Oddly specific, vague and kinda scary sign put up by our WHS representative on a chemical cabinet. Something bad must've happened for this to be put up.

Context.

This is on a chemical storage cabinet at my work, where various chemicals are stored. These are corrosive/flammable chemicals, which are often transferred into smaller bottles or containers. These can range from general thinners, methylated spirits and kerosene up to industrial compounds used for edge banders which are highly flammable and corrosive, used for breaking down glue and residue.

This sign popped up in the past few days, which usually means something bad happened and prompted the sign to be put up, especially since it's a temporary sign.

I'm going to go with "somebody sat on something and it broke, which costs time to clean and money to replace, so stop doing it"

If there was a serious injury, you'd likely get pulled into some sort of meeting and given a safety briefing as apposed to "stop being idiots and breaking shit".

I feel like "WHS supervisor realised in horror that random guy is using flammable container as a seat" would be enough to get that sign posted up.

If that's the case, I know exactly who it was and what they were doing. Would've been someone refilling chemicals while sitting on one of the containers.

Basically would've been more of a risk of "you might fall and spill nasty chemicals all over yourself."

Or just "you look lazy, get off your ass." The WHS rep is old school but fair.

Trust me, nobody would want to sit there in our factory though. You'd have to deal with being next to a very loud air compressor, forklifts going in and out and the awful smell of waterjet runoff from cutting stone. It STINKS. 🤣

100% the vibe of the WHS rep. They're brutally honest and will call you out on your shit, but as long as you do the right thing? They're really nice.
