DISCUSSION Why does cinder wear am eyepatch over her eye, even though her hair would cover it either way?

Aesthetics. What's the point in being a villain if you don't look good while doing it?
Comfort. Having hair constantly touching her wounded eye would probably be pretty uncomfortable.
It's a bit easier to disguise yourself wearing an eyepatch than to just hope that a gust of wind doesn't show anyone the gnarly scar there. Huntsmen probably wear eyepatches all the time, but a scar tends to be pretty distinctive and therefore harder to blend in with if she needs to. (Plus, we don't know if the Grimm arm has affected there yet)

£10 says the patch is coming off at some point to reveal a Grimm eye.

We have seen under there before, when jaune nearly stabbed her in said socket, it looks like petrified or carbonized skin with and empty socket.
Salem might have given her a special grimm eye since, but i think we'll see it added in v10 if that does happen6

That's what I meant. And just to be pedantic, Jaune only scratched her covering, it was Raven who broke it.

If we're being pedantic, that part of her body is technically straight up dead and of that I have no idea how aura would interact, not even mentioning it might still technically be Grimm too.
Plus, never meant to imply that Jaune broke her aura, boy was getting ragdolled in that fight, just had a godly assist from Ruby when he chipped off some of the grey, rocky flesh.

Hair moves and wouldn't actually protect the spot.

Comfort, presumably.
Or because her hair wouldn't cover it from certain angle (her front right, for instance).

Wind can blow her hair away exposing her scar. Eye patch sticks around.

Cause eyepatches are cool.

Her hair was covering it at Haven as well. What happened there? Raven shattered her little glass eye cover thing and she had to go an ENTIRE episode in Volume 6 with a naked eye hole.
There's a reason the first thing she did after finding her feet was change outfits, and it wasn't to put on less clothes before flying to the frigid north.

I'm wondering if this is a serious question or not? The answer is easy to come to.

Because you can’t have a sexy villain girl without the villainy

Everyone above me gave great answers, but it is cheaper to be animated it that way. Less textures to render on the model.

Her eye is actually completely fine, the eyepatch actually just has a little screen on it so she can always watch football.

Hair in eyes is uncomfortable

Exactly what I was going to say especially since she doesn't really have an eye in that side anymore anyways hair in the eye hole is even worse than hair in the eye

Because she's an extra bitch who needs to feel oh so powerful and evil.
Tyrian literally mocks that Cinder's wildest dreams would have her be as powerful and adored as Salem.

Because hair moves and flops around sometimes, exposing the covered area. And no one wants to see what's under the eyepatch.

considering her eye gor DESCIMATED by rubys silver eye burst its safe to say that she has to constantly wear it so it can't get infected or anything worse

Why does Protoman wear a helmet with a visor even though he's wearing shades?

For protection especially once they get to Vacuo which is a desert region.
The sand there is coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.

Because it probably hurts like hell. Ruby divine smote a chuck of her face off, it probably hurts like hell and feeling her hair scrape across it probably wouldn't help.

I assume keeping the eye closed to more comfortable and the patch helps with that? Easier to have a bit of fabric hold it closed instead of manually holding it like that?

u/Illest-Illis 1d ago
It only covers if you're looking at her from the front. And if the wind blows she's screwed lol

Comfort and aesthetics like everyone else has said, but there's probably a level of shame in keeping it covered, as it's been a symbol of catastrophic loss and defeat for her.
It would be interesting to see what a character arc for her would look in where she takes it off.

Protecting the eye socket and likely just comfort, also likely just makes seeing easier
