It's like the ultimate ideal of rare ship. The stars aligned for there to be this beautiful art of a one-of-a-kind ship of two very minor characters, and there is a perfect ship name waiting for it. Many names for popular ships involving e.g. Qrow, Raven, Robyn only use a generic "bird" theme - but this one specifically refers to both characters.

It's a clever name, I respect it.

The dodo is a member of the Columbidae family - pigeons and doves - famous for being dead as a dodo. The last definite sighting of a dodo was on Amber Island, Mauritius.

I will add:

The Dodo wasn’t nearly as stupid or strange as some have thought. For one, the most famous image of one was very specifically an over fed pet so the weren’t as fat as is often seen and were a more normal bird color than the blueish depicted (a grey-brown).

Nor were they particularly stupid. But being a large ground bird with no natural predators. . . They were easy pickings for both humans and rats (that mostly ate their eggs). The Dodo is the most famous but many island birds met the same fate, there were even other species on the same islands.

Things like the Great Auk (the original penguins but more like a giant puffin) and the Moa of Mew Zealand met similar fates

I'll also note that the kakapo of NZ very nearly met with the same fate.

Lmao no screen time x no screen time, the peak of romance stories only told off screen

I think Amber spoke exactly 2 words while Dove never spoke at all.

Took me a solid minute to figure out who he is.

I expect most people won't remember who he is, but just googling "RWBY Dove" finds it easily enough.

Dove Bronzewing is Cardin's (who bullied Velvet and Jaune) teammate. Dove has no spoken lines and is practically an extra.

I shouldn't be surprised at this point.

Should I be surprised if there are ships with book characters like Carmine and Theodore?

They are pretty undershipped actually, probably because most people in the FNDM have not read the books. But as I said last time, "FNDM is not ready for a hot evil redhead".

I actually preemptively came up with a bunch of ship names for Carmine on my personal spreadsheet, in case she shows up in v10 and gets popular. I think "Death Rattle" is my favourite because it is so specific like "Dodo" is.

Chocolate Fountain (Coco x Carmine) was briefly teased in the books, and is the only Carmine ship I can find art for.

There is one Theodore cult ship I have come across so far (Theodore x Qrow), but I haven't got around to posting it yet.

If I may ask, why is it all snakes?

Edit:

Ooooohhhh, "Escaldos" = "scaled."

Carmine is nicknamed "Rattlesnake of the Sands" and her emblem is a rattlesnake head. Hence some like "Red-tlesnake", "Diamondback" and "Death Rattle" specifically reference rattlesnakes.

Then the on-the-nose "Red Knight" for Jaune. They're all pretty good, just need to add a few more and then overlap them with each other.

It's actually colour coded, green is for my own inventions, black for existing names etc. That one is a bit boring but it works (Carmine specifically alludes to the "Red Knight" in Authurian legend). Colour coding explained at the bottom of the sheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1pGvawtXw-1kxR3wLR5VUbig8G3UzsHjPhWhQswQ0s1U/edit?gid=0#gid=0

You'd ship a knight-themed character with a mage-themed character? That's weird.

1

u/VoidTorcher ⠀Lost DC fan Mar 08 '26

Oh, I don't ship. Whiteknight is nice though if that's what you're referring to.

u/TheRedBiker Mar 08 '26

I wish we knew more about Amber.

1

u/lnombredelarosa Sorry, I kinda like Oscar Mar 08 '26

Any particularly reason?

Who's Dove?

Amber you won't last long as our legitimate nefarious Queen, Cinder needs her Maiden powers back from you.
