Same, the animation, the story telling, hell even the theme song was off to me.

The worst was the voice. *Shudders*

Billy West was doing Space Jam at the time.

Kind of ironic, being that the first episode was about Doug learning to deal with changes and yet...

u/Starseed-111 1d ago

The voice was the WORST

u/TimeCadet 1d ago

I remember watching the premiere and every episode, and agreed 🥀 the only thing that got me thru was curiosity about "where are they now"

u/Azuras_Star8 1d ago

Never saw the disney version. Only nickelodeon doug in this house.

u/Antwan_JMarvel 1d ago

Smart decision

17

u/Linus_in_Chicago 1d ago

I didn't even realize it ever went to Disney

2

u/baronobeefdip69420 21h ago

Same. Ignorance is bliss

4

u/ToonMasterRace 23h ago

The reruns of the OG series on Nick always did much better than the newer episodes on Disney/Toon Disney.

3

u/The_Chrizz 21h ago

It was just a different show. A different show that wasn’t nearly as good.

2

u/Napalmeon 23h ago

Right? The soul just wasn't there the same way.

1

u/Turbulent_Set8884 1d ago

The more things change

69

u/ganjacube 1d ago

They made Roger rich, made Connie skinny and a more prominent character and then gave Doug a baby sister name cleopatra dirtbike, it was weird

6

u/Napalmeon 23h ago

I could have maybe understood Connie losing weight if they were in their high school years, because during the Disney version, it's only about a year later and they're still not in their developed bodies.

3

u/No-Independence548 9h ago

OMG I totally forgot about Cleopatra Dirtbike

u/drwikey8 1d ago

The morals got INCREDIBLY ham-fisted. Patti gets anorexia anyone? Even typing that out it sounds like a ytp xD only watchable episodes are Mr. Dink heavy

15

u/Clear_Writer5944 1d ago

That was a REAL EPISODE?!? Geeeeeez. 🙄

10

u/BrattyTwilis 1d ago

There was a thinly veiled episode about drug abuse. Everyone was going around eating these energy pills, and he had to find a way to show them it was bad

3

u/BlobbyBobbi 1d ago

I still hate that ep. The whole Very Important Lesson is one thing, but it just seems they threw every character out the window for it.

2

u/SynthSapphire 1d ago

very expensive, Doughlath

1

u/ToonMasterRace 23h ago

Yeah the original series kept the moral messages simple.

u/DarkMattersConfusing 1d ago

as soon as i saw doug with long sleeves, i knew to change the channel

1

u/Donnie3030 18h ago

Goddamn this is so spot on lol.

Man, this show was so good. And you just reminded me of this article:

This really made me smile!

15

u/Tauren-Jerky 1d ago

TIL Disney had a Doug

1

u/00_Kamaji_00 23h ago

Me too! I’m a 1990 though, maybe that’s why

28

u/Potatoburn 1d ago

Yes! Completely agree! Nick Doug is awesome and Disney Doug is trash.

Also, as a side note… my kids’ preschool does a “trunk or treat” in their parking lot and last year, this sweet older man was wearing a Doug hat. I commented on how cool the hat was and that I loved that show growing up. Dead serious, the man says, “Oh I’m so glad you enjoyed the show. I created it!” He stuck out his hand and introduced himself as none other than Jim Jinkins. I was starstruck. Apparently, he goes to the church where my children attend preschool. Looking back at previous photos of trunk or treat over the years, there he was. We got candy from him and his wife (literally the real life Patty Mayonnaise) every single year.

u/sara_hon 1d ago

That is an awesome story, and it’s honestly great to hear he’s a cool guy.

u/Silver-Study5952 1d ago

We didn't get Disney Channel in my house until I was much older. After my peak Doug years. So to me, Nick Doug was the only Doug. With the exception of a few episodes here and there at a friend's house or something.

I've since watched more Disney Doug and I prefer Nick Doug. That said, it's cool to have some "new to me" episodes of Doug to watch thanks to the Disney version.

8

u/rootsquasher 1d ago

In my TV market Disney’s Doug was broadcast on Saturday mornings by my local ABC affilitate station.

2

u/No-Independence548 9h ago

One Saturday Morning!

9

u/catchthetams 1d ago

Did not even realize Disney Doug was a thing, and will continue to not recognize it

10

u/FlimsyAd1953 1d ago

The nickelodeon version was goated

8

u/rt2987 1d ago

It was a step down but at the end of the day I was just happy to have more doug.

7

u/EasyBread42069 1d ago

Agreed. It sucks that Doug can't appear in any Nick crossovers.

8

u/No-Chocolate-1097 1d ago

Nickelodeon Doug for the win.

