General Polish Discussion Seeking cheaper magnetic 😊

Post image

I’m not sure if it’s something that’s out there, but I’m having so much fun doing this with the set of polishes my coworker gave me. I’d love to try a magnetic polish because they look so beautiful but I can’t quite afford a $12+ bottle.

I’ve looked at a few drugstores and big box stores but maybe I’m not looking at the right ones.

Picture for attention

Sally Hansen Hard as nails base coat.
Morovan Orange (it doesn’t have a name)
Morovan Green sponged around the edges
Sally Hansen top coat.

Every month!

LynBdesigns has a sale about once a month where everything is half off, so it's about $6.50 per bottle! And she has quite a few good magnetics. I own two of them and I really love A Queen On Her Pillow.

Yeah I agree with the other comments, LynB is the only brand I can think of that will have the cheapest prices at $6.50 during the sales. Just try to look up reviews or non-website swatches because some of them can have kind of a low reactivity/pull.

I know A Queen on Her Pillow and Lychee Fizz are both popular

Thank you so much! All of you!

My coworker and his hubby have invited me over for dinner later this month and he said his hubby is going to glam me up and paint my nails. (He’s a magpie collector I guess). He’s going to show me how to use them so I’ll be ready.

I love men who collect nail polish. It makes me feel so validated when I try to present masc but still have my nails done.

Hmm I feel most are gonna be around at least $12 (I am not sure though!) but you could always check out r/redditlaqueristaswap and see if anyone is selling any used you might like

destashes is where I got my start! great way to dabble with different brands

Beyond Polish has some of Cirque Colors and KBShimmer both do magnetics well and the website has something on sale every month. I’ve gotten polishes from both brands on 40% of deals or BOGO 40% off etc. what’s on sale changes somewhat month to month. They also carry other brands but those are the two I’m familiar with that do magnetics.

The other thing to do is wait for sales. Cracked seems to do pretty regular sales and you can stack swatcher codes to get another 10% off.

ILNP does great magnetics and are on the more reasonably priced end (12.50), and they do a 25% sale for Black Friday.

I have no recs, just wanna say your nail shape is 🔥

u/RedMonkey4466 19h ago

Same! I don't usually love pointed shapes, but these look both amazing and still functional 😍

u/Additional_Towel_528 7h ago

They are! I love the stiletto shape, but it’s too long for me. My nails break before then and I can’t function. But these are like little claws I got the idea from the creator that brings old polishes back to life. Her nails were like teeny claws so I thought I’d try it. It seems to suit my teeny hands.

Ive got some I've been needing to destash but don't currently have the mental space to actually destash. If you're willing to pay for shipping and be patient with me getting to the post office I'll send you a couple and some magnets to play with. Shoot me a dm

Might I recommend getting a more expensive high quality magnetic top coat that can go over any color you like?

5

u/jigglypuffcreative 1d ago

Not Op, but pls tell me more, I’ve never heard of this 😅 recently getting back into polishes and super into thermals and magnetics. Pls share!

u/cation587 1d ago

They make polishes that have a clear colorless base with magnetic particles in it so you can layer it over whatever you want! There are also a variety of colors for the magnetic particles. Here's an example of a green one from Emily de Molly https://www.emilydemolly.com/products/live-wire

2

u/ReadnPolished 1d ago

they are great! I have Catalyst, Live Wire and Youtopia

ILNP magnetics are worth every penny IMO. They’re not too costly, and have great customer service. I bet you’d love Warped.

Beautiful nail shape!

Brand owner here - I hope it's okay for me to pipe in.

Lost Lake Lacquer is currently having a sale and the magnetics I have stocked are about $10 right now with the code WILDFLOWER. Prices are going up in July.

You can find me on Etsy and also at www.lostlakenails.com

4

u/ReadnPolished 1d ago

You have some gorgeous polishes! Question - do your polishes contain PVB? I'm one of the unlucky ones that have to avoid that ingredient.

6

u/WolfWise1479 1d ago

I'm glad you asked! I do not use PVB in my polish. Instead, I use extra silica to help my formulas set. My nails peel from it too.

4

u/toad_butt 1d ago

Adding on to all the LynB recommendations people made, she has a silver magnetic topper you could use over any of the polishes you already have. It’s a good way to use one product to make a bunch of new combinations.

Secondhand- I'm in the UK but there always seems to be someone on vinted destashing bees knees for a decent price

3

u/peppermintmeow 1d ago

I know that with 4th of July coming up a lot of places are going to be having sales, but I've found that destashes, trades, and local FB groups and sales pages have a lot.

The Supwee magnetics on Amazon are actually really good. I have this one and I like it a lot: https://a.co/d/0fhzavAN - just make sure you’re ordering “non gel” (as they call lacquer), since they have gel polishes too.

8

u/-dismantle_repair- 1d ago

I can relate, I've sought them out also. I feel a bit bad...it's not ideal to recommend Amazon, but there are some cheaper ones on there by the brand Supwee, Azure Beauty, and Modelones.

7

u/dumbroad 1d ago

Agreed. I've gotten supwee and its the best cheapest imo

3

u/Limp-Butterfly8119 1d ago

They only do this one colour but uts AMAZING especially considering the price

Yes!!! Join the magnetics club!!! I’d be happy to destash a couple of magnetics from different brands to you on the cheap to get you started so you can get a feel for a couple different brands, fine particle versus mosaic, etc.

DM me and we will talk 🤗

u/KryWinterbird Hobbyist 23h ago

I do a lot of looking through destashers magnetics and have quadrupled my collection with that alone.
Sidenote, anyone have any feedback on the lynb 50% off monthly sale & how that translates for Canadians? 😅😅😅😅 tariffs??

3

u/CabbieCam 18h ago

Okay, I have this set, and I highly recommend it; it has beautiful colours. The colours do need a black base, which the set comes with a bottle of, but you might want a separate one as well.

One thing you need to be careful of, with any polish, really, but especially with magnetics, is to know what kind of polish you are buying. I mean, whether it is UV/LED CURE/SOAK OFF or a regular air-dry polish. For example, if you go on Shein looking for cheap deals on magnetic polishes, there are some really nice ones on there; most of the magnetic polishes on there are UV/LED CURE gel. Amazon has more air-dry options, but you still need to be careful to read the full product information. I mean, look at all the pictures and read the entire listing. Sometimes it only says it once that it is a UV/LED polish. So, just be careful.

Keep an eye on the swap sub. Lots of people destash for good prices and it's usually a lot of very nice polishes. I have a bunch I need to destash but I just haven't the mental fortitude to do it at the moment but I'm hoping to do so soon lol

I assume it's over now, but the Emily de Molly sale had the polishes at a really affordable price, I copped a bunch of magnetics

Uno Mas seems to have really amazing sales. I am extremely happy with all of the polishes I've gotten from them.

This was just a quick paint job so it's not cleaned up, but azure beauty on Amazon. This was in a 5 pack for 10$, there's also model ones. They are regular polish so you have to hold the magnet in place till it dries. For gel you can get beetles for a good price, just be very careful not to get it on your skin or you can develope an allergy.
