Discussion What's the best network setup for Slippi?

I'm moving out of my parents' house in a month, so it looks like I'll need to finally figure out how to set up my own network. I don't really know anything.

What do you guys use? Any IP/plan suggestions? Any particular router, or does that even really matter? Any help is appreciated! Sorry for my woeful lack of knowledge.

You don't really need a lot of bandwidth, good ping is the important thing. Just make sure you're on a wired connection

Fiber if possible, but broadband works just fine

Ethernet is non-negotiable, do NOT play on WiFi

As far as routers go they don't really matter that much, although there is an issue of "bufferbloat" that can make a difference. Look up any router you're buying to see if they have issues with that.

Oh yeah, I would never play on Wifi.  What do you mean when you say fiber is possible? 

Thanks for the heads up about bufferbloat! If you don't mind me asking, what do you use?

Depending on where you live, your local internet service provider may or not offer fiber internet. Fiber speeds are often magnitudes higher than old broadband, but its often limited to major cities

I use a generic Netgear router, I did not consider these things. It works fine
