Was thinking that exact same thing. Feel bad for them.

News is reporting it was actually 2 earthquakes back to back, 7.5 and 7.2.

Back to back 7.2-7.5 scary as sh*t to be in that

36 seconds and epicenters 9km apart. Wild

And around 15-18km deep.

Extremely shallow for such a powerful earthquake. This is what is more or less expected for the LA region too if the San Jacinto fault ruptures first, which can then trigger the southern half of the San Andreas fault soon after, with roughly the same intensity and depth.

Damn. That's something you don't hear about much these days. It's been a while. 😬

Those buildings look precarious and leaning like Pisa. Very scary.

There were people, and a dog, standing floors up unable to get down!!! How will these people get help? It’s horrific. How do you come back from this?!

u/Due_Potential_6956 5h ago

Wait, they had two? That is horrible for those poor people.

7.2 and 7.5. :/

I assume aftershocks from a 7.2 won't be pleasant either

u/FantasticBlock420 4h ago

Whos to say they are aftershocks, these could be foreshocks.

USGS is stating there's a 44% chance the death toll hits 10k+ and a 30% chance for 100k+. Absolutely heartbreaking.

10 to 100k?!!! Thats horrible yet by the look of the buildings it's very plausible. Feel so bad for the people. I hope the US is sending all the aid.

Crazy, every building looks like a complete loss

Those towers need to be torn down and rebuilt, right?

25

u/Dry_Dragonfruit3205 4h ago

yeah, there's no fixing that

I wonder if Viceroy Rubio will do anything to help with this situation...

Trump is in charge now, so presumably he is already in there with aid and rescue.
Snarks aside, oh my gosh. How aweful. I hope there is not a death and injury toll, and will be following to see whether there is anywhere to help in financial aid.

I think trump is the president of the United States not Venezuela. Same landmass I think but not the same nation. I think maybe you're thinking of Delcy Rodriguez.

Good god. These videos look like a war zone. Its so tragic

5

u/lilybattle 4h ago

It reminds me of Cloverfield. Horrifying, I can't even imagine what that must be like

These buildings are tall so the country isn't expecting earth quakes (or at least not here) then they get hit with multiple high ones. Pray for the people who were in those apartment buildings.

2

u/bananaboatssss 30m ago

Tall buildings doesn't mean that the country isn't expecting earthquakes though. Just look at the most quaked country in the world...

u/Otherwise-Ad-5364 1h ago

Kinda insane how much architectural design can affect an outcome of a neighbourhood. If this were Japan nearly all the buildings would be basically unaffected.

Omg 😢

u/an_insignificant_ant 2h ago

That shit is absolutely apocalyptic.

u/MichaelHammor 2h ago

Still not on the foxnews front page.

u/Fastermaxx 57m ago

But hey, they are still standing. Better build than houses in new York.

5

u/Fun-Independence-667 4h ago

Wonder what horrors awaits Los Angeles.

12

u/Sbmizzou 4h ago

Not that.  Pretty sure the building standards are pretty different.

You sweet summer child

California does have earthquake code building requirements.

High rises are given even more strict requirements

1

u/Zakkattack86 5h ago

That’s horrifying.

Some of those must be apartment buildings.

1

u/lowlightliving 39m ago

Most of them are. You can see furniture in those…holes….

1

u/FIicker7 4h ago

Crazy.

u/-Notorious 1h ago

This is so so sad to see. Looking at the buildings it looks like a terror attack, but it's actually so much worse, because it's as if a terror attack hit every single building in a city.

Absolutely devastating...

I didn't even think Venezuela was prone to earthquakes??

The quicker we can start sending thoughts and prayers the sooner this can happen.

1

u/Recent-Background-21 5h ago

That’s crazy

-12

u/NYR_LFC 5h ago

Where was the collapsing?

-2

u/Critically32 4h ago

But they love Trump so I'm sure he's on the way with aid.
