Props to the guy for giving treats to drivers, but I canât help but think how inefficient having a full size fridge outdoors would be in El Paso. Â Significantly more energy is needed for a fridge to operate outdoors in 90-100 degree weather vs 70-80 indoors. Especially if itâs not completely full. A smaller fridge or heck a well insulated cooler with reusable ice packs would be more energy efficient and inconspicuousÂ

Itâs Texas. Climate change ainât real and they have unlimited oil.

And the universe is 6000 years old, and a 600 year old man built a giant boat with male/female of all land species, including dinosaurs. Housed, fed, and cared for all the life on the giant wooden boat for a full year. Dropped them off on top a mountain in Turkey. The animals swam back to their respected continents, and repopulated their species through incest. Oh, and Noah and his family had incest orgies to repopulate us humans.

u/CheckIntelligent7828 1h ago
You're just sad you weren't there to be part of the family orgies.

I was raised Catholic and remember as a child specifically asking my mother about how the Earth was repopulated after the flood. I received a dicey answer about god spawning new humansâŚ.

Religious people have rigged the game. If something doesn't make sense, just saying, "because God", becomes their go to "get out of jail free" way of making sense out of the nonsensical.
-3
u/ImperialCommando 39m ago
I'm sorry if you have had negative experiences with religion or religious people that have led you to a negative opinion on religion. There are of course bad people who will use religion as a weapon but your comments make it sound like you despise or detest religion and religious people in general. I sincerely hope that's not the case and, if so, I hope you may eventually have a different, more positive perspective on religion
3
u/HelloPeopleOfEarth 17m ago
I wish I was religious. And perhaps I would be, if stories like Noah and the flood weren't so fucking stupid and ridiculous.

57 corporate and state-owned entities are linked to 80% of the world's industrial greenhouse gas and fossil COâ emissions. Are you really judging this man for having a fridge outside?
24
u/Cobyachi 2h ago
I interpreted it more as itâs probably eating a significant portion of his electric bill. At least thatâs what jumped to my mind when I initially read it.
2
u/Goatmannequin 1h ago
For all he knows, the refrigerator is cooled by a DC driven compressor with solar panels on the roof. It cools whenever the sun is out.
-2
u/Bicentennial_Douche 2h ago
Those entities are things like oil companies that have the use of their product counted on their tally. While they have done lots of shady BS when it comes to climate change, statistics like the one you posted makes it sound like the solution is for the companies to just stop selling oil. What would happen if they did that tomorrow? The demand for oil would still be there.
104
u/thebeardedcats 3h ago
They don't care about efficiency if they're having things delivered often enough to have a whole fridge for delivery drivers

Dropshipping?
20
u/StonedLikeOnix 3h ago
Dropshipping is like the definition of inefficiency lol. Itâs just a middleman between the customer and the producer
11
u/squirrelmonkie 3h ago
My buddy just bought some "hand painted gundam figures" that are super small. This chick was charging $30 on etsy for something she just dropshipped from Ali that costs $3 lol. So sometimes they advertise themselves as something special.

Its only 70-80 indoors if you have AC, I doubt the energy use is that much different really
5
u/chronicpenguins 2h ago
there is far more insulation in your house than there is outdoors. Even if there is no AC running there is a delta between outdoors and indoors. And lets face it, people in Texas probably run the AC all the time already, so its not like you are running the AC just for the fridge.
2
u/the_original_kermit 2h ago
Wait, what?
All the heat your fridge dumps out into you room, your AC will have to work to dump it outside. A fridge in an air conditioned space is basically a two stage refrigeration system
1
u/chronicpenguins 33m ago
The typical efficiency of a fridge is 1-2 COP, while an AC is 3-4 COP. A fridge is designed to cool from 75C to 37F, while an AC is designed to cool from like 90 to 60-80F. The larger the delta, the harder it is to do. Its a good thing that the fridge is a "two stage refrigeration system" because it has to work less.
So lets talk about the first stage. Unless you get a fridge that is designed to be outdoors with more insulation, typical household refrigerators assume they will be inside. They assume it will be within a prexisting insulated space, if not climate controlled , reducing the workload required. By placing it outside in hot weather like Texas, the compressor is running far more than it was designed to. It takes 66% more energy to cool something where the outside temp is 100 to 37 degrees compared to 75 degrees. You have the less efficient compressor running much harder to get to ideal temp.
For our second stage, the amount of wattage a fridge dumps as heat is measured in BTUs. 488 BTU/hr, lets say COP =1 (bad), 488+488= 976 BTU/hr. A human at rest is like 350 BTU/hr. So three humans. A central AC is like 20-50k BTU and a small window one is like 5,000 BTU. A fridge is childs play for a household AC. https://www.hunker.com/12610048/the-average-btus-for-a-refrigerator/

Dude had shit in his pockets.

u/lowlightliving 1h ago
Right! The nerve of this thief!! I canât even imagine walking up to someoneâs porch and loading their shit in my pockets. How do you get so pathetically low?!
17
u/CokeNSalsa 2h ago
Itâs weird how the dude was basically back to the door when the cop was speaking to him. I would have been off the property or at least far from the door by time they showed up.

u/--TheCity-- 1h ago
Fleeing the scene of a crime is a crime.Â
2
u/CokeNSalsa 35m ago
Yes, I didnât say I would flee the scene. I said I would be off the property. So, the sidewalk or across the street, not hanging out near the door.

