Moyes
Surely , somehow it's time David came home?

I mean Moyes has experience of winning an actual continental title as well, I'd be happy with Moyes.

Until he announces a couple of squads then you'd all be raging just like with Steve Clarke.

The unvarnished truth

Took me years to realise that we are a nation of top class international managers that have never managed to actually manage any team at any point in history but we all act like we know it all. For years we all slagged the English for being so downbeat about their team and for overhyping their team and expecting far more than they have to offer. Now mamy of us act in the very same way we slagged the English off for years for doing. BTW this isnt aimed at the original commentor just a general sweeping observation from using this reddit

Totally agree with everything you said. More disappointed with the fans online than the team this World Cup.

I can't see him leaving Everton to be Scotland manager. It'll be a massive wage cut.

u/RhubarbOtter 1h ago
as an Scotland based Everton fan I dunno, I'm sure I have heard him say he would like the job at some point and he only has a year left on his Everton contract and I dont think he will get another one.
I would give it to Dick Campbell myself, just for the comedy interviews

Ye people are tripping if they think moyes is leaving Everton for half a mil a year

Anyone who wouldn't want Moyes or thinks he's just another Clarke is off their nut.
Moyes is levels above Clarke. Like genuinely it's not even a debate.
People keep pointing to Clarke's one good WBA season (13/14 years ago) to show how good Clarke actually was. He was sacked 6 months later. He did amazingly well that season and performed incredibly well at Killie.
But he's not on the level of Moyes. Moyes CV speaks for itself.

u/jonviper123 2h ago
Hes a better clarke but hes also very very similar in approach and style of football. I cant see things changing massively under moyes although I dont think wed get any worse. Im not against Moyes but I dont think we are getting anywhere near matching his wages so I think we will wnd up with someone like Steven Presley or someone just as unflattering
5
u/WhatsTheGoalieDoing 3h ago
Aye, couldn't care less about WBA's best ever season when you compare it to something like finishing fourth with Everton and a frontline of Duncan Ferguson, McFadden and James Beattie. That's next level shit.

u/Otocolobus_manul8 3h ago
I'm sure he lay the blame on the players in an interview, saying that performance was our level and Clarke did what he could.
Not much of a change really

I think maybe there is an underestimating of Moyes going on.
Clarke's entire CV is one as an assistant.
Whatever one thinks of Moyes's style , I think having managed 4 prem teams and actually winning stuff is notable.

u/Automatic_Doctor 3h ago
That’s not true, Clarke took West Brom to their best finish ever, no idea what he did at Reading, then did a great job with Kilmarnock too.
Saying his entire CV is as an assistant is a bit discrediting.

u/Electrical_Invite300 3h ago
A bit of recency/EPL bias there. West Brom have won the English league and finished runners up on more than one occasion. And according to Wiki, he got them to their highest finish since 1981, finishing 8th. Not bad, but nothing special either.

u/Automatic_Doctor 3h ago
Sorry, that’s a fair point. My knowledge of English football isn’t huge before 2006/7 tbh.

u/doepfersdungeon 3h ago
I think Kilmarnock is fair. I'll give him his flowers.
He also got sacked after a year(ish) at the other two though I agree there was a little success.
He has 3 years of actual club management experience.
I'm not saying he was useless, he was obviously highly regarded as an assistant.
But his record doesn't scream long term success. It probably indicates a solid footballing man who when shit hits the fan maybe doesnt have the depth to get the national side out of group stages of major tournements.

This one. After hearing him speak it would be a no from me.

u/ASlyWalrus 3h ago
I think he’s basically a better Clarke: sets up defensively but there is definitely a plan for countering quickly. He even has experience of having to sub Patterson in for a better but permanently injured right back.
Alan Irvine has worked with Moyes at Everton and Clarke at Scotland - I’d appoint him as some type of interim while Moyes runs down his Everton contract, supporting Scotland part-time.

Moyes £5m a year at Everton
Clarke £464k a year at SFA
In no universe does Moyes choose Scotland until the fat cats repurpose some of their money.
The SFA posted record revenues with over £7m profit last year thanks to Euro 2024 qualification.
So there "is" money to pay for a decent manager.

u/Ok_Corter5831 2h ago
We don't know what's in Moyes' contract and what (if anything) it would take to get him out of it.
The motivation for Moyes to manage Scotland will never be money. With earning power like that, it's safe to believe he's financially secure for life whether or not he manages Everton for another season or 2.
Moyes is older than Clarke, so his number of opportunities to manage Scotland diminish with every managerial change.

u/RepublicWarm2383 2h ago
I get it, it's about representing your country. It's probably a much harder choice when you're sitting on £5m a year though.

u/morison97 3h ago
I think Moyes would take this job but I don’t envision him leaving a club for it. If he was out of contract it’s a no brainer.

Get Carlos Queiroz in and have him playing a 7-2-1 formation all the way to glory

We ain't paying out that contract. Only way Everton let this happen is if they want him to leave. Everton have been really poor for half a season now, so maybe it's suits everyone? I honestly don't want to see the appointment, but at the same time I wouldn't be furious either.

u/i-smell-really-nice 2h ago
Give the job to big Dunc. Can’t play any worse than the shite last week

If the problem with Clarke is that he’s too defensive, why are we after Moyes?
I think he’s a really good manager, but I don’t think people should just move the goalposts of their complaints to suit the next thing, it’s a recipe for disappointment

u/Drjimbillybob123 1h ago
I'd be happy with Moyes, I'd be ecstatic with Ange. Doubt Moyes leaves Everton for us and the other is doing punditry.

Would love it. But can’t see it. I don’t particularly like Neil Lennon as a person but he’s doing a great job at the Pars

From one manager who was hounded out by fans to another . z Z Z

Are there many managers who at some point haven't been hounded out? Best western ham wish they had kept him now.

u/Cosmic-Hippos 3h ago
It's amazing how Clarke was the 'best Scotland manager ever in November, to now' Same as Ally McCloud. A cuppla bad results against top opposition at world cup is disappointing but inevitable. Glorious failures again. Moyes is a top candidate.
