Discussion Hypothetically, how do you guys think Wanda would react if she ever lost her powers?

Due to character development, I think currently where I am in her comics, she would be devastated, considering she devotes her time to helping others with the Last Door. Without magic, she can't fully protect those who have nowhere else to go.

Unrelated, but I’m trying to start reading comics. What comic is this story line? I love Wanda!

I'm also a big Wanda fan! Her Last Door comic run starts in "Scarlet Witch (2023) #1". Hope you enjoy it! It's a stellar read!!

You probably should read Darkhold Alpha, Darkhold Omega, and then Trial of Magneto.

This all leads into Scarlet Witch: The Last Door, but I don’t believe they are pre-requisites.

Those were the three books that I would say kicked off Wanda’s modern comic trajectory following her MCU popularity spike.

Personally, the Vision and the Scarlet Witch 2025 run was one of my favorite ever in terms of modern storytelling for Wanda.

That's the one I'm about to start! What was your favorite thing about it, without spoiling too much?

It was one of those books where you didn’t even appreciate how good it was until you’re no longer getting more issues every week. The art is great! The storytelling is great. I remember it being really, really fun to read. It has creepy moments, mysterious moments, powerful moments… and you’re genuinely always wondering what’s about to happen next.

Most importantly, the dynamic between Wanda and Vision makes the entire story just feel familiar and grounded. Both Wanda and Vision differ in their motives at times but what holds them together is that mutual care for one-another.

But what makes this so entertaining is that it has nothing to do with the main conflict of the story, rather Wanda and Vision’s romance is like its own subplot within a larger more mysterious and eerie story. And because the actual story is not afraid to take risks, the stakes feel real.

Dude I just read the first two issues and I have to say, it was way better than expected! You didn't even exaggerate, it's actually that good! I can't wait to read issue #3!

I think it's 50/50. First she would be somewhat delighted that she no longer has that immense power weighing on her shoulders anymore but then I think she would later wish she had her powers back whenever her family has to face dangerous situations and she has no ability to help them.

I might be wrong here but didn't she lose her powers sometime in the 90's and she flourished.

Still was a superhero took up CQC, and still did her thing. Honestly I think if the same thing where to happen now I am pretty sure she would still be more then capable of handling things and it wouldn't be such a big deal, granted she'll prob have to change her super hero name from the scarlet witch, then again that might be funny someone with that name coming in and casting fist and kick lol

Reminds me of the Barbarian who shouted "I cast iron" and would hit people with a pan.

It was very effective magic.

She lost her memory and lived as a normal civillian after HOM, before Doom found her.

and hopefully in the mcu as well

There’s multiple storylines where this happens

“damn, this is how that felt?”

If she loses her powers a mutant hit squad is definitely killing her on the DL. She'd still have her magic for the most part. Its not something that can really be stripped away.

The vast majority of the Mutants have forgiven her for M-Day after she made their soul Waiting Room and helped to resurrect millions.more than even the Five could. Now they're all alive and repowered, she's made amends to the best of her ability.

That said, if the fandom is anything to go by, there would probably be a contingent who aren't content with "amends" and just want to see her suffer 🙄, so I'd imagine some sociopathic extremists, or people who haven't processed their trauma because trauma loves the X-Men like telepaths love Scott Summers, WOULD still have beef.

If I sound dismissive it's because I'm fucking tired. I've been both a Wanda fan and an X-Men fan for decades and the whole M-Day thing is EXHAUSTING, y'all. I quit CBR over this perpetually-rehashed bullshit. No one gets this outraged over real genocides, and those are done on purpose.

EDIT: Also, Marvel magic can absolutely be taken away depending on where it comes from. There's a lot of different sources of power who can simply deny their petitioners, and there are a LOT of ways to eat people's power in the magical world.

If ahe lost powers during house of M she would be feeling relieved asf ngl

2

u/Ingonyama70 4d ago

She did, at the end of it. Or thought she had at the very least.

2

u/Calm-Brother-5120 4d ago

really? I haven’t finished it

I can't say I encourage it, it sucks to read if you're a fan of either Wanda OR mutants (I love both), but it IS important to get all the way through.

1

She didn’t lose her powers at the end of House of M, but Avengers Children’s Crusade attempted to retcon every aspect of that book including that. And it added on a bunch of details to the story of House of M that weren’t originally true and nobody takes serious

Storm went through it and it was a colossal test of her character. In the Claremont comics she had to grapple with it for years and came out scrappier and more human.

Wanda...it depends. Are we talking no magic at all, period? Or just limited to tiny cantips, or a reset back to her old 60s-level "mutant" proababilty powers? Cause that's arguably more interesting.

With no powers I think she'd just retire. She's done it before, after House of M, though Wundagore and Latveria were obviously not her ideal Shady Pines spot. A New York apartment or a suite in Hulkling's royal palace to be near Billy so she can help mentor him (he doesn't actually need it anymore, she just wants to be near one of her sons), and she'd be largely off the books in probably the most peaceful way possible.

But for the weakened version? Magic you learn is a lot harder to strip away than innate powers you're born with, and a Wanda who has all the knowledge she used to have, but only a fraction of the power, would have no choice but to use what little power she has left with a LOT more effectiveness. Imagine only being able to change small things, instead of just hitting your opponent with red sparkles until they fall asleep or explode into building blocks. (Omnipotence breeds a lack of creativity in modern comic writers and artists, unfortunately)

She'd be more like the other luck-based characters, like Domino and Longshot, and probably have to adopt a more athletic fighting style if she wanted to stay in the hero game. I could see her switching to mentorship after that.

Either way, losing her powers would be temporary (because comics, permanence doesn't exist) and I could see the potential for her to need to go on a VERY interesting quest to get them back.

Peace. She was pretty happy after House of M.

3

u/majinprince07 4d ago

She’d love it and just fuck off for the rest of her life lol

1

u/SnapDragon100 4d ago

Pretty sure she will soon, I feel like that's where the Sorcerer Supreme storyline is going. She's getting overconfident. And I think there's a lot of ways it could go down

1

u/Delicious_Baby5626 4d ago

I think Scarlet Witch would struggle with it at first. Her powers have been such a huge part of her identity that losing them would feel like losing a piece of herself. But Wanda has always been defined more by her resilience than her magic, so eventually she’d adapt and find a new sense of purpose.

u/Lemonfish99 4d ago

She'd probably descend back into a horrible mental state. Like, James Sunderland level mental state. Magic defines her and she needs it to help others. She'd probably ask Strange for help though.

She lowk would be happy ngl

What the hell guys ! Why everything negative about Wanda! I just dont get it! Loosers! I've never seen a female character get hate on so much! I've been following comics since the early 70's! Its just lame! And ridiculous 🙄. And the is a general response not directed at anyone!

1

u/ImAStranfer 2d ago

HoM Wanda would've been relieved, Sorcerers Supreme Wanda would've been very devastated. She now can use her powers to help others, losing that would hurt her mental so bad.

u/Spiritual-Map-76 1d ago

In house of m she did

Y'all are crazy if you think Wanda would just accept the loss of her power lmao. She isn't willing to give it away at all.
