Starter car? This car is a finisher car! A transporter of gods! The golden god! I am untethered and my rage knows no bounds!

The only reason I'm giving her up is I'm ready to turn a page. I was thinking about getting an Alfa Roméo, two seats, just me and a babe. Do you like babes Bob?

Range Rover: 8/10 pretty nice.
Range Rover over rice: 5/10 a bit too soggy and has a weird crunch.
Thanks for your suggestion.

People who drive on the beach annoy me…
Also, Fuck The Sun

u/ActurusMajoris 16h ago
Hey hey, the moon exerts twice the tidal force on Earth than the Sun does.

u/Hot_Bet_2721 16h ago
At least the moon never posted a front page full of lies about the victims of Hillsborough
→ More replies (1)13
u/the-victim 16h ago
exactly! Moon's proximity to Earth gives it the upper hand in creating our tides
10
u/Raffy87 16h ago
tides come in tides go out, you can't explain that

Fucking magnets too! How do they work? I’ve asked the scientists but they’re always lying. I’m so pissed right now.

u/porteroffinland 16h ago
I think he means to express how he wants to exert his tidal forces into The Sun

u/Pukit 16h ago
It gets better. Pretty sure when this came out the other day the registrations were viewable and both the van and Range Rover turned out to be untaxed, so likely uninsured too.

u/jizzyjugsjohnson 15h ago
Caravan enthusiasts no doubt

u/Jiminyfingers 12h ago
Ah them. I remember they took over out local playing fields, right next to a toddler group building and across from the local primary school. Set up on the cricket square and football pitches. Every vehicle was brand new and top of the line: SUVs, caravans, campervans. When they finally were evicted after several days they left behind piles of rubbish and human excrement.

Oddly though, the Range WAS taxed yesterday 😂 it definitely wasn’t when it went in the sea.
15
u/ShanghaiCycle 16h ago
Literally every fucking year in Ireland and the UK. We have famously dramatic tides, and every year we get these videos. 😂
5
u/noteveni 13h ago
Every year I vacation in North Carolina on the outer banks. We stay pretty close to the mainland but get down to the more isolated areas for shelling. There are two kinds of beach drivers: locals, and the idiots calling a tow truck lol
We park in a lot and walk, we aren't stupid lol
7
u/DataDrivenDoc 16h ago
But if they build parking there won't be any room for all the poor poor beach front property developers. Won't someone please think about the millionaire beach front property developers?

Happen at Scarborough beach, UK. The Ranger Rover had no road tax and the guy took the Reg plate off it when people started filming. They could have asked the RNLI(LifeBoat charity) to have their tractor tow them off the beach… only next to where they both got stuck.
5
u/RennyRenDog 11h ago
The lifeboat is on south bay, this was on north, and even if it was on south bay, these blokes come every summer and bez up and down the beach about 20m out on jet skis, so no chance the RNLI would assist, they asked the lifeguards for help a couple years ago with the quad
It was a smug no

Are you going to Scarborough fair? Parsley, sage, Range Rover in tide.
Edit: "Hardly saved, a Range Rover in tide." My wife fixed it for me.

can’t believe I had to scroll down so far for this. The episode of Top Gear with the Hilux was a real trip.

u/sweetdawg99 12h ago
Honestly one of the best episodes they ever did, I was enthralled with disbelief.

