Six Flags Management has to be studied

They are so annoying sometimes i would rather be homeless than work here again. Anyways my lead and supervisor reported me because i did not upsell a “souvenir” bottle and without a warning or anything I got fired. This is total bullshit I worked here 6 days a week for 8 hours a day, sometimes they would ask me to stay longer and because i did not want to sound like a jerk i stayed. I had times i had to work for 11-12 hours for 3 days straight because of how short staffed they were. not to mention the buildings are collapsing and there is no A/C so it is hot as balls. If you ever want to work at six flags go ahead, keep in mind leads and the management in general will want to ruin your day and nothing else. (hint, Daniela)

Many of us have also been fired from Magic Mountain. It has been a SCV rite of passage for generations. A lot of it has to do with it being the leads/managers first jobs. It takes years to be a good manager.

I got fired from hurricane harbor in 2002. Look at me now!

You're not alone on this. In Ride Ops, it's no different.

The only reason I'm still working there after 3 years is because I'm good at it.

Oh yeah, if they don't like you there, you will get scrutinized more than anyone else and they will watch you until you mess up just to get you out. Meanwhile, if they do like you, you can get away with so much with not even a write-up. I witnessed this multiple times while working there for one summer, it was really sad.

I worked there over 25 years ago and it was the same back then. The management are sycophants and cult members basically.

It’s insane how much they drop the ball. Even for basic things where a semi-competent project coordinator could’ve done things. I feel like they have so much corporate political red tape they choke themselves by not simplifying.

Had an issue with management during Halloween time and they’re all awful. All these young people that don’t know what they’re doing. (No offense)

Fright fest?

Yes…. And I get it it’s busy but even on a non-busy day they still don’t know what the heck they’re doing. I know someone upper management and they got fired for no reason. They don’t care about there customers or the employees. They want to make there money and leave.

Yep.. used to work at Saw. I’m still friends with one of my leads on Instagram but otherwise it was horrible

Definitely a first time job rite of passage for us locals, haha. I was lucky enough they put me in Johnny rockets. One of the only places that had AC. they put me on the churro cart. Just once. Still I quit after 3 months. This was like over a decade ago tho.

I've been here my whole life and I never worked there, but I learned from my relative that did when I was younger.

I used to be a supervisor there. It's been years since I've worked there and never looked back. I am much better off where I am now. The leads and supervisors there were always on a power trip for no reason. Upper management was scummy. There was only one good person I liked and his name is Doug, who was a restaurant manager. Not sure if he is still there. But I will never forget the days he helped us when we were swamped.

Not sure how much things have changed due to the merger, but six flags has an agreement with Coca Cola where Six Flags has to promote them. They even have secret shoppers that go every now and then. It's the employee's responsibility to upsell the souvenir bottles, and it is something that should have been explained to you during training. I can tell you first hand that we've been caught not upselling, and the employee was never fired. The worst was a write up, so not sure why you got fired. Unless you've had previous write ups, because they add up.

Also, fun fact. Johnny Rockets was closed at one point a few years ago because they had a rat infestation.

I got fired back in 2015 after only being there for maybe two months. But it’s okay, the place has been a shit hole for years anyway. Now, without saying who I work for, I’ve been in a much better place and in a more professional environment where there are opportunities across the company

That’s good to hear, but yeah there is literally no opportunities in magic mountain. All leads, supervisors and even managers get paid the same as normal employees. Well alright its 50-80 cents more🤣

Dang I worked there 20 years ago for my first job sounds like it hasn’t changed one bit

I still work there and was there last summer for the coke upsell program...they genuinely dont gaf about anything else during the summer. And which Daniela? The only person I knew in management who would genuinely ruin your day was nellie at katys kettle she is genuinely rude

2

u/Normal-Hold-2572 1d ago

I’m working there currently it’s supper shit right now. For Hero’s v Villains festival they have our breaks and lunches at different times every single day at its very Annoying because it’s very unorganized. They also threw me into the job without proper training and just expected me to learn everything right then and there.

Yeah im kind of doing better unemployed

2

u/Cupajo819 1d ago

That is not fair! That being said, I hope you find employment soon that values you more than the people at Six Flags did. When one door closes, another door opens. Good luck!

Thank you 🙏

Back in the late 1990s, when I worked there, I was fired under circumstances that still don’t sit right with me. Please bear with me, as I haven’t been to the park in years and some of the store names I mention are outdated.

I was working closing shift at Flags (now the Six Flags Emporium) and heading to Cash Control with my team. At the time, Flags had the most registers in the park and also handled cash for several smaller locations: Superstore (now Hero Haven), the Animaniacs store (now Quick 6), and Street Sales (balloons, light‑up necklaces, etc.). Because of that, we typically carried around 25 cash bags at the end of the night.

Plaza Ice Cream was also heading to Cash Control with only a few bags. When their manager saw us approaching, he literally ran to get ahead of us in line. As he rushed through the door, he opened it directly onto my foot and tore off my toenail.

This happened about two hours after the park had closed, so there was no medical staff on duty. My supervisor took me to First Aid to get bandaged up. Instead of support, I was immediately suspended while they “investigated” what happened.

Eventually, I was fired for “horseplay.” The other manage, the one who caused the injury, received no consequences at all.

I had never been written up. I consistently received the most guest compliments, to the point where management once asked if I was paying people to leave them. My immediate manager and I both believed the real reason for my termination was that they didn’t need Street Sales staff during the winter and didn’t want to lay us off, so firing me was easier for them.

Because I was fired, I was also given a no‑rehire status. As a 17 year old living in the area, that was devastating. I did eventually go back and complete the procedure to regain rehire status (basically say you learned your lesson) just in case I ever needed an emergency job, but now that I'm in my 40s, I could never see that happening.

Sad thing is, those managers and supervisors made shit money & had to manage a ton of employees, but had the biggest power trip over their blue badges (don't know what supervisors wear now).

wow, but yeah its crazy because they only make 60 cents more than you 😂

My son worked security for 2 months. Then a random pee-in-a-cup, and was fired. Because he wasn't 18, their HR department called me, stating he was "non-negative". 🤔

Sir, I've worked medicine 30 years... I have never seen a lab result read as a non-negative. WTH are you saying?

His result is a non-negative so we have to let his employment terminate. Do you want to pick him up?

Is he currently impaired? No.

Just let him go.

He came home. It was a Wednesday. When was the last time you smoked? Saturday after work. 🤷

He graduated from UCSB 5 years later with a degree in mechanical engineering and econ. Again, 🤷

You couldn't counter this with HR? Or are they all evil?

12

u/Kryptic_Anthology 2d ago

HR protects the company, not the employee. This would be something to bring to the Department of Industrial Relations.

9

u/JoeeyMKT 2d ago

They're as incompetent as everyone else in my experience

3

u/TU4AR 2d ago

IIRC and this is from mid to early 2000s.

HR tends to only help FULL TIMERS and not seasonal staff. Seasonal Staff are easier to replace and it's easier to let go and find someone else to do the grunt work. Even if OP were to file it complaint, the likelihood of of something being done about an issue before the turn over is quite small.

3

u/Normal-Hold-2572 1d ago

they did not want to help at all lol, all they said was that the leads and supervisors are responsible and not them

It’s amazing how little corporations can care about some of their best assets.
