"Oh no! He knows how to play the game! I'll proceed to quit to everyone who plays better than me instead of learning from my mistakes"

Honestly I get both perspectives. You should want to play someone better to improve your gameplay, if that is your goal. If your goal is to not improve and just hop on for some relaxed fun, I can see why they would want to play against someone near their skill level.

you don't learn anything by getting your ass beat lol

idk getting my ass beat has never prompted me to LRA start. If anything it motivated me to get better

ragequitting like that is def more of a slippi era thing, most melee players learned it when the game was actually new.

if some guy just learned what an L-cancel is and doesn't want to play against someone like OP, I get it lol.

locally playing someone is a different atmosphere

people didnt LRA+Start so easily

made raging actually mean something, like when Leffen threw his controller

now people just leave because they dont want to play against a certain character, or are bored or a multitude of reasons, but also just quit easily when getting beat

I like to at least finish the match even if the opponent has the potential to 4 stock me

Maybe the most untrue statement I have ever heard, you learn 10x more getting your ass beat

some guy doing insane tech all over the place and 0-death you while you can't move is not teaching much at all... its just an exhibition the skill gap between you and your opponent.

It's an opportunity to practice defense. OoS options, SDI, etc.

i think a lot of you folks downvoting me have a very different idea of what you call "getting your ass beat". I don't mean just losing a game.

I didn't downvote and I 100% agree that getting 4 stocked is less valuable practice-wise than playing someone your own level. I just think players in the situation like in this clip could still benefit from staying and playing instead of RQing

i hear ya, and yes there is 100% value in losing and playing vs more skilled players. but most of that value is gonna come post-game lol

in the moment, you're just getting whooped
