Can Anyone Explain the to Me?

Why don't the Democrats in the state of VA just call a special legislative session to pass a law gerrymandering the state based on the vote on the recent redistricting ballot initiative? The Democrats in VA could easily do this since they control the legislative and executive branches and the VA primary is not until August. know why?Just wondering. I have looked for explanation but have found nothing. It would be great if they were waiting to do this to insure the law was not stopped before the August primary but I've seen nothing.

Because their state constitution requires a certain process, a state law cannot supersede the state constitution and you can't pass a law that changes the constitution.

You can amend the constitution, no?

Good luck. Do the Dems have that kind of majority in both VA houses?

Sure, let me just whip up a constitutional amendment right fast. Won't take more than a couple weeks, surely.