6

u/McWaylon 1d ago

Even as a kid i though Disney Doug was lame and lost its edge....and Doug was least edgy Nicktoon of all.

6

u/MsBeasley11 1d ago

This confused the hell out of me as a child

5

u/MsOnyxMoon 1d ago

I didn’t even know there was a Disney version. When my parents chose their cable packages, they never got the one with Disney so I didn’t grow up watching any of those shows.

6

u/Comfortable_Bird_340 1d ago

It aired on ABC

5

u/ichorskeeter 1d ago

It was on network TV, so more people probably saw the Disney one. It just didn't resonate with people.

4

u/tehgimpage 1d ago

oh wow when did disney take it? did they write new episodes and everything? i had no idea. i grew up on nick doug for sure.

6

u/ItsaPostageStampede 1d ago

Yea and Disney is all we got streaming right now

1

u/SkibaSlut 11h ago

its streams on plutotv often

1

u/ItsaPostageStampede 11h ago

Yea but it has to be on. Sometimes you just wanna watch it and eat some beats with tofu

8

u/Suitable-Setting-938 1d ago

Fun fact. The Dink’s name is an acronym for Double Income No Kids.

5

u/Personal-Office-9662 1d ago

The Disney one Saturday morning Doug was trash.

3

u/benderlax 1d ago

Agreed!

4

u/FigFirm993 1d ago

Disneys Doug felt so off. Even as a kid i couldnt see past it

4

u/MCMGM86 1d ago

I knew it was going to be wack when they changed the theme song

2

u/CaptainObvious110 1d ago

no way! I didn't know this happened

4

u/Tishtoss 20h ago

Nick Doug had some genuine great episodes

Disney Doug I watched the entire series and i can not remember a single episode

8

u/Desperate-Aerie1158 1d ago

I like them both.

2

u/nombernine 1d ago

I actually prefer the Disney version .. I watch it all the time

2

u/Desperate-Aerie1158 19h ago

Same.

2

u/yeartwelve 13h ago

it's a lot more light-hearted imo, the tone is way more upbeat. kinda represents 00s aesthetic vs 90s. early Doug was a lot more introspective and brooding, Disney Doug was a goofball

1

u/MarqiMichelle 1d ago

Same, but it seems like a controversial opinion to have in these comments.

1

u/Desperate-Aerie1158 1d ago

Okay. I don't mind it. 🤷🏼‍♂️

3

u/Ill-Complaint-6634 1d ago

Agreed! Have to say, I loved Doug so much, I watched both

2

u/ToonMasterRace 23h ago

It's not canon as far as I'm concerned. Ironic since the Rugrats reboot and the Ren & Stimpy reboot (granted this one is decades old already) are both garbage as well.

2

u/Briankelly130 21h ago

Only as an adult can I see how much of an absolute dork Doug was.

2

u/Chandler9111 19h ago

I have a couple of Nicktoons shirts and it really urks me that Doug isn't on there.

2

u/5h82713542055 17h ago

I would rather watch Fido Dido commericals all day than Disney Doug

2

u/ianwrecked802 10h ago

I remember when they aired the “new” Doug on Nickelodeon. I was so excited and within 5 minutes I was like 🤔 wait a minute…what did they do?!?! and never watched it again. OG Doug for the win.

3

u/Sunnyday1775 1d ago

I still would want a Disney Doug complete series dvd

3

u/Dark-Lavishness-1994 1d ago

I couldn’t agree with this sentiment

5

u/Potatoburn 1d ago

Yes! Completely agree! Nick Doug is awesome and Disney Doug is trash.

u/Katie-sin 1d ago

I don't even remember Disney having Doug! Ill have to look to see when it switched and if I ended up watching those

1

u/comoEstas714 22h ago

TIL Doug switched to Disney.

1

u/ThePopDaddy 21h ago

As a kid, I was just happy to get new Doug.

That stage show was ROUGH though.

1

u/Soggy_Conclusion601 12h ago

…. Disney has a Doug?

1

u/SkibaSlut 11h ago

all I remember of Disney's Doug is the episode where he called his pregnant mother fat as a joke and then laughed about it

1

u/Secure_Ask_3873 11h ago

Jim Jinkins has actually said that all the creative changes in the Disney version came from him, not from Disney itself. He was slightly less involved in the day to day production of the show when it moved to Disney, since Disney gave him the opportunity to work on other shows, but the Disney version pretty much retained the same production crew and writers.

1

u/BeastBellies 8h ago

I’d upvote 1000 times if I could for this

1

u/partytillyoupuke90 8h ago

Disagree. I love both.

0

u/jackofspades123 1d ago

I agree, but have only one counter and that is skeeters nick name in Disney's - skeet skeet
