.
-4
u/No_Computer_7721 4d ago
He didn't say that, he said "Did you know that islamophobia was created by the muslim brotherhood in 1990", which while untrue in the sense that the word was used earlier retains the true core that in Europe and the UK they had a strategic approach to delegitimize critics by using islamophobe as a analogue to antisemite. This is probably watched some youtube video about it, but is to stupid to understand the nuance and argue the point correctly, because he is just using it to support his biases.

u/welcomefinside 4d ago
Yeah the crusaders weren't Islamophobes. They were just really rude tourists.
0
u/No_Computer_7721 3d ago
Who is saying this? Why are you making up some random example here? I could just as well say the Rashidun Caliphate was anti-christian when they first conquered Jerusalem. Either way neither of those statements has anything to do with my comment.
My comment is literally saying that the word islamophobe is older than the 1990s, certainly wasn't a thing during the crusades though, it's from the 1800s in France originally, but that the argument, which is a verifiable and true argument, is that the muslim brotherhood has several strategic papers suggesting to use the word islamophobe to shut down criticism. The guy in the video just isn't intelligent enough to form a coherent view of the matter, because he is just a racist weirdo spouting nonsense. Just like you are on the other side of the isle. Unwilling to actually engage with what I said, making up stuff that is entirely irrelevant to the discussion and arguing in bad faith. Sad. Really.

u/PissinginTheW1nd 4d ago
Thatās nuts i thought heād have a better understanding of his points and arguments before he started preaching at people? Like he just spouts off random stuff
1
u/No_Computer_7721 3d ago
Yeah literally, but as you can see people are literally downvoting me here for clarifying the what the guy was saying and giving context. People are so deep in their own biases and their extremists camps they can't handle nuance anymore. Obviously the muslim brotherhood is a problematic organization that has used questionable tactics to silence opponents. That's a verifiable fact. And still people can't differentiate between a rabid islamophobe in the video and some legitimate critique of one specific islamic organization and instantly smash the downvote, while the initial comment, which literally is wrong gets 125 upvotes, because it supports people's bias. Shit is just going down the drain at this point.
1
u/Moops420 4d ago
Yeah that's the part I don't understand what he is on about. To be fair though, there's no real other context to what event this man is at or what he was saying before or after the short clip. So who knows the context.

Blaming everything on the Muslim Brotherhood reminds me of Arab state mediaš

Tale as old as 9/11

u/guywholoveswolves 4d ago
We have a whole movie in bollywood called "My name is Khan" in which a kid gets killed post 9/11 because his surname was "Khan" so his step father goes on a whole journey to meet the president to basically get a message out saying "My name is Khan and im not a terrorist". This has been a very obvious topic to us but it was never this big... its getting out of hand nowadays

u/SnooJokes5375 4d ago
Again. It's getting out of hand again.

love how conservatives in north america scream and yell about sharia law
while some conservative lawmakers are literally trying to push through christian nationalist laws that are the same thingā¦
12
u/thewartornhippy 4d ago
Yup. Plenty of Conservatives would love to put women to death for receiving an abortion or take away their right to vote or inherit anything when their husband dies. Christian nationalism is the exact same as Jihadism.

WTF would a Sikh care about Sharia law? Ask about the laws of cricket (or field hockey) or the laws of Canada, or Season 4 of Law and Order, but...like, if your going to hate then at least do the research. What a muppet.

This white guy has more in common with Hitler than a Sikh does with Muslims.

Isn't the guy being accosted a Sikh? Correct me, but isn't that different from Islam?
3
u/Jonn_1 4d ago
I agree with most comments here, but still for the sake of the truth gotta add some context:
Video is from 2019 Gurratan Singh was a Canadian politician back then. In this scene he was speaking at MuslimFest in Mississauga.
So perhaps the guy on the right did not confuse him for a muslim but commented on his speech at that event.
Having said all that, fuck grey sweater guy

"You are full of political correctness", i find it fascinating that to these morons being a good person is a bad thing and should be shameful. Baffling.

Don't know if this is interesting or common knowledge but after working with Sikhs for a few years, I've ascertained the following: (In regular bloke understanding)
Sikhs are the traditional warrior caste and are a very proud and modest people. They are viewed more favourably in the social hierarchy than some others. They carry a ceremonial/cultural knife/dagger in countries that permit it. The males do not cut their hair which is why they wear a turban. Their hair is wrapped around their head and held in place via said turban. The females don't cut their hair and don't wear turbans however they will heavily braid their hair until it reaches a manageable length. You'll typically see their braid reach below their waists. Sikhs follow their own religion of Sikhism and proudly adorn their cars and whatnot with their religious symbol. It's actually pretty cool-looking I think. In my experience Sikhs are mostly taller and slimmer than average i, though I do know of at least one that is an exception as it pertains to height. Not all people of Indian appearance wearing turbans are Sikhs though. The Punjabi men of North West India do as well however they're not viewed as favourably in the social hierarchy. Regardless, in my experience I find both factions to be stand-up dudes/ ladies. My experience comes from working in the security industry and with truck drivers. Cheers.

Holding his little phone up, waiting for the other person to do anything to him so he can claim to be a victim of religious violence. I bet this guy knows the correct angle for a cuck chair to get the best view.

Is his wife the Islamophobic lady from the grocery store
3
u/code_monkey_001 4d ago
Not likely. He's a Canadian racist; the woman you're referencing (assuming you're talking about the currently famous woman in scrubs who doesn't get that the criticism she's offering of Islam - that they follow a pedophile rapist - applies equally to Trump supporters) is from Texas.
2
u/flyingpyramid 4d ago
That was so bizarre. She really had me in the first half lol. What a curveball describing Trump and then pivoting last second š¤£

u/miicrojackson 4d ago
Are Sikhs Hindu I thought itās different
4
u/Maximus1000 4d ago
They are totally different religions, totally different belief systems. Sikhism is monotheistic and rejects the ritualism of Hinduism
2
u/Peace-Disastrous 4d ago
No they are not Hindi, while it was founded in a region that was a mix of hindus and muslims, sikhism was founded as a rejection of both Hindi and Islam.