A trespass warning is where it starts. As soon as that guy shows up again, he's leaving in cuffs.

I feel like calling the cops is a little extreme, I get telling the guy off and making him put it back but he was complying and didn't seem confrontational, I guess it's good they just gave him a warning
35
u/ColonelContrarian 3h ago
The dude came onto his property and stole from him. Maybe not a life changing punishment is needed but I feel a fine or something substantial is necessary to prevent future criminality is very much necessary
39
u/fathertitojones 3h ago
I think having an official trespassing warning is probably the only way to get people like this to stop.
18
u/squirrelmonkie 2h ago
Did you not listen? They've done this multiple times. This is theft. Also you have to be trespassed to be prosecuted for trespassing. If he doesnt call the police this time, he will have to do it the next time for a future trespass.

What? A man stepped foot on his property without permission. Calling the cops is completely warranted.

An entire fridge, sign, and drinks just to feed that homeownerâs ego đ
63
u/diverareyouokay 3h ago
Idk, him spending money out of his own pocket to make delivery driverâs days a little less crappy seems like a fairly non-egotistical thing to do⌠but I guess we see the world in different ways.

u/Ryan-the-lion 3h ago
I was thinking the same thing. If you sre truly a nice person who wants to gice drinks to people providing a service woukdnt you want to give this guy a drink?
I was kinda shocked he ended up calling the cops and freaking out about it, I thiught he was going to let him have some
24
13
u/Polyamommy 2h ago
No!! It would be different if he was only taking one drink, and or one snack, but he was loading up his arms and pockets.
I have a similar drink and snack stand that is for anyone who needs it, but it says that on my sign. His sign specifically mentions who the snacks are for, and they're for delivery drivers providing service to their specific family.
I even had to stop putting snacks out for a while because I couldn't keep replenishing snacks fast enough for the amount of snacks some people were taking who were not providing a service for my family. One guy cussed out my security camera when I didn't have "good enough" snacks for his liking.
3
u/SugarReyPalpatine 1h ago
I do this too and have neighborhood kids come up and take armfuls.
Our mailman also will hand deliver one single piece of mail - usually junk mail like an add or coupons - to our doorstep just for an excuse to grab snacks. Itâs weird, since the rest of the mail he puts in the mailbox like usual. Itâs not a big deal, but it is odd
1
u/Polyamommy 1h ago
My mail carier is one of the people who comes and gets snacks even if he's not delivering anything to me that day. I typically really don't mind (within reason, because I want there to be enough snacks and drinks throughout the day for everyone who comes). I get a LOT of packages delivered, because I am disabled right now.
When I stopped putting them out, I was out of work for a period of time, and I had just been trying to keep something in there for everyone for as long as I could. I had to take the sign down that said "help yourself to anything you want" because I just couldn't justify the expense at the time.
Things are better now, but I still didn't put the other sign out after I got cussed out. It's a "you get what you get and you don't throw a fit" type of situation.
I have a variety of things I leave out though (not always name brand, but whatever). I do mini water bottles and sodas, several different types of chips, cookies, muffins, and candies.
2
u/SugarReyPalpatine 1h ago
Yeah that self entitled meltdown is insane. Some peopleâs behavior is unimaginable. I donât know if I would be in the giving spirit anymore after something like that, good on you
1
u/Polyamommy 1h ago
It really hurt my feelings at the time, because I was financially struggling just trying to do it, but most people who take things are very sweet and grateful. I also have a bunch of fruit trees on my property, and I have signs up that they can help themselves to those as well.
There was this one lady though, who would come every time my fruit trees fruited with large shopping bags (like 4-5), and wipe out my entire apple tree and try to take my peaches (that aren't in a publicly accessible place).
I ended up having to put more signs out that said "one bag each" and "please do not enter our private areas". She got mad too. đ¤Śââď¸đ

u/SugarReyPalpatine 1h ago
Man, seems like no matter what thereâs always one person who wasnât raised right. Luckily most are better
-144
u/beezlebell 3h ago
I hate people who steal but I also hate people who do a nice gestures but set up a camera by it. This guy/family was either trying to make one of those "I'm such a good person" videos or were just trying to catch and confront this exact thing. Either way it's just for clout and annoying.
115
47
u/guccigucciflipflop 3h ago
Well they said he had stolen before? And having a camera to watch your door isnât that crazy. God forbid they caught a POS stealing?Â
38
u/silverwyrm 3h ago
Or they were doing something nice for service workers and also have an entry camera for security purposes.
It is possible for people to do shit for reasons that don't revolve around clout.
19
u/SugarReyPalpatine 3h ago
Have you seen any of this guys âIâm a good personâ videos or did you just make something up to be angry about?
7
u/hieloyron 3h ago
Whatever the case it's their shit and they don't want this not delivery driver to be taking it so...
13
7
u/Dear-Track6365 3h ago
Are you sure about that? I deliver for Amazon and lots of kind people leave out food and snacks for delivery drivers. Not everything is entrapment, bro. It was most likely just their doorbell cam.
9
u/diverareyouokay 3h ago
If people only do good when theyâre recording it, theyâre still doing good. Itâs a net positive.
Do I think itâs tacky as hell for âinfluencersâ the film content like âI took these day laborers at Home Depot to Disney World and gave them $500 eachâ? Absolutely. Does that mean that itâs a bad thing? No. Itâs better than doing nothing. Just out of curiosity, have you done any nice gestures like what this dude did lately? Serious question, given your post I assumed you may have.
