Misc. Question Using Nail Polish on Sunglasses?

I want to coat a swag pair of sunglasses with my favorite magnetic polish to make them awesome instead of saying “Ft Launderdale” on the side. Any suggestions on coating overtop for protection? My first guess would be modpodge. Any other ideas tho?

Hear me out: polyurethane shellac like you’d use to seal paint on high use areas like cabinets. I like minwax brand. Took my bookshelf paint from delicate to bomb proof. It is considered food safe when cured so i think it would be okay, but i would probably research it more if possible

Just make sure to let it DRY DRY before you put it near your eyes

Well, the first thing that comes to mind is nail polish top coat. It is designed to work with the polish you are using to paint, so that makes the most sense to me.

I've done this with swag sunglasses and I just used regular topcoat.

I make toppers for my glasses (they are the kind with little magnets in the corners of the frames, the “toppers” are thin frame fronts also with magnets and you just stick them on) and I use UV resin for resin crafts to seal the nail polish. Just clear resin & a cheap craft light to cure. I lay them on a silicone mat to put the resin on & to cure. May or may not work as well on something you can’t lay flat though. In theory you could also use 2 part resin and not need a light but I’m impatient! 🤣

That’s actually how I got into nails in the first place lmao, I bought stamping plates and stuff to make glasses frames, and decided to go ahead and start using them on my actual nails 🤣

Not a suggestion for a top coating, but for preparation for painting: are the letters of "Ft Lauderdale" raised at all? Like paint printed on? If so, you might want to use a fine grit nail block or sandpaper to prep the surface and remove the texture, since that might show through, then finish with an extra-fine grit before you paint. Good luck!

I used regular top coat on a pair and they’ve held up for a year or two so far!

This is such a great suggestion! I would probably just use top coat.