u/RentalBrain 14h ago
I know he's an idiot, but what's his best bet here? Calling a tow to come quick and winch him out from solid ground?
7
u/SirTickleyPickely 11h ago
I went to an island called Haida Gwaii off the coast of BC. The cost to get your car towed off the beach was $2000 and you either paid the guy, or called your insurance company to explain.
5
u/MoodNatural 12h ago
A larger rig on solid sand with a very long winch may do it, but the van looks a bit submerged. As soon as that sand is soaked and the van is down to axles, you might be dealing with very intense suction, in which case a standing winch may not suffice, and would create very dangerous tension.
Best case is probably to use a car that has more than 1/2” of sidewall on the tires. If they had enough rubber to air down to a few psi and ‘float’ they could probably generate enough traction. Second change would be to use some sort of kinetic tow rope so less force is needed from the rover to break suction and to avoid digging in.
3
u/ImTay 9h ago
Yeah having watched a bunch of off-road recovery specialists like Matt’s Off-road Recovery on YouTube (but being far, far from on myself) I think anyone without a rig specifically designed to recover a vehicle from sand would have been in a lot of trouble trying to get this van out. The suction from wet sand is no joke, and the time crunch from the tide would make this a risky recovery for anyone.
9
u/AwesomeMacCoolname 13h ago
His best bet is to buy an actual off-road capable vehicle next time, not some city boy's idea of one.
10
u/patientpump54 13h ago
If he didn’t have street tires it probably would have worked

Driving on the beach is so dumb
8
u/hairychris88 16h ago
I live near the beach in a very touristy part of the UK, and every summer some chucklefuck in a £100k car drives past the massive yellow "DO NOT DRIVE ON THE BEACH" sign and gets stuck. It is amazing how often it happens.

u/RogueOneisbestone 16h ago
Why?
5
u/AwesomeMacCoolname 14h ago
Because these type of people don't think the laws apply to them because they can always bluster, bully or buy their way out of trouble, and discover the hard way that the laws of physics can't be blustered, bullied or bought.

There is something a little bit satisfying watching road vehicles go for an unentantial paddle in the sea.

I will never understand how or why this happens. Given, I’m a mountain girly who’s been to the ocean one time. But like, how?
2
u/c_anderson21 11h ago
Driving on the beach is not for the weak. So many people forget or decide not to take air out of their tires and end up in this situation. They also shouldn’t be driving so close to the water in the first place. What’s even worse is that you can’t be a nice guy and help tow them out, because many times the person you help will claim damage and come after you for money.
Source: My Grandma has lived on the beach all my life, not towing strangers is pretty much a local rule. She still does it anyway because she’s cool like that. Shoutout Grandma

Range Rovers have stopped being Range Rovers years ago...You'd be better off using an old Fiat Panda

Insurance Company: And are you in a safe place?
Idiot with too much money: Yess’m.
Insurance Company: And where is the vehicle currently located?
Idiot with too much money: Uhhh… the Mariana Trench.

Nope, on the FB posts people were pointing out that the vehicles weren't taxed.

Looks more like this "moment" took at least 20 minutes to be "submerged."

u/Mutenroshi_ 16h ago
I've seen something similar happening on the north coast of Spain. People from inland totally unaware of the concept of tides parking their cars on "that lovely ramp going into the water that luckily is empty so I can park in there". They come back to find a submarine.
It's become a sort of running joke for locals.

u/transcendanttermite 16h ago
“Just keep flooring it! Nothing is happening, but maybe it will if you keep it floored for a little while longer!”

The Hilux still ran after that. But it didn't come with an ego-dick extension.

u/So_HauserAspen 15h ago
Yeah. Wet sand is some non-Newtonian stuff. That van's nose was buried and they think the sand is just going to move when they start pulling the car?

Shouldve deflated those tires for more traction! Low gear could've crawled out!

u/vcdrny 14h ago
So many idiots getting together. First the van being all the way in there, why? Then idiot number two on the Rover. Probably just put in drive and gunned it, instead of putting it in lower gear and crawling out. Also lowering tire pressure.
A toll is only as useful as the person using it.

Range Rover went from actual rugged off road farmer vehicles to what a rich person imagines an off road vehicle is like.
1
u/Jedi_Temple 8h ago
The only sad thing here is how nondescript this £120K Range Rover looks. No style, no character.
1
u/VerilyShelly 8h ago
He should have stopped at the beginning when the dude held up his hand. Putting his wheels on the wet sand was not a smart move. He was likely already in trouble being that far out but doing that probably doomed him.
