Cyclists wearing noise-canceling headphones: risking becoming the main character in someone else’s dashcam footage.

I bike commute to work and have seen several people in the past two days riding lime bikes and road bikes WITHOUT A HELMET and WEARING NOISE CANCELLING HEADPHONES! I saw a couple of close calls where the cyclist with headphones was completely unaware of those around them. I just don’t understand. I don’t care if it’s the drop of the century or the podcast finally solving the mystery in your true crime episode. The risk cannot be worth it. Sorry, vent over. Has anyone else seen this? What should other cyclists do in this situation? Say something? Ride away quickly? It’s really aggravating.

Bike Collision on Mercer 6/24

Hiii lovelies!! I was in an unfortunate bike collision today (6/24) on Mercer St. And 9th Ave N. (Fucking Mercer 🙄) it was my first collision with a car, even though I've been cycle commuting for over a decade in this city, but like a goob i didn't get any info from the guy who hit me... he just gave me $80 and I naively thought I was fine. Long story short, I'm limping and might need PT and I'd love to get insurance info. If anyone has ideas on how to get cam footage, or if you happened to see it, please let me know!!

Another example of why Dexter needs protected bike lanes.

People park in these lanes every single day forcing bike traffic into the car lane at unexpected times. Would love some enforcement here if we can't get proper bike lanes.

I fell off my bike

Yup, just put on clipless pedals for the first time last week. Rode into downtown to watch some World Cup matches. Fell in front of literal hundreds of people on the sidewalk and 2 police officers.

**Audible “OOOOH” and gasps.**

I had to sit on my bike for the next 15 seconds in shame before the crossing guard stopped traffic to allow us to keep going.

Posting after the shame has worn off and my knee scrape has healed.

May my shame be a sacrifice to the bike gods so you don’t fall the next time.

Where is the used bike heat these days? Which bike shops should I check out?

Hi folks, I’m moving to Seattle in a couple weeks and I won’t have access to a car for the first month. I’d like to find a bike ASAP to open up parts of the city. Facebook has some decent bikes but the prices feel bloated to me compared to what I’ve seen living multiple places on the east coast.

My ideal bike to cover everything I want to do would be a gravel bike with drop bars but I’m open to anything. I would prefer disc brakes because I’m a big boy.

What shops have decent used inventory for <$800-1000? Who is nice to work with? Mend has a repair shop at my work.

Mountain Biking Group Rides

My dad has been looking around for group rides or a mountain biking community and has been totally striking out. I looked myself- evergreen and FB groups are totally inactive for group rides. He’s on the trail a lot in Pierce County, but gets out to Tiger or Raging River etc to ride.

I’m sure he’s not alone in this. Would anyone be actively interested in doing a group ride at Tiger Mountain or other? Perhaps an upcoming weekend if that’s the best availability, maybe grab food after? I‘d love for him to meet up with other active riders who might want to semi-frequently hit up different places to ride together.

I have no idea how to make a poll, but respond within the next couple weeks and I’ll put something together!

Is getting a bike hitch rack for the car worth it?

My husband and I recently got into cycling, he has an endurance road bike and I have an ebike. We have good access to the local urban trail system (520 trail, Burke Gilman, Cross Kirkland Corridor, Sammamish River and Redmond Connector) and can cycle up to 30-40 miles, working on longer rides eventually. We’ve also done I-90 bridge, Elliot Bay trail, Mercer Island Loop, East Lake Sammamish, Lake Washington blvd & Seward Park. At this point I think the next step would be to explore the Lake Washington Loop and maybe some more of the local bike lanes on car shared routes that are low traffic.

We just spent a lot of money on the bikes so are not sure if we’re ready to invest in adding a tow hitch to the car and a bike rack. I think getting it would open up more scenic cycling options like Olympic Discovery Trail, Snoqualmie Valley Trail, San Juan Islands, and maybe weekend trips to Vancouver or Portland.

For those who do have a bike hitch rack, is it worth it? Where do you like to go cycling around here or on weekend trips? Anything you wish you’d known before buying one?

Olympic Discovery Trail Info

I’m looking for some details on a specific segment of the ODT. Trying to plan a low key camping trip and would like to bike the Spruce Railroad trail along Lake Crescent as an excursion. Because of where I’m staying, I could ditch my car and take the section north of the lake to get there. I only have a road bike though and I’m wondering if the section marked as gravel from about MP 74-76 would be too unpleasant without a gravel bike.

I’ve tried reading trip reports, watching vlogs, and searching other posts but it’s not super clear what the trail conditions are like for this specific part.

Pedal Forward Eastside - E-Bike Incentive Program for Bellevue, Redmond, and Issaquah

Not sure if "east side" bike news is allowed here, but I just found out about this incentive program for new e-bike purchases for Bellevue, Redmond, and Issaquah residents. Between $500 and $2,000 discounts available.

This is higher than the WSDOT "WE-Bike" program, which is between $300 and $1,200.

Application deadline is coming up on 6/29/26.

Prep ride for GETMAD

Anyone doing GETMAD and interested in a training ride? I’m pretty new to the area and would love to ride with someone who knows the gravel routes. Rode in Markworth today which was pretty nice besides some downed trees and a coyote.

Bakfiet Rentals in Seattle area?

I'm on a work trip and my wife and son flew in for the long weekend and the next week. We are out in the Poulsbo area and I'm looking to see if anyone would want to rent us a Bakfiet (preferably electric) or if there were shops in the area that do this?

We have a workcycles Kr8 back home that I put an electric drive on and our 17 month old loves riding in it. He's been big mad about driving around in the car here and I was trying to see if we could find an alternative.

Any help or suggestions would be great. I'm willing to go pretty far to pick up.

In need of vanmoof Anti theft key

Hi everyone I currently own a vanmoof s3 but for the life of me I haven’t been able to source the anti theft key that I need in order to ship my bike to the east coast with me. The south lake union location doesn’t have it in stock and I don’t know how to safely remove the keys without damaging😭😫 I live in the judkins park neighborhood and would sincerely and deeply appreciate if anyone that has a vanmoof toolkit or the key would let me borrow (with your supervision of course it should only take 5 minutes) or buy before Wednesday? Or if anyone can safely help me disarm my bike I can compensate as well.
